"Finding Self Worth at 8 Years Sober" True Stories of Addiction
Matter cracks open the door to his psyche and his addictions at the beginning of his story. It doesn’t take long to realize that Matter isn’t just cracking open his story for us. Instead, he was opening the door to his emotional recovery all the way.
In the beginning, Matter explains he didn't even think he had a drug addiction. He denied his drug addiction, even after spending a year in jail after his fourth felony related to drugs. What Matter did recognize is that he grew up in a home where he felt unwanted and unloved. He knew his alcoholic and drug-addicted mom left when he was four years old. His mom left with his siblings but left him behind.
In fact, Matter shares that the pain from this time was so intense that in 2016, he started trauma therapy. Matter was exposed to so much trauma growing up that he doesn't remember a time when he was at peace with himself or his life. Matter did realize, however, that somewhere along the way, he found himself on a destructive path. That is, he had no money, no friends, and no job. If that wasn’t enough, he was shooting up with leftover meth, as well.
Overall, Matter felt he had no love or hope. He confesses that he always felt he wasn't good enough. For that reason, he played to the narrative in his head that he wasn't worthy of love. He's learning how to deal with the trauma in his life, being a victim of domestic violence. Consequently, the only thing that helped him recover was finding validation in himself.

This guy looks and sounds so much better... he's humbled down and looks like he's gone so much higher than he initially was in the old video... much love, and happy holidays!
The amount of will and mental power it takes to remain sober for 8 years is immense. Such a strong soul he is.
When one start thinking he is not good enough, then he starts misbehaving. Never look down on yourselves, that's number thing I learnt here
This is a reflection of my life... whoever this guy is.. thank you.

On being centered: "Where is the center of our world? Does everything we do revolve around someone else's or our own problems/addictions? We choose where to place the center of our world. If we choose a center outside ourselves, we can't act for our own well-being. When we are centered in our deep, inner spiritual core, all our actions enhance our well-being. Being centered does not mean being self-centered, ruled by our ego's whims, desires, fears, and distorted views. To be self-centered covers up self-hatred. Being centered reveals true self-love. When we are centered we are focused on our Higher Power and our highest spiritual self. We are mindful of our true nature, and don't allow our decisions to be determined by others or by our egos." -Veronica Ray Mantra for being centered: My world is centered on my highest spiritual self. I am whole; I am complete. Thank you for sharing your story; it took immense strength and bravery.
This story of addiction is an eye-opener for drug addicts that they can still live a meaningful life after their addiction. Indeed, it is high time they abandoned this terrible habit of theirs.

Finding self worth is something most if not all of of us go through. The only factor that is different is how we go about it, For him it was drugs etc, It is flat out wrong but at times as the saying goes we need to fall so that we can get back up!!!!This is why life has value because some people to through so much to have it.
I saw his old video and he wasn't looking that good. Now, he is obviously looking better and very articulate. I understand his journey has been a turbulent one but. glad he is beating the addiction and staying clean. What a story

Good job bro ! I remember you doing meetings at the Salvation Army Arc with your sponsor. I remember your sponsor was a heavy set guy very cool person. This was back in 2012. I’ll be celebrating 9 years in December, I still meet with my sponsor and still do meetings. Have a good day sir.

Learning about our traumas and how to respond to situations in a healthy way... YES!!! This is where it's AT!! This spoke to me. I hope he's doing well
Bringing drug addiction experience here into a public view to enumerate causes as well as consequences that binds this dreadful acts should be well appreciated, parents should use this to keep alert and aware of various means and criteria their children can fall victim and prevent it effectively . Thanks for the heads up
Matter's story of drug addiction is touching. However, he has taken a bold step to desist from such unwholesome and unhealthy habit. Big thanks go to Detox for rehabilitating many lives.

I need some help in finding a good free long-term (6 months to a year +) inpatient/residential rehab. Going out of state is not a problem. If I had to choose any state they would be Pennsylvania, California, Florida, Texas or Ohio, but I am open to other places as well. I'd prefer this rehab to have people who actually want to be there; People who actually want to stay off drugs and better their lives as opposed to a rehab that has mostly court ordered patients. I know finding good FREE long-term inpatient rehabs is a hard task but there are some out there. There's one here in NC that helps you find employment (you work in order to live there), helps you get a car, apartment etc.. But I have just a few issues with this rehab. 1: Most of the people in this rehab are court ordered to be there. It's either they go to this rehab or they go to prison. I'm sorry but I do not want to be around people like that. From what I've heard, this place is almost like a prison camp. I am doing this voluntarily and I was thinking this place would have more like minded people. 2: The location of this rehab facility is very close to the slums and a lot of people end up relapsing there. A very dangerous area in Durham NC. 3: (This is the #1 reason I decided against going.) For the first eight months there you can not have any contact with the opposite sex. They keep the males and females separated. Other than those 3 negatives that rehab seems to be almost perfect and has everything I am looking for. If anyone has an input or ideas of places I would be interested in please leave a comment below. Thanks.

Chernobyl Reactor 4 There is a Rehab in Roanoke, VA, close to Salem, called Mount Regis. I went there this past summer and it was amazing. The Faculty nurses and people in general were really great. They take you out for NA,AA meetings as well as activities/movies etc. They detox you for the first 7 to 10 days medically. Your days there will be filled with learning about yourself, about addiction, meditation, and overall how to overcome your addiction. Just giving my opinion, don’t let the thought of other people at a facility holding you back from getting your own sanity and health back. At the end of the day it’s about you and you should always do you. It took me a while to figure that out but once you focus on yourself it doesn’t matter who is around or what’s going on. I had insurance when I went to Mount Regis however I think I heard them say they also have charity programs that assist people without insurance. It’s really worth taking a look at. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. I hope you find a place soon and good luck to you, best wishes - Rich
