To this day, The Witcher 3 still stands out among all other games in terms of the quality of it's side quests. Some of the side quests/hunts in the game are so immersive, well-written and oozing of care and attention, that I'd argue the game wouldn't be anywhere near as good without them. They're in a class of their own, and I'm still waiting to play a game that gets even remotely close to it's quality. I'd argue that some of the hunts in the game are better than a lot of actual games. I can't praise them enough.

Fun thing about the lullaby you missed is that if you listen to the lyrics they are made in a way that the witcher is the monster that you warn your children about Wolves asleep amidst the trees Bats all aswayin' in the breeze But one soul lies anxious wide awake Fearing all manner of ghouls, hags and wraiths Birds are silent for the night Cows turned in as daylight dies But one soul lies anxious wide awake For the Witcher, brave and bold Paid in coin of gold He’ll chop and slice you Cut and dice you Eat. It shows the moral ambiguoty of the situation. The „monster/vampire” needs to feed on blood to survive and the Whichers take money to kill monstsrd that are a problem for humans. The vampire knows the Whicher will come she anticipated it. She tries to scare himans when she seas it doesn’t worl she tries to seduce him but it doesn’t change his mind. The vampire moves quickly into the barn where it will have better chances to defeat the Whicher. After the bite the vampire knows it has bean poisoned it tries to atack the Whicher and gets her arm chipowe of understanding she lost all her powers she tries desperatelly to escape and the Whicher kills her. As she lies dying a tear drives from her eye as she turned human. Geralt does not feel good about killing the monster. As the Sun sets it burns the corpse of the beautiful girl to reaveal she was a vampire and probably drank himan blood to survive. The Whicher does not ride into the sunset but into a city that is cold and gray a metaphore to the world both Geralt and the vampire exist.

@@orestmakar8562 she is not a vampire. She is a bruxa. Witchers don't take contracts on vampires as they are higher beings. People should play Blood and Wine expansion to know what I mean by that. This lullaby is sung by monsters to their children so they are aware of Witchers. Witcher World is cruel for both monsters and humans. Humans also shun Witchers. The Witcher 3 game shows this perfectly.

Most of the things you see here do exist in the game. The medallion vibrating/detecting magic or magical creature. The potion "Black Blood" DoTs a vampire that bites you and cancels the bite. The Moon Dust bomb prevents creatures' transformation/regeneration so she's revelealed and forced to fight, unable to turn into shade. Bruxas are a formidable opponent in hard difficulties within the game. There are some encounters where music goes silent and you hear crows flying around in the distance above trees, so the game warns you. As you aggro, she usually goes invisible and moves really quick and will try to bite. Without spoiling too much, yes, you encounter this specific Bruxa in the game, amazing character. The encounter is missable if you don't follow clues. Aaaand last but not least, the poem, Lullaby of Woe can be heard or mumbled or read in some parts of the game. The song/poem is usually used to scare children but is also an expression of resentment towards Witchers, or a warning, as they can sometimes be monsters too if provoked. Wolves asleep amidst the trees Bats all swaying in the breeze But one soul lies anxious, wide awake Fearing all manner of ghouls, hags and wraiths For your dolly polly sleep has flown Don't dare let her tremble alone For the Witcher Heartless cold Paid in coin of gold He comes, he'll go, leave naught behind But heartache and woe Deep, deep woe Birds are silent for the night Cows turned in as daylight dies But one soul lies anxious wide awake Fearing all manner of ghouls, hags and wraiths My dear dolly polly shut your eyes Lie still, lie silent utter no cries As the Witcher Brave and bold Paid in coin of gold He'll chop and slice you Gut and dice you Eat you up whole Eat you whole

Always loved that trailer where the places of Hunter and Monster are switched constantly. As you've said, she's a monster who've been alive for centuries and therefore doesn't fear him, on the other hand he's a professional monster killer who've been trained to kill things like her if necessary and only sees that confrontation as part of his job before moving to the next contract. You only know who's gonna come on top if you're already aware he's the main character of the story. That's some high level visual storytelling we got there. What's crazy is the fact they've actually retroactively integrated that trailer in the game's canon years later, with the DLC called Blood and Wine in which you met that woman posing as a noblewoman of the city until you discovered she was feeding on orphans and basically told her to get the f- out because you didn't have time to deal with her at the time. That basically recontextualized the scene by making it happen years after the actual end of the game.

