@willevensen7130 you do realize that if you get jumped immediately you can't learn the actual mechanics of his attacks or learn much about the area and thus do NOT "know what's up" I think you've just fought him enough times that you've forgotten how absolutely horrible the area design is. That spot deceives you into thinking you're safe but the Demon can still hit you, can attack in ways that you mechanically cannot and thus wouldn't easily predict, HAS DOGS that are hard to hit without a long reach jab due to the closeness of the area and oppression of poise breaking. You almost have no choice but to get lucky otw in if you're on PC and don't have quite good enough specs. My game always screen tears after the fog wall due to the number of entities in that whole area. To prevent it I have to clear the area hitless if I want flasks for the fight or go hitless in the fight. After playing for about 80 hours the fight is MUCH closer to trivial. Bell Gargoyle is literally two bosses on an open roof with extra limbs and fire breathing. It's easier than Capra Demon. Note: the Demon isn't the difficulty, it's the combo of him and the dogs and the bad space. Mostly the space.

Little known backstory: The tenants of the lower Undead Burg signed a petition to have the Capra Demon evicted for keeping pets in an unsuitably small space, violating various regulations in the process, but the whole initiative went nowhere, because nobody was able to figure out the landlord‘s identity. True story. 😛

Honestly beating the Capra Demon in three attempts is pretty impressive. He's an infamous "wall" boss. It's one of only two points that are unfair but I appreciate how it forces the player to think about how to approach the fight. Capra Demon is pretty weak to plunging attacks so I imagine they intended the player to use the stairs, get his AI to jump down (because it wants to follow a straight line) and then plunge him over and over. Part of the issue though is that the camera gets stuck on everything and it becomes hard to see. Like others have said though you'll never see Capra Demon on anyone's list of favorite bosses because there's not much fighting involved.

The Capra Demon is an extreme difficulty curve, and it's basically a rite of passage. Once you do that, you have the keys to the rest of the game, but you will work for it. Honestly, your fight with the Capra Demon was very good! You learned quickly and didn't succumb to anger or fear. It's really a test for many as it forces you to learn the bosses ranges and timing. After this fight, most of the arenas are larger. I tell you this because it very much shows, just how much you love level design. The way you explore is exactly as the game intends, and it's one of the best first-time runs I've seen. When you find a new room, you check every nook and remember almost every alternate route. You killed the Moonlight Butterfly, got the key, and were chased by Havel (the large knight that 1 shot you with his black Dragon Tooth). He chased you back up the tower, where you were then blocked off by shielded enemies, so you traveled higher, past the Taurus Demon's castle wall, and into the Dragon's Roost. At the bridge, you nearly tested the limits for passing under the Dragon, and in the process, you found the locked door. This is exactly how you are intended to proceed. The game does a very good job of directing you through difficulty. If you had gone any other way, it would have been a serious struggle, and you either would have had to overcome or been rerouted eventually to this same place. Your knowledge of level design guided you right back to wear you aught to be. Your run has been extremely enjoyable to watch.Your fight with Capra Demon was much better than you realize. You quickly found the strategy, learned the timings and spacing, and found openings to strike back. You fight like life depends on it. I really want to see this through, so I hope this gives you confidence. There will be challenges ahead, but only a couple that really go to this level of engagement until the dlc. You have what it takes to be up their with the best. It's unlikely that you would get into Souls enough to achieve this, but you already play more properly than most. I know you played Bloodborne first, but you are no doubt talented. Anyway I'll be hoping for more, as this has been the most enjoyable Dark Souls playthrough I've watched in the entire series. I'm sure I'm not alone in this. Keep up the good work. You are a legend 🫡

@armanii4005 Nah its true. It may not be for people like us but for the general public if this is their first Souls game, this fight will likely kick their butt. Try doing this fight SL1 NG+7 no hit and you'll see its one of the hardest fights in the game to achieve this due to the dogs. Extreme may be a bit extreme, but its still 100% a difficulty curve for many. If its not your first Souls game, its not a problem at all. Despite playing Bloodborne, it was her first Souls game, which plays a lot differently. My compliments are less on her fighting style, and more focused on her attention to detail. She really pays attention to the world, and rarely disappoints in that regard. She highlighted exactly what makes DS1 stand out in the trilogy.

It's cool to see this part of the game from a new players perspective, I've been a big fan of Dark Souls since its release and have played it so much that it's become second nature now. Watching this reminds me of what it was like on first playing - mostly running away from everything. When you first encountered Havel, the guy hiding in the doorway, you were pretty brave to face him like that. The best way to fight him, albeit being very difficult, is to constantly backstab him but if you beat him you get a good reward. Just don't get hit. Edit: You also revealed something I didn't even realise after many playthroughs! Griggs of Vinheim might not be who he says he is and the dead body in the barrel might be the real Griggs after all.

