Whoever made this mini game is pure evil

I don't know why anyone is trying to get balloons. The goal is to hit birds. That has to be the way to win. I can't get hit by less that 5 birds. The ones from behind is great! I get one everytime in the last camera switch. 24 bird hits is my most. All 24 were in the last 10 feet of the race. I only had 15 balloons. I put my controller down and got a coffee before the birds were done stunning me. This mini game is the best!!!!!!!

I saw your video last night and did exactly what you said. Took me about 40 minutes to finish the side quest and the RNG allowed me to get all 5 balloons going down the hill. Also had a good connection on the last leg and only had 1 bird attack. Did many practices just trying to move the control pad for the balloons so that was a big help.

Haven’t done this in YEARS until my replay through this recently. And let me tell you this is the best advice because this is how I got it done. Took me about 12x to get the RNG to line up. The beginning balloons are key but technically not a necessity if you are a good navigator. Don’t jam on your key pad when going for balloons. Just tap. Jam only in emergency’s from birds.. try to take direct routes. Finishing time matters just as much as balloons and not hitting birds. My time was 35.6 and 12 balloons no birds

I tried the catcher chocobo thing for more than an hour but still failed. But then suddenly all birds magically ignored/evaded me as if they couldnt detect my presence and many balloons just lined up for me to pick up. That round I had 14 balloons and 0 bird hit, 33.5s, ended up a result of -8.5s. I believe that skill is a must but RNG luck is still a bigger factor

14 balloons with 0 hits is amazing! The best run I've ever gotten without getting hit by a bird is 12! And I totally agree with the RNG thing. There's a bit of skill in dodging the birds that are "dodgeable", but you also have to get lucky that none of them either home into you, or spawn right in front of you. Not to mention the balloon placements as well!

@@mimikyuc2886 after over 10 years of playing this, I still don't have an answer for that lol but thankfully it's the only minigame that relies heavily on RNG. The rest are pretty much skill based, and/or their RNG element can be manipulated

My best was 16/0 ... Irony was - I didn't even play my own game. Was at my younger brother's house during some holidays and we both were nigh wasted)) As for tips - I've been doing pretty much the same thing as the creator of this video throughout the years, with one addition - I usually tend to stay a bit to the side of the direction that leads to the balloon. I only try to hit the balloon at the last moment, cos' birds usually aim for the areas where many balloons are, but they still hunt the riders in this areas. Therefore by redirecting at the last moment you're able to hit the balloon and avoid the bird at the same time [most of the time at least]

tip you should get the 5th chest before the 34 secs mark if you get it before 34 secs then you win.

Stay at the edge is not a good advice because you need space to avoid the birds. You can run S to avoid 2 birds but it takes practice. The most easy way to avoid a bird is to just keep holding the direction button (left or right). You can't really do that too close to the edge.

I tried and tried and tried the catcher and couldn't do it. Got bored half asleep and just wanted something for my hands to do and got it first try.

Fuckkķ yessssssss! Got it the perfect run of 14 ballons and ZERO birds while watching this video!!!!

I've only got the catcher race once, and it took me about 2-3 hours. It takes a lot of patience because half of it is luck. If you fail, you just remember its partly luck of the stupid bird not going left when you hit left like 5 times, and time put in will make you better at the path. Its luck, patience, and time guys! I always came close after taking a break.

Why hasn’t square enix made a way to make this easier in the remaster absolutely ridiculous!

Just as a little aside for the chocobo race at remiem, I believe your start determines the pace of the other chocobo. I hold the analog stick east northeast and i get the 39.5 second chocobo every time

that balloon mini game scarred me like i had a perfect run got 12 balloons no birds hit me just for me to finish at like 37 seconds all because the chocobo got “stuck”😐😐😐

I bought the remastered version when I got my ps5 about a year ago and hadn't gotten to play ffx until about a week ago I'm in this stage I just need the sun sigil to power up tidus sword but oh my God i had forgotten how frustrating this was almost broke my controller just now lol I'm getting more and more petty with the game, now everything I have a failed run I just let the chocobo get hit by as many birds as possible to teach him a lesson 😈😈😈

I really hope this is an exaggeration, but I feel you. This race was so annoying back in the day for me and there is a kind of finess to dodging the birds, even though it is mostly luck based. Just keep trying maybe 1 hour a day, and then you'll eventually get it!

I've been playing this game for like 15 years and not once have I been able to clear this 😭

6 full on hours it took me

Been doing this for hours. After an hour, my best time turned out to be 0:0.5 seconds, another hour has passed and I have beaten that record, it is now 0:0.4 seconds….. this mini game is cruel. Edit: after 11 hours of attempting this nonstop, I finally did it. 13 balloons and 0 birds. I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night until i took care of that challenge.

last time i got 0 sec catcher got 0 sec as well and i found that kinda cool :D

Took a while but finally completed it :') 15 balloons and only one hit, that came cause I got too greedy for the balloons lol

The controls are ass on my Switch and I can’t get the chocobo to head straight…

I have the exact same times to the chests as you do in this video during the temple race and that damned other bird is so much faster than the one you’re racing haha. Can’t come close to 4 let alone 5

they say the birds add 3 seconds to the timer but if you count in the delay they cause its more like 5 seconds. bare that in mind :)

Do you use D-pad or Stick? I've heard D-pad is the way to go but sometimes I feel I hit baloons better with a stick.

