Every advanced bluff only works v players who see it’s possibility. Just like when less capable players check call then bet/shove river when the front door draw comes…they’re not bluffing so you have to fold top 2 or sets rather than think “of course I’d bluff this river given texture/action” cause they don’t see the bluff spots or understand the logic behind them.

🎯 Your point isn’t talked about enough. I’ll add, while there’s value in “gto strategy”, live poker is and has always been a social game. Find a way to beat the opponent/table that you’re at, at that time. Dewey Tomko has been a poker pro for 4 decades and is still playing. He’s made millions. His approach has been to play to the table. Be flexible. Exploitation is what’s made Phil Ivey arguably the best player in the world. He’s never once studied a gto chart or solver etc. Gto cultists fail to understand that trying to play like a robot will kill the game. The poker boom of the early-mid 00’s would’ve never happened if the players were like how so many are today. Even the commentator in this video (Nick?) is like a wet blanket. No chance the average person who comes across a poker video/show with him commentating is going to be drawn in like they all were with Mike Sexton, Vince van Patton, Gabe Kaplin, etc.

@@chevelle1 definitely agree with what you’re saying, but phil Ivey in recent years has looked at gto charts. He’s still extremely exploitative which is why he’s the greatest of all time (even though today he probably would get eaten alive at super high rollers) but he’s had to adapt at least a little bit to become more balanced with his ranges

@@chevelle1 you know what else I’ve noticed that seems lost in todays poker “teachings/concepts” is a very basic yet arguably the most valuable “read” is simple logic behind bet sizing purpose. Obviously balance is critical but seems too often the simple “If bet is for value, what does my hand look like as played to the river for villain to bet ‘polar’ and actually get called?” After all value bets are primarily intended for value. Maybe I’m completely wrong but by river the range should be highly defined and too often the sizing simply makes no sense for value yet…many GTO players over fold.

1 combo of 22, 1 combo of TT, 6 combos of QT, 3 combos of QQ. He has a T so he can rule out 4 of those combinations. That means he would fear only 7 total hand combinations... all of which make sense as played. However, suited club connectors, gappers, and AXc would have all played this hand the same (I'm not removing AKs AQs because you've shown that you protect your limping range by also limping big hands ALTHOUGH I suspect you are more likely to raise with AKs AQs than AA for the fold equity.) So I count 26 hands you might turn into bluffs here vs. 4 actual winners. Even if we subtract all the Aces (to allow him to have Ac to block our bluffs) there's still 16. Not to mention that all AA KK QQ JJ might have played the hand the same. I think the bet would have gotten called very quickly. EDITED: Typed 4 twice instead of 11-4=7. Thank you Yun S!

Interesting spot. Raise is interesting option on the river. You're going to have 11 pure value combos so for a pot sized raise you'll need like 5/6 bluffs. Question is if you can find 5 better bluffs than A3. For example, do 99,88, 77 without a club work well as bluffs. I feel they probably should but they also have slightly more showdown than A3 which could chop with Ax of clubs once in a blue moon. Also what are you doing with Like AA KK JJ. They're probably the wrong bluffs imo as A10,K10, J10 might all be in Nicks 3-bet range sometimes. I'm quite unsure what the best bluffs would be here as Nick literally has all his 10s. I'm thinking probably an A isn't the worse card to bluff with given that pocket pairs without a club can probably call slightly more than Ax given that Petrangelo takes this line with Ax of clubs. Also not sure if Nick would 3-bet A10 more or less than like K10 or J10. Definitely a spot where I could see a raise being the correct play although a fold makes by far the most sense as getting Nick to lay down a 10 seems slightly optimistic

