It’s been used, and has been the suspect for shootings down many SU24 recently, these are the only plane that can carry the shadow strike cruise missiles. What ever plane shooting this down, it hasn’t been detected yet

Actually he was used on Kiev attacks a couple times . Even in few Ukrainian Telegram videos show a noice of his engines and were recorded by regular people. They don't sound like standard russian engines at all. It has a more high pitch . Now this is something I heard personally at videos at same night Russians said they use it.

I believe a few fired off some missiles well at a safe distance. It was far enough away from the front so that it would be almost impossible to shoot them down. So as far as we know they may have just been used as flying missile trucks.

It's not even categorized as a stealth fighter, only the media calls it that. I think NATO would categorize it as a reduced visibility fighter. And it's still made with the Soviet cold war (and US fighter mafia) doctrine. Optimised for dogfighting over bvr. Everyone else had realised by the 70s that dogfights were on the way out, and long range missiles were the future. Russia has caught up with their missile tech, but their planes are all obsolete. If they ever get rid of their cleptocrats, they're going to have to start from scratch and play catch up.

@@aleksandarjevremovic1028 But it is a standard Russian engine that is being used on other Russian aircraft. The engine that it is supposed to have has not yet been developed and deployed. So I seriously doubt the stories. Also, Ukraine has proven pretty good at shooting down every other type of aircraft that Russia has used over Ukraine (or very near to Ukraine). I don't believe the Russian Military would use the SU-57 in Ukraine as it would be a total PR disaster if Ukraine shoots one down (not to mention the loss of intelligence on the aircraft and it's electronics from the recovered wreckage which would soon be in US hands).

Except for those giant engine nozzles sticking out the back giving a great radar return and lighting up every IR scope that is not directly in front of them. The F-35 has one of those and that's bad enough let alone two of them. The Raptor on the other hand has two extremely powerful engines with hidden square exhaust ports that at least minimizes radar return.

I came here for the comments. It's astounding to see the number of aerospace engineers and material scientists here discussing and comparing, from design to functionality to application and lethality.

I know it's not for aesthetics, but the mismatched panel colors on the Su-57 look awesome.

I saw the Su 57 recently got an engine upgrade, my impression with this plane is a couple of things. A) they weren't trying to make a direct counterpart to the F22, Russia prefers a workhorse to a racehorse usually. B) It's a paradigm shift and is a learning project which is slowly being modified and refined as money allows. It's like the shift to windows xp, there were a lot of problems due to 64 bit never being used before. I assume this because the successor to the Su 57 is already in development and pre-production. It's a really beautiful airplane in any case

My theory is that after India 'dropped out' of the programme, the Russians no longer wanted a full-fledged stealth fighter. They don't even apply the most basic criteria for stealth (rivet concealment, serpentine air intake design, serrated edges, metal-less canopy, etc). These are well known necessities for effective stealth, there is no way the Russians don't know this (all the more so because they clearly use them on their stealth drone). They simply don't need a Russian F22. Nevertheless, I think it is a beautiful aircraft, I am very sorry that we will never see one of these here in the middle of Europe on a peaceful airshow.

I also looked at high resolution photos, and i can still see through the air intakes, so I don't understand what you are trying to say. The Su-57 is a beautiful plane, but Sukhoi itself claims a radar cross section of 1-0.01 m2. I assume they know for sure what their aircraft is capable of. American planes can do what? A 100 times less? Unfortunately. I'm rooting for the Russians, I wish America had a good big strong counterforce, but unfortunately this plane falls short compared to the western ones.

