This meant it couldn't take on the roles it was needed for, such as being a long-range escort for bombers. though i'm sure most of those problems were solved when later models were equipped with the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine.

Last year, I happened to meet a former F-14 pilot who now flies Boeing 777s for a major U.S. airline. He was inspired to fly after the original Top Gun and he didn’t think he would be able to be an F-14 pilot. He really loved what he did! At some point, he was ready for a new job and decided to fly for one of the airlines flying passengers. I’m an aircraft mechanic, and flew with pilots on both small Aeroclub aircrafts and 737’s. Just flying the aircraft isn’t that hard. Taking off requires a bit of training and reflexes, landing even more, but what gets is all the other tasks you must do. Navigation, communications, checking the instrument, weather forecasts, pre flight plannings, route mapping, remembering to check all the instruments. It felt as an hassle just being on the jump seat, can’t imagine doing it myself.
I had no idea that if you walked up to an F-35, it would feel spongy. I always figured you would just be shot.

The Darkstar does indeed exist. It’s being (as far as WE know) referred to as the “Son of the Blackbird” with its actual name being “SR-72 Darkstar”. It’s 98’ long, with a comfortable operational ceiling of 80k feet (though I’m sure it can go higher), as well as bolstering potential Mach 6+ speeds. It was initially developed to be a UAV with the same missions as it’s predecessor, the SR-71 Blackbird. But that’s legit all us normal folks know about it, or think we know.

The "SR-72" is a design proposal that Lockheed has been pushing for a decade now, the DOD largely appears to still be on the fence. wonderful video, great guest
There were many many cooks but my dear friend Bunky was a cook for many years on the Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier,,, he had a lot of cool cool stories!!
I love how he's not biased and praised The Felon's capabilities.. "Over air conditioned, with mountain dew and pizzas". That felt incredibly specific..
5:26 Sorry that is absolutely wrong. The F-35 doesnt have thrust vectoring. The F-35B can rotate its nozzle to land vertically, but the nozzle doesn't move to make the aircraft turn faster, it actually doesn't move at all with on the F-35 A (Air Force) and F-35C (Navy). Also, "many fifth generation aircraft are their own strike package" is also just a weird statement. First of all, the F-22 can basically do nothing but air superiorty, so his point about being able to do everything is just not applicable. Then there is also the fact there arent really any other 5th gen aircraft. Neither the SU-57 nor the J-20 are actually in use or mass produced.
Humility is rare and good lord not everyone can or should do "it"
What a chill dude!
At about 5:30 you’ve basically inferred that the F-35 has thrust vectoring which is incorrect. The F-35B nozzle rotates downward for STOVL but it is not vectored thrust. Neither the F-35A nor F-35C nozzles rotate. The F-35C, operated by the USN, has larger wings and landing gear but again, no thrust vectoring.

Only the F22 has vertical thrust vectoring. SU-xx series aircraft have omnidirectional thrust vectoring.

Sorry, but the F-14 is the prettier plane by far.

I’m kinda curious if we will ever get to the point where all the best parts of all these planes are combined into one plane

Matthew you are a blessed human being to call yourself a fighter jet pilot. 🎉 Lucky you.

That f/a designation means you’re wrong. The f/a 18 is the first multi role fighter by designation, the f16 was later updated with those capabilities as well. The f4 was used in that capacity but was never designated as or considered a multi role jet
He speaks so well. Fine persona🤌🏼
GOOD MAN!!!! Pure love is GD right!! FA18 is my favorite too!!😊😊 Everybody is always talking about how awesome the F22 & F35 are! And they ARE, but the Hornet/Super Hornets just give me a tingle!! I am kindof a blue angels fanboy too so maybe that has something to do with it!!😂😂 Thats awesome he brought them up too! Now that he says it, im not surprised they had to do with filming that movie!! Blue angels are #1!! I was born in pensacola and anytime i go back there i always try and see them, also you can see them practicing sometimes too!! So frickin cool!!😁😁
Such a humble skilled pilot..
Was he thinking of the F-35B when he mentioned the moving nozzle? Plus, it can only be used for STOVL

I thought all models had a nozzle that moved, but the B moved way down for vertical landing.

bro i had the same observation. F-35 series dont use TVC during flight.Only F35B STOVL variant uses it for Take off , transition and landing phase. Man this means u know your fighters

Back right after WW2 veterans could buy a P-51 for a dollar. The veterans could buy anything they wanted plus they were able to keep their weapons.
very humble guy, you love to see it
Thanks for the expertise :)
Wait he's 200lbs? My man here should be jacked AF to look that fit and be that heavy!
To be nitpicky it was an F35C, not an F35A