Just in case: spoilers for the episode In the Capra Demon fight you panic rolled a lot. One well timed roll per enemy attack is good, everything else just drains your stamina. And then you kept holding your shield up which slowed your stamina recovery too, when you were already having less because of the rolling. That way the demon kept breaking your guard. All of this being said though you still took way fewer tries than I did when fighting him for the first time so don't take my nagging too seriously here. You did really well! And if it helps: There aren't any more bosses in such tight spaces.

I know you're probably already aware, but you're really, *really* fucking good at these games. You're a natural, really. You immediately got the counter mechanics in Bloodborne, and the fact it took you just a couple of tries to bring the Capra Demon down to half health without even using the stairs and gate to get the drop on him is awesome for someone's first playthrough. You just got it immediately. I'm still in shock. Can't wait to see what kind of whacky build you'll be using by the end, lol. Keep up the great work! Also, the magic that negates some fall damage can prove very useful in a boss much later on in the game, and the basic soul arrow spell can come in clutch when you need a long-range fix and don't want to spend arrows every time. Both are pretty accessible and handy even without putting any extra points into INT. JSYK.

You did wonderful on the Capra Demon fight. It is legendary for being the cheesiest and most stressful for new players. If i recall, that's the smallest arena you'll have to fight a boss in the entire game (apart from the Moonlight Butterfly, which you also defeated). Even fighting Havel (the dude in the tower you found) is easier as you've got quite a bit of space there and you can run around more if you wish. Your instincts are good, with running past him, getting to some safer ground (stairs, instead of consistently trying to fight him and the dogs by the fog gate), even if keeping him at a distance was rough. You persevered and it didn't take 15 tries, so that's something to be proud of ^^ Keep it up, you're better than you think you are!

Also to get past the dragon go up the stair, then back down let the first shot happen then run into the corner behind the stairs, wait till after the next shot then book it. You'll want to have almost no equipment so you're as fast and possible and any fire resistance you can find. Once you get past the dragon will fly away.

Love your intros and also love "the get right into it" intro! Your sense of spatial awareness is very good. Very nice edits throughout. You noticed the Darkroot Garden level design very well. I am watching another well-known streamer playing his first playthrough and you are so much farther along in a much shorter time. Your fighting style with the shield is very good and your grasp of the menu, items, humanity concept and the level up statistics are just peachy. You are picking up base mechanics much quicker than most. Challenging the Drakes is very bold, and you are understanding the boundaries of where to go and not to go, stellar. I have never seen Havel the Rock chase players that far, hilarious! We all sometimes need to request absolution; it is worth in the end. for "It is only human to commit a sin". You are a true Black Knight Slayer. The Black Knight Sword is a rare drop! My first playthrough I came back when I leveled much higher before I fought any Black Knights, back in the day those things were *tough*. I believe the Remaster changed some elements from the original "at launch" game release OR the young ones these days are just far better. This game is truly one of the BEST, and you are finding mostly ALL of the shortcuts in this well-crafted level design, world that Miyazaki (From Soft) created. Your "Patience Meter" is hilarious!! Capra Demon took me more than 20 times on my first playthrough, you are good don't you worry about those who may be cross, at you. Every NEW player goes through the exact same troubles. Many have quit due to this boss so it is NOT you. From what I saw you got him in less than 10 times which is excellent. The trick to Capra is simply to just run up the stairs and "plunge attack" him, from the top, rinse and repeat. Have a drink and a rest. I believe Capra Demon to be the MOST frustrating Boss in Soulsborne games due to him being such an early boss (and size of room). You have flushed the Capra down the toilet you got past the worst, of it, with style, IMHO. You got a great key now from him! Well Done, Amber! Thanks for your time and sharing! Awesome Editing!! Stay Cool! 😎

Haha I love the Capra, was a real panic inducer on my first playthrough but he isn't so bad if you bait him so you can use plunging attacks. Also I had more poise so I wasn't as easy to stagger. I definitely recommend checking either of those knight sets you picked up again, when your equip load is showing as red that doesn't mean you can't equip it, it just means it is heavier than your current equipment. Look out for the Poise stat on armour too. Really fun playthrough so far, can't wait for next episode!

I'll tell you a story about my first time playing Dark Souls. I took much of the journey you have to this point, getting flattened by Black Knights, murdered by Skeletons, gored by the Fangboar. All that good shit. My sticking point was the Gargoyles. Christ, they must've killed me thirty times. I finally beat them, carried on, and eventually ran into the Capra Demon. Yes, he's frustrating. But if it makes you feel better, there's only one boss more frustrating than him, and it's much later in the game. You're doing great. If you need a break, take it. But you've got this when you get back. ♥️

no worries^^ the capra demon is quite possibly the worst enemy encounter in all of soulsborne titles (and I thin the majority of souls players would agree). The fact that DS1's camera is still fairly atrocious heavily compounds the finnicky encounter in the small area with multiple jumpy enemies. still great job, that was like what, 4 tries? iirc i was well into double digits and actually quit the game for a couple of years exactly there^^

@LottJi Indeed. The Bed of Chaos is so terrible, FromSoft had to break the core principle of enemies reverting to the initial status after the death of the player. That is extremely significant... In a bad way. The very existence of that boss breaks the rules of the Universe the game series takes place.

