This has to be the best guide I have seen that goes into depth how to win this race. I had no idea that the race wasn't RNG based as it was based on when you opened the chest. No wonder when I practised the correct path and tried to be fast as possible it only took me maybe something like 30 minutes. I personally get use to the controls and practise the correct route to get 5 of them and do it as fast as possible.

@@FuzzfingerGaming I guess I'm just too used to gaming besides all I really did was watch someone else do this and follow the same route. Did it as fast as I can and had to get used to the controls and route and repeated this until I got it right. Before this guide I would of recommend watching someone else on KZread do this race and do the same thing as I explained in my last sentence what I did.

You tips on holding the analogue sticks worked perfectly, was finally able to do this! I remember following all your guides to get the XII plat as well, keep up the amazing work! I now have to battle with the catcher chocobo trophy, the worst of them all. This is the only trophy that is giving me trouble, I feel it may make or break my platinum

Your livestream inspired me to go back for the platinum even though I had just finished the Switch version. I dusted off a PS4 save file from 2016 and didn’t realize how close I had gotten. Thanks, this has been really useful, especially the part about how the race is definitely lost if the wrong opponent spawns because you hit the second chest too late. One thing I noticed on my attempts though (on the Steam version, using a D-pad) is that, when the camera angle shifts, the game tends not to notice a direction change unless a different button is pressed or you take your thumb off and replace it. This meant that, for the fourth chest, my chocobo would only keep running in the same direction if I *continued* holding up while the chest was being opened, rather than holding right.

Sir, I just got the trophy! My mind is blown. This trophy made me give up on my dream of the FFX Platinum. Because I thought, I had to be exceptionally good + lucky (my RNG luck is usually shit). @FuzzfingerGaming I finally got it and the platinum. Though I had to move from the PS5 back to PS4. I abused the analog sticks so I got it within 5 tries. Which is funny cause I could only get the 0:0:0 trophy on the PS5 cause the D pad was more newer. Anyways thanks again 😁😁

Thank you very much for this guide. At least it helped me understanding what I was doing wrong: namely being too slow on the first and second chest, and also not precise enough after the fifth chest. Oi Fuzz well done for the first of the 2 tough Chocobo Trials👍🏻. And Off Stream! Better🤪. When I finally got this Trophy once, I discovered that u can never outrun the other Choco!! No matter how fast u check the chests and no matter if u dont touch a Pole! After many tries I got all 5 chests in the fastest Line possible and ai never saw the other Choco in the background catch up in me!! What a relief!

My god, even having this guide i spend nearly 2-3 hours to learn my finger muscles and their memory to each pixel direction in this crappy mini game, but finally i got it! Now next step needed is the 0:0:0 minigame in the fields.

I'm honestly surprised no one has created a keyboard shortcut mapping similar to jump rope game in FF9 for this and the other Chocobo race. Unless they have and I've just never seen it. Anyway, nice guide... I'll have to save this for future playthrough.

Unfortunatly on PC getting 5 chests seems to be impossible as the chocobo race time is fixed to 34 seconds instead of 39.

Nah it's the same time on PC, if you do well and are just a couple of milliseconds fast enough, the other birb slows down to make it possible for you to win and a perfect race takes 39 seconds. If you open a chest and already see the other one running in the background you most likely already messed up because you were too slow

Bro... thats a pro Guide. where did you get this information from. big respect. i noticed he got diffrent times.... but how did you notice this :) But still after doing all right that damn friking Controlls are the worst.. i realy like the Game, (one of my favourite 5) but the Camera changes and the Steering are the worst i have conquered in my 35 years of Gaming :D thats for sure haha

Okay, I managed to get the trophy, but I didn't want the trophy, I wanted the rewards, but I bumped two poles in the end. I found a thread where somebody mentioned a different route for the last chest. I was previously running up the first ramp and then running all the way to the chest, but there's a second ramp, and idk if it actually is faster, but going up that second ramp instead of the first enabled me to win while the first I failed with for hours. So, I do have the win, and the trophy, but not the items. Part of me wants to give up, call the trophy a win and walk away, but it feels like a fake victory.

This was my last trophy I needed for this for the platinum. It took me about 2 hour a night for. Week to get it.

Pure cancer in the list of top 3 worst minigames in FFX: 1) Chocobo balloons, 2) Chocobo temple race, 3) Blitzball. With 0.001%, 0.04% and 0.33% balance and fair chance respectively. Which is a shame since chocobos are awesome and cute. Very helpful guide, thank you.

ahhhh I did it after you said it's 6.7 and then 13.0 seconds for the first two chests, first attempt I got it but was too slow for the end and got stuck behind the chocobo, but I got it just in time the second attempt ofc im not counting the like two dozen other attempts before watching this video lol

I have no idea why i can't seem to do this 😭😭 I'm consistently getting the first 2 chests at 6.7 and 13 seconds and spawning the slower chocobo but it is always ahead of me for the last chest by a fraction of a second whilst my chocobo is doing the jump animation which feels like it is mega slow. Been trying to do this for weeks 😔

I have no idea if i'm delusional this might be nothing but i did this - an hour roughly trying and failing, I had not actually completed the race once below 5 chests. I completed it 4 chests and won the race, my next 3 attempts in a row after I beat the chocobo ( 2 more to confirm ). i'm probably imaging things but the chocobo felt easier to control like better handling. good look to anyone doing this anyway screw this side quest

I've platinum FF 7 (remake as well) FF 8 and FF 9. X I just had Chocobo Race and 200 lighting dodge (which I managed to do today ( less than an hour apart) and this Requiem Race. I've tried at least 20 times and each time the other Chocobo arrives by the time I open the second chest and that's when it decides to hull ass. I can open the fifth chest no problem but still losses

Pretty easy. I was just making the mistake of taking first right turn after 4th chest instead of second turn. Made final jump with good margin.

Just tried this for an hour, finally did it, then realized you only get the cloudy mirror on first win :(

So the 3 main problems I have identified with this minigame is that the animation for opening the chests is really long, especially the last one. The second issue is at the end. If you could actually pass by the opponent while going down the final ramp before the finish line, you could win if you wrre a bit late, but you cant cause the ramp is too small to do that and you cant budge the opponent whatsoever. The final issue is that the game only lets you move in 8 directions relative to the camera. All 3 bt themselves shouldnt be that diffuclt to overcome, but together makes this minigame almost impossible to complete. I have at least several thousand hours logged into the game combined from since when I first played the game. So i just beat it on my like 20th or 30th attempt. Those who are new or replaying for their 2nd or 3rd time will take many more tries. Its frustrating, and admittedly bad design. Still though, wouldnt be an acheivment without being difficult. Platinuming this game was, in a word, really grindy.

Ffx was one of the most garbage games for a completionist. Outdated and bad controls shouldn't determine a trophy.