I have to say, Negreanu is my all-time favorite player. I never thought I'd like watching poker as an adult, but it's surprisingly fun. Him and just a handful of other players. When I found out he had a coach, I think like a lot of people, I automatically assumed that the coach was better, and it kind of changed my perspective on the world of poker. We fans with no knowledge of how poker really works (i.e. the world of poker) see all these KZread videos and just kind of assume that the Phil-Ivey types are just the best there's ever been. That, the game has evolved and is now a completely different beast than it was even 20 years ago. But, then, when I saw he had a coach and was playing against him publicly at some point, I think like a lot of people who don't know any better, my assumption was that he must therefore be better than Daniel. One has to wonder though: as good as he likely is and as much as he understands about the theory and so on and so forth, if he were really so great, then why isn't he a millionaire and why isn't he famous for his skills? There could be other factors (family, came to the game late, has always preferred the theory side of things) but if there's this hidden world of coaches that are better than the Negreanus and Iveys of the world, then where are they all hiding?

I wonder what the ideal bluffing combo is (for humans I assume solvers have a million partials). I'm thinking it might be AcQx because a Q isn't that different from A high in terms of bluff catching but is a very relevant blocker. That also gives you 7 value hands and 3 bluffs so a 600K (ICM probably changes this number a bit) bluff makes them indifferent between calling or folding a T. Normally you don't want to block auto folds in clubs but given that if you aren't bluffing AQ you should be calling with it I assume it is different here.

I check-shoved a river once as a bluff on a double paired board where I had AK with no pair. So the board was something like what it was here, TT225. It was in a $1,100 tournament, but my opponent was a good player. I thought he was pure bluffing. He wasn’t. He folded the 2 (or whatever it was in that hand) for the lower possible full house. He asked me the next day what I had and I told him. I don’t think he was happy. I don’t think there are many players in $1,100 tournaments who are capable of folding a full house, but luckily for me, he was a good, thinking player.

Would love to hear what Nick was thinking after betting your A high to call how he would play his hand to a raise. I just feel like theoretically off these stacks you never let that go to anything. I don’t think he would give you QQ on a button limp bc how weird it would play post and he has Tx massively blocked. It just doesn’t feel like a good story.

Your reasoning makes sense Daniel, but you didn’t consider the fact that you under-repped top set so when you raise, you’re only polarized to 89 here because I don’t think 55’s could even raise here. I’m sure Nicky could have large range of hands that he still pays you off with like TT, KK, AA, QJ, QT, etc. I honestly believe a raise here would be a great line solely because you under repped JJ. Counter argument?

What are the odds you haveing the case 10 and one of three queens or the two missing 2s, exactly 4 out of 2,598,960 possible starting hands. A little thin.. if Nick had a 2 instead, a raise would have worked for sure. Do you agree?

I’m just a complete fish(obviously) but are there really 2598960 starting hands? I thought the figure was nearer 1400 which is considerably less but hey what do I know:))

@@julianhodgson1961 Ops me too, your totally right, mixed that up with possible combinations after the river consisting of 5 cards 😅 And I forgot to consider pocket Queens as well. So 7 out of 1326 it is!

Not sure why you'd bet on that flop in the first place? You're not getting called by K-high/Q-high and not folding out made hands/flush draws.

It's an easy flop bet. He forced Bonomo off a much better hand than him and he's also betting for protection and to just take the pot down here. If the blinds have two random hands that have nothing, say 98os and 76os, he's letting those hands outdraw him for free and potentially even bluff him off his ace high on future streets. If you aren't betting flop here you hate money and just don't understand poker.

The Ontario government just blocked Canadians from playing with other people from outside the province. The regular brick and mortar casinos were losing too much revenue ( to online poker ), so it's Black Friday in Ontario and probably every other province in Canada. If you play Poker professionally then people move to Vegas or Asia ( Thailand / Hong Kong etc. ).

Might want to occur to you sometime that "pimpin" is a horrible, abusive, and misogynistic word, and should never be used in a positive light. I ain't tryin' to cancel ... I just want you to be as good as you think you are. Women are awesome. Pimpin is the very definition of forcing women to conform to our ideals, at whatever price we (as men) decide. It's indefensible.