@@MODDED7 did you forget the second bonfire in lost izalith is behind an illusory wall? that’s significant. lots of OG players and offline players had a muchhh longer runback and that being said, if u go from Firelink it’s a very similar length runback to BOC from the secret bonfire also the Capra demon is literally an optional boss, master key or not. just don’t fight it and explore the bed of chaos is the worst boss fromsoft has ever made. the first souls boss with checkpoints for a reason.

Capra is a big difficulty spike and is designed to punish and check certain things- especially the (hidden) poise counter. It is quite difficult for lightly armoured builds with low poise- a heavily armoured tank can block Capra without getting staggered, which makes the fight much much easier. It's quite normal for this boss to take 10+ attempts to a first timer, so you actually did very well- particularly in changing up the tactic from charging in to evasion and fireball.

It's funny watching and thinking wow Amber is being really petulant about the Capra Demon fight, but then realising it was exactly the same for me. It's a shame it soured her experience though, and it didn't give her the ecstatic feeling of victory it should have. Personally I think the fight and the audacity of that arena is genius. For someone who's played it multiple times like me, it's really a cakewalk, as you aren't flapping the entire time, and like any other enemy it's just a matter of block, dodge and attack.

It function as a bit of a test to new players, almost like they did with father Gascoigne... you either win and end up falling in love with the game or you get stuck and rage. None of the future boss fights are this frustrating though so don't worry about what's to come, you're doing great.

you got the Basement Key at the Undead Parish. right by the halberd you're using. idk why but that's the part *everyone* gets stuck on the first time through - me included. none of us read the key item description when we pick it up, and then we forget about it. i guess because there's a lot going on in that area and it's a bad place to stop and read? and nah, Capra Demon fight rules. it's a unique challenge, and it asks you to play smart. gives a tight room limiting movement, but also stairs and a ledge, enabling you to run circles around the boss, and get plunging attacks for an easy kill. but if you get anxious and panick, it's super hard. that's great boss design

Capra is a very clumsy way to try to get the player to learn to dodge TOWARD an enemy rather than go with the instinct of constantly backing away. It’s really clear though that the encounter didn’t get the amount of polish it needed. It is a very frustrating fight. But you got through it! There’s only one other boss I can think of that feels quite so unpleasant to fight, but that arena is larger and has no dogs. Whether you choose to keep playing or not, you did conquer the Capra Demon and that’s not nothing!

Just in case you don’t know, you can’t backstab with your shield up. I noticed that when you were fighting the dark knight. Lowering your shield will also let you regain stamina faster. Capra demon is one of the worst boss fights. A lot of people quit because of it. There are tougher fights, but they never feel cheap and mean like this one does.

Hi Amber, love your videos! Just a bit of advice that may hopefully help you: since you have a light build, you can make so much more out of rolling while in combat. You´ll notice that while rolling you move much faster and that allows you to move around the enemy quicker for those backstabs you love so much. You use a shield so I´m not telling you to stop blocking attacks, but maybe you want to try and roll more while in combat to see if t makes your fights easier. All that being said, I have to add that I´ve never seen anyone enjoying the game so much without raging like a lunatic when things don´t go your way, so, in that sense, you´re years ahead of everyone else!

Grats on beating the Capra Demon! It's honestly one of the walls most new players hit where they either have to learn how to dodge and position correctly or figure out one of the few ways to cheese it. Incidentally, a couple ways you can cheese it are using a weapon that does enough damage to break it's poise in a single blow allowing you to chain stun it, keep looping it up the stairs then attacking when it does the drop animation going off the side, or just stay on the door frame to the side of the stairs and throw fireballs or magic at it. You kinda did a bit of the loop on the stairs one, but honestly you largely beat it with just dodging and positioning, and on top of that you beat it with a polearm, one of the worst weapons for a small area like that because how much your weapon can bounce off stuff. So yeah, big props for that!

Hey Amber, great job so far! Glad you came back to Dark Souls. I have one suggestion: I'd recommend playing offline so you don't get messages on the ground or anything spoiled. If you keep playing that way, you're very sure to see messages that give away all the secrets -- illusory walls, wearing items to discover secrets, stuff you could figure out yourself. That's just me, because I like watching truly blind playthroughs without everything spoiled. But if you're into the experience with messages and invasions and stuff then by all means go ahead.

Edit: I feel your frustration at Capra demon so much! They stick you in a phone booth with a giant demon with two fuck off knives and two dogs! It's a very badly designed boss fight that is intentionally frustrating. The way they expect you to do it is to run in, kill the dogs, bolt up the stairs, and do a drop attack, then run back up the stairs and do another drop attack. The drop attacks wreck him pretty quickly, but most new players either don't know you can do it or don't remember. It sucks. But the rest of the game is better, I promise!
