@@areyouamorp3808 How common? Name a squad that prided itself on not allowing more than 70 pts/gm. That team was the basketball version of 2000 Ravens defense. 90-100 pts./gm sounds more normal. Even then, you wasn't getting many buckets on that team.

More skilled, 3 pointers, faster pace etc. 80s have very fast pace thats why they also scored 110+ points. Its not about the defense.
@alexanderhenry9133

@@lukamagicgod It is 100% about the defense. 2001-2004 was a time frame when hand checking was still legal but the illegal defense rules were taken away. The rules at the time were the most favorable to defenders than the 80s/90s or the 2010s/2020s. After hand checking was taken away then scoring and shooting efficiency started to go up. People thought the NBA was getting boring to watch because it was being dominated by balanced defensive teams (Spurs and Pistons) rather than exciting offensive superstars. So the league changed the rules to limit the impact of defenders. Which led to a more offense-forward game.
I like how Vangundy called Atkins Billups two different players clearly Billups was on the sidelined injured The good days lol

Wow, I remember this Piston team back in the days, because when I started watching the NBA they were the first team I really became a huge fan of and Hamilton was my fav player😄
Detroit Pistons were goated, 2000's babies have no clue
Damn this when I was in high school. Super classic and great days in Detroit.
Of all the players on the floor, Eric Snow shoots the final 3 pointer of that game. PLUS look at the scoreboard, those points were hard earned.
Iverson got scared of Wallace down 74-72 when he had the lane and tried to pass instead of shooting the ball
Big Ben had the complete defensive skillset: defensive rebounds, post defense, intimidation, shot blocking, interception, help defense and switchability.
As a Sixers fan, I had just turned 13 years old a few days prior to this game. That Pistons defense was stifling. But this was an absolute heartbreaker. When Eric Snow of all people hits a clutch 3-pointer for the lead, you have to win that game. This is where our 2nd-round losing streak began. 2003. Fast forward to 2022, it continues. 🤦🏾♂️

Sixera Goaltending of a lifetime
I grew up watching NBA of this era. NBA players today are no doubt so much more skilled and versatile and I love watching them, but they seem to be getting all the more similar to each other. NBA might be even more exciting if there were (more) players that are fun to watch although not good at three pointers, euro steps or step back jumpers.

During this era players had varying skillsets, thats what made it fun to watch you got pure scorers, passers, shooters and elite defenders. It was like a chess board with different pieces and the coaches had to play them perfectly. Nowadays most players coming in are so versatile and well rounded they all sort of blend into one.
DAMN... that was crazy looks like Philly will never win! XD

Ben Wallace. Top-2 defenders all-time.

Entertaining basketball and the final score is 78-77 Hmm I wonder why players today are more efficient and have higher stats? Faster pace? Less defense? More focus on getting 3pt shooters on your team? Hmmm 🤔
@Coolhand69
2 жыл бұрын
Faster a team gets the ball up the court the more likely to score, also the leagues much softer now in calling flagrant fouls and “normal” fouls which lead to much more points. Also if an individual player can shoot above a certain percentage from 3 it’s a better value than shooting a 2. These factors all contribute to more points generated.