That's what I love about this trailer and The Witcher series in general, Geralt might be considered "super" compared to the average human, but this trailer makes it clear that's not the end all, be all, he won this fight, but it wasn't a clean win, and ultimately had to sacrifice his body to get it, he wasn't just untouchable and laying the smack down on this thing and avoiding all the damage it was dealing.

Yup as Phillip said, he won due to her mistake and her arrogance. Its a theme that repeats countless times in the witcherbooks, be it Sorel Degerlund, Regis, Vilgefortz and also in a way Geralt himself all die due to similair acts of "overestimating their ability to control a sitiuation".

both the potion (Black Blood) and the bomb (don't recall the name) are in the game and work exactly the same on Vampires. ** SPOILER ALERT ** the female character is part of the Blood and Wine expansion as a morally complicated NPC who protects and takes care of a bunch of children in her Orphanage... only to use them as wine cellar. "You see witcher? the world's not black and white, it's shades of all kinds. I drank from the children, true, but never so much as to kill. And I gave them a great deal in return". God i love this game.

The bomb’s called a Moon Dust bomb. It’s made with silver filings that tend to cling to invisible or incorporeal enemies and ground them, making it possible to track their locations and prevent them from phasing out. It’s good against Bruxae like this one (a kind of middle-tier vampire that fills the classic ‘lady seductress’ archetype), but also against wraiths.

A smal add, Witchers have great low light vision, but for his eyes to glow, he also took Cat's Eye. Between the two, he might have been in toxic overload (an actual thing in game for those of you that haven't played), which means he wasn't at his best for fighting. A tacticall decision as he knew how dangerous his prey really was.

Also I love how they put much thought into both of their abilities. Her getting rid of her clothing is her getting ready for combat as she sheds her human form like the cloth. But also so she can use her invisibility. If you ask how would such a power work you are left with either everything she touches will also turn invisible, or only her body, so she needs to be naked to use this power. The powder was also very nicely done and showed how he came prepared to counter her powers. Something else they showed us, was he couldn't really hurt her. She just would block his blade with her hands. But when she drank his poisoned blood, he could wound her. I think they did a great job in showing many things, without getting a whole monologue of what he is going to do.

Geralt didn't "let" her bite him - but as experienced professional he drank the potion as precaution for fight going south - he knew he's gonna fight powerful vampire (probably knew it'll be bruxa or around this level). If he'd be able to, he wouldn't let her bite him, since it's lose-lose strat - he is weakened by this, not to mention beat up he received to make it possible.

Great review, one of the things you missed (probably due to not playing the game much) is when you bring up how it zooms in on the necklace it’s not because it’s trying to tell the viewer he’s from a special organization, instead notice that the necklace is vibrating/shaking as he walks in the barn, the necklace vibrates like that to warn a Witcher that evil is nearby. So if a Witcher is walking through what he perceives to be a safe location and all of a sudden the necklace starts vibrating, he knows a monster is nearby.

A great thing about this trailer is that players can actually use all the same things Geralt uses, not losing even the visual effects (giving the difference between a cinematic and gameplay ofc). I don't know all English names but you have a potion that turns your blood into kinda poison (black blood), you fight a creature like that (she's a lower vampire), you use that bomb with silver fillings to show invisible enemies and you use all the magic that Geralt does. This could fully be an actual quest from the game, just looking better. Beside using the crossbow outside of water.

Pyrrhus wasn't a Roman general, he was a Greek king of Epirus and fought the Romans during the Pyrrhic War. He was a far better general than pop history would have you believe (and is considered one of the best generals of his time, supposedly even according to Hannibal himself), but a string of extremely costly victories eventually cost him his war against Rome and saw the Greek cities in Southern Italy eventually subjugated by Rome and Sicily by Carthage. Even though the quote is likely fake, its still one of my favorites from ancient history. "If we are victorious in one more battle with the Romans, we shall be utterly ruined"

This particular Bruxa does appear in the Witcher 3 game. There are weaker lesser kin and higher vampires even more powerful and then elders that are near godlike. Lesser vampires while cunning are not able to blend into society since they have more batlike forms and cannot shapeshift. They can use illusions to move around undetected and stalk prey.
