Finding Seashells in Rock Pools | Huge Humpback Cowrie [Virtual Shelling]

Ойын-сауық

I wasn't finding my at the usual beach, so I decided to go to a less popular one on the weekend. I still didn't find much until a series of fortuitous rock pools - some lovely shells were hidden there. But the best shell was saved almost for last - it was worth the long trek over rugged rocks to find it!!
Let me know which ones were your favourites ;D and if you enjoyed this and want to see more shell finding videos, I'd appreciate a like or a comment. I read all of them and try to reply when I can. You have no idea how much of a smile you guys put on my face. Thanks everyone!

I didn't even realise that Point Cartwright and the surrounding beaches had such lovely seashells until I saw "Shellcade Shelling Down Under" - I admire him a lot, and wow, it seems like he's creating new shelling content on KZread? You can check out his amazing videos here:

G'day Maria 👋🏻🐚 Oh my goodness, you found the Humpback Cowrie episode after maybe seeing it in my shell cabinet video?? Ahhh, I specifically didn't link this one because I do cringe a little at my reaction when I look back at it 😂 Dont mind me, just screaming at shells at the beach... Someone probably thought I was drowning!! Ahh thank you so much though, this was a wonderful day for me. Thank you for watching it 🥰

How exciting for you to find that huge humpback cowrie!!! 🐳 It’s so fun when you find a bucket list shell! G'day Pam 👋🏻💖 Hehehe yesss, so exciting 🤩 it was an absolute rush to pull that one out from between the rocks 😍 it was definitely a bucket list shell for me. I did find out that there are local colonies of this Cowrie dotted around the coast, but having the shell wash ashore is pretty rare. I was super stoked with this find! The tide pools were also great, like you said, and somehow were filled with un-touched goodies 🐚🐚🐚 Thank you so much for joining me once again on an exciting adventure 🥰 honestly, the beaches have been pretty slow with shell finds over the last week, so it was really nice to get such a big win with this one. Thanks Pam 💖

Hey Maddie, I have more to add to my different seashells list for you. 129 and counting. WOW! The Humpback Cowrie was awesome to find in Australia. I think you bought one for your collection too. But to actually find one. I really love the one I have I bought from my Florida friend. You did very well today. Cannot wait for the weekend videos. My favorite is the Humpback Cowrie of course. AWESOME! Take care and thank you for another great video. Love and hugs, Trudy

G'day Trudy 👋🏻💖💖 Wow, 129, is that really right??! That seems like way too many, but I guess I didn't realize how spoiled I was for variety 😃 So, the Humpback Cowries are common in Hawaii, but there are some colonies of them here. They live on the reef, or nearby rocky areas with higher oxygen levels, apparently. It's just that it's super rare for any of their shells to wash ashore because they are so heavy, and the rocks would usually stop them from getting to the beaches or rock pools, I believe? Super happy with this rate find of mine, in any case 🤩 Oh yes, I did buy one (much smaller and not that nice) and I was also given one (extremely beautiful, one of my favourite shells in my collection) neither are anywhere near as big as this monster one!! I'm so pleased that you liked this terrific shell find today, and it's also really amazing that you have an awesome one for your collection as well 🐚! The weekend videos should be interesting, I think 😉 Thank you for always joining me on my adventures 🥰 lots of love and prayers back to you and Bob.

Ahhhh, it’s good to know that I’m not the only one to get shaky from an epic shell find: this is only the second time that’s happened to me 😅 such a precious occasion like you said. Which of your shell finds got you guys weak at the knees, so to speak? Also, have you guys ever thought about shelling in Hawaii, they have a lot of similar shells to what I can find in Australia? Thank you for watching this epic adventure; I’m so pleased that it’s motivated you for another great day of shelling! @@SandCoffeeRocks We actually got married in a Hawaii and have been there a few times, but back then we weren't shellers, so now we can't wait to go back and it'll add a major new dimension to that trip and we're excited about it. The shell finds that made us weak in the knees? For me(Chris), I'd say it's been my 2 large Atlantic Deer Cowrie finds, my Angular Triton find, my very large red and orange Lion's Paws. For my wife, it was her recent Queen Conch, her first Caribbean Vase, and just yesterday she found an amazing giant Atlantic Murex in a tide pool. The moments in the future we're both anxiously waiting for that will probably cause us to need a fresh pair of underwear will be a Junonia, a large Queen Conch, a large red True Tulip, and Reticulated Cowrie Helmet. What are your top 3 that you haven't found yet that will take your breath away? :)

Oh my gosh!! It will be so different for you when you go back, I think you will be over the moon with all of the amazing shells there. It’s so strange to think of our lives before shelling, like; how did I not know about this wonderful past time? Chris, I love your Atlantic Deer Cowries, they are amazing! They were stunning finds, I wish you had started your video filming when you encountered them. I did love the Triton and Lion’s Paws too, so vivid and spectacular 💖 Kandie’s Atlantic Murex was a wonderful find, like nature left it for her to pluck from the poool (saw the clip on Instagram). Oh gosh, she’s found some lovely Caribbean Vase shells, and the Queen Conchs are always lovely. Hmmm, for some reason, I thought you guys had already found a Reticulated Cowrie Helmet; I saw it in episode 1 of yours, or was that a buy? Good luck on getting your Junonia, that would be the “shell of a lifetime” as they say 😉 Oh gosh, my 3? First and foremost, I would lose it if I actually found a Nautilus; I’d love a mostly whole one! They’re pretty rare to see washed ashore. Also, if I ever went to Western Australia, I’d love a Zoila Cowrie, wow, any kind would make me flip out. Finally, hmm, maybe a deep water shell like a Volva volva or a Latiaxis mawae? I think I’d need the mother of all storms to bring something like that up though! Wish me luck 🤣

G'day Aussie Dirt Digger 👋🏻🪙 Thank you, it was a bucket list find for me 🤩 I found out since filming this video that there are colonies of Humpbacks around some sections of reefs and rocky zones (high oxygen areas are needed for these cowries??) Sorry, I don't feel like being humble at all right now 🤣 It was such a hot day (the low-intensity heatwave was still in effect), and the shells were few and far between, but golly gosh, they were some amazing finds!!! For that ear-like moon snail; my shell book has a section for ear shells (abalones mostly) and a section for moon snails. This ear-like moon snail is in the moon snail section, so I'll call it a moon snail until I surely know otherwise! I don't know if it's the same species as the Baby's Ears that you find in the states, but it must be something close. Thank you for watching another adventure, and for your beautiful comments.