I always use the D-pad for the Catcher Chocobo race. The only adjustments you're supposed to make are left and right anyway. But I use the stick for the Remiem temple race cuz you have more control over your chocobo then

Just got 0:0.0 and didn't get the sigil. I just read that you have to be under 0:0.0, I guess the devs lied about how to beat the race. It literally does not say you have to be under 0:0.0 anywhere in the game.

It doesn't say anywhere anything about the ult weapons... That info came from strategy guides released with the game. It's been well known that scoring exactly 0 doesn't get you the sigil for years... Dunno why you're blaming the devs...

I don't understand for the temple race. On the switch atleast the other chocobo is much faster finishing the race at around the 33 seconds mark.

Did you say for the temple race, you have to win first go to get the cloudy mirror? Does that mean reloading your save every time you lose?

For each bird hit, how many extra balloons do you need? Like you mentioned no hits needs 12 balloons, and for each bird hit how many more balloons do you need?

Each bird hit adds 3 seconds to your final time, while each balloon deducts 3 seconds. So theoretically for each bird hit you need to take a balloon to make up for it, but you also have to take into account that each hit will stun you for a bit which adds to your total time. So to be sort of safe, maybe 2 balloons to make up for 1 hit? I also mentioned you needed 12 balloons without any hits (deducts 36s) cuz I'm under the assumption that you can finish the race in under 36s anyway. But if you get hit enough times, you might end up with a higher raw time which would require more balloons.

I don’t understand how Japanese people love these mini-games with shit controls. They really seem to like that on any game. Even in the yakuza series, some of the mini-games controls are horrible. I mean, as for the karaoke, you have to finish it on hard, pressing so many buttons so fast, it’s just insane. On the darts mini-game it’s the worst, joystick was too sensitive and made it awful to be able to aim perfectly. These types of things make you hate these mini-games while it should be fun and relaxing, not a source of stress as it is.

Between this and the lightning lightning game ill just finish the gamebwithout titus and lulu's celestial weapons.

It's sections like these, that makes me hate the whole game and never finish it. No respect for player's time at all. Something like this would never fly in modern games.

Try tightening your corner turns! Unfortunately, I do not own a switch so I have to take your word for the controls. The Remiem temple race has some RNG in that the other chocobo will run faster for some reason! There's only one run where the other chocobo should be finishing after 39 seconds. That's the only window you have in beating him. Just follow the path I laid out and practice getting a low 39.X. The run will come! Just keep at it!

@@UG_Commentary its not rng, i try to tighten the corner but i lose time tryna straighten back up bc if locks into one direction if i turn right a little itll be in that direction until i release the dpad/stick and reset the chocobo the chocobo is always hqlfway in my view by the time i get to the chest i hit the chests at the exact time in all the guides and i still lose

@@mikl12354 i feel you. it sucks when the chocobo locks to the edge cuz of the change in camera position. That was a huge problem for the ps3 and ps4, i can't imagine how much harder it is for the switch cuz of the tiny stick (Use the stick by the way, never use the DPAD for the remiem temple race). But there really is some RNG involved. The CPU Chocobo will randomly be faster in some attempts than others. You just have to practice being consistent so when the good run does come, you can capitalize on it. Also, im pretty sure there is no trophy or achievement of any sort on the switch so this minigame is completely optional. And the 30x Wings to Discovery you get for completing this is hardly useful anyway.

I've completed catcher twice in my lifetime but the Remien race exactly 0 times. Catcher is infinitely more easy.

absoltely impossivel mini game. the chocobbo always does what he wants and ALWAYS run into the birds. theres no way to win

Yes you can do that, but there's an achievement or trophy that can only be obtained by opening all 5 chests AND winning the race at the same time.

I can’t get this bullshit sigil, my best time is 1.4 at this point 🙁

this challenge just make me want to uninstall the game

Me too.. im a second off every time i come close...

Currently playing this game after years (I played it on release for the PS2). I do believe that this game should get the FF7 Remake treatment. However… If they do, they cannot, under any circumstance, include any of the Sigil requirements- butterfly catching, blitzball, lightning dodging and of course, this incredibly unbalanced, unfair and unfun mini game.

After 6 hours man seesh that’s a hassle so much Rng

I've always been of the opinion that this is the worst designed minigame in any FF game, perhaps in any JRPG. The controls fight you as the chocobo doesn't do what you tell it. The edges of the map are invisible and jagged, and cause your dumb bird to turn around like it bounced off an invisible wall, the camera turns conflict with your inputs unless you're constantly changing angle enough to refresh it, the random placement of balloons and birds means very often you can't win even if you play perfectly, there's no instant-restart so if you get screwed you just have to wait, the controls are tank controls instead of actual directional movement, 0.0 does not count as victory despite the counter not ever showing below 0.0, and this absolute mess of design gates a celestial weapon. Just inexcusable.

Well in the catcher chocobo race, the chocobo moves forward on its own so the only control you have over it is to steer it left or right, and that's frustrating in itself cuz it sometimes likes to steer on its own. But if you're talking about input lag, then maybe try connecting the controller directly to the console? (disclaimer: idk how controllers work on the switch, so I'm not sure how to fix an input lag issue there)

Anybody wanna make 80 bucks and win this thing 🤣
