This was helpful. Especially the comparison to other hay feeders and talking about goat behavior. Thank you.

Thank you for this video! I used the “science” to diy a little feeding system for my buckling. It’s temporary cause he’s young and growing- but your ideas really work to prevent wasted hay! Blessings!

I always have issues when they pull their heads OUT of the feeder and drop 1/2 a mouthful. THANK YOU for the explanation!! I have a setup kinda similar, but the suggestions you made make sense with their behavior. Goats are so bougie

Love this design, and can't wait to see how you adapt it for outside use, as I don't have a barn yet and could use something like this.

My thing is my goats have horns. I’m afraid they will get their horns stuck in the fence

So what do you suggest for goats with horns? If the opening for their head is big enough so they don't get stuck they can get out of the pen I to the feeder.

My goats have smaller heads than body. Raising it (so they have to step up and dip their heads down) should also help prevent them from jumping in.

Maybe just go with vertical bars rather than cattle mesh panels for horned goats. Or at an angle as he mentioned. The horizontal cross bars are the main issue goats would get head stuck.

Yes, this feeder is not designed for goats with horns. Thank you for pointing that out.

You can still use fence line feeders (like this and others) with horned goats, just have a horizontal bar, wire or lumber about 8" above (for Boer goats), also the sloped timbers Shane mentioned but 2 x 1's. I have both and they work fine.