@@jakovskaro8224 well India isn't begging again they already signed for su 57 when it gets completed, the matter of fact is USA flew their F35 , FA18 And 21 in aero India airshow FOR SALE purpose and they ended up with Rafael as France offered better weapon system than FA 18 and Rafael performed better at high altitude in Himalayan mountains just to let you know that war scenario is totally different in specific Himalayan mountains atmosphere and plain desert like middle east and we already have fought and won a war at that altitude without machines , and about f35 (We dropped the idea of f35 after south Korea half of f35 fleet was not able to fly due to high maintenance failure issues which i am not sure why everyone in west is trying to ignore about)our choice was su 57 because we needed a solid aircraft not a sophisticated one reason even the more water exposure can damage a beautiful aircraft like raptor and 35. Just some spoiler (India operates S400 RUSSIAN and even after that USA wants to have f35 stationed on our Himalayan air strips that thing is itself is sus , cuz last time a NATO country imported Russian s300 it was excluded out of F35 programmed. USA in every 6 months comes to train with us at that high altitude warzone every wondered ? the only aircraft f-15 of US was able to be on par with mig29 in those mountains cuz at that area its the game of altitude. There's a lot going on with f35's recently (only the countries with US influence buy those and their maintenance record is 100% Sussy). Su 57 is also no good but at the moment the only so called 5th generation aircraft who have faced a engagement and war is su 57 pinning down a Ukrainian su 27. (summary is stop shitting and start appreciating) cuz every place is not middle east , Stealth is not something that's a priority in harsh conditions like Indian Warzones here the humans and the reliable machines work.(if you think US machines are reliable bro trust me you are either blind or dumb cuz we operate 7-8 different style of fighters according to the requirements and none of them is US made cuz it was never able to stand the conditions).

We have mirage for bombings , rafael for air superiority, mig 29 for aircraft carrier and high altitude and lastly Sukhoi SU 30 mki that beautiful flanker is the most advance flanker of SU 30 model cuz it only Russian by airframe whole DNA of that plane is rebuilt. (We Indians are little bit bias towards our friend Russia cuz he was the one who was supporting our back and scared the US 7th fleet away with their Nuclear submarine fleet ) And we have tested Russian weapons they are definitely trust worthy. Lastly as in war there is no use of advance weapons if you cant use them because the the country making them censor you lol avg US game. I'll reevaluate my opinions about the Su-57 if India or any other Russian allies actually buy some. The "problematic" F-35 keeps getting new orders and deliveries, so it's difficult to compare.

When people say it's "problematic" or "buggy", they just do not understand the problems with being cutting edge - or the fact that problems can be resolved. The Gripen is easy to maintain because they are optimizing older, very well understood technology. The F-35 and the F-22 are the cutting edge and the first of their kind. Novel issues will arise, period. And nobody else will have solved them. But the do get solved. In the time Russia has built 12 SU-57s, the F-35 has already upgraded it's capabilities several times too. By the time the SU-57 is optimistically in full production, the 6th Gens will be rolling out.

@@recoil53 It was more than this - Russian boasting is not just boasting, they are trying to compete in the arms market. So with their highly motivated and huge (but surprisingly inefficient) fake news industry, a lot of the ‘problems’ with the F-35 are politically motivated. Add in conspiracy theorists in the west and the ‘reformers’ like Pierre Spray (RIP) a lot of noise was made about the F-35 that wasn’t really honest. The Indians have been badly burned by their crush on all things Russian military, which is why they dropped out of paying for the Felon. I’m no fighter pilot but when I see multiple interviews of pilots who have flown the teen series for years and some of them even moved to the F-35 saying that they’d rather be in the F-35 than any other plane, I believe them. Many are now retired and have no fish to fry pushing the F-35 and are hugely nostalgic for the planes they flew but all say the F-35 is near perfect for its role. Also, that the Russians are developing something to match Link-16, a 30-40 year old NATO technology should tell you everything. Modern conflict benefits from the same stuff that has benefited industry and communications over the last generation. Networking is a huge force multiplier - it doesn’t matter how agile a plane is if it’s facing adversaries with situational awareness light years ahead of them. Russians are dangerous, but mostly because they don’t value human life. Even their own. But we have all come to see that their high tech is not particularly high, is stolen or relies entirely on components bought from their ‘enemies’. Experience has also shown that American systems are better than published specs but Russian ones are often considerably worse. They just lie. It’s a matter of time before it all comes crashing down. The sooner the better.

I noticed you didn't explain that although the su57 has infrared it only has it facing forwards. Whereas the F35 has 360 thermal detection capabilities meaning it can target crafts behind it. Those sidewinder 9x's are insane :~)

@@RCLepcha I know. But it can't be USED without compromising stealth, unlike the F35's various targeting sensors that don't compromise stealth at all when in use.

We have played this game many times before, if you need a reminder look at the MiG-25. A "super scary" interceptor that once the US got their hands on it were like "oh... we were worried over nothing." Russia has proven time and time again they will lie about the abilities of their equipment as a deterrent, while the US generally downplays just how capable it's equipment actually is. The major problems with the SU-57 is they don't have enough and can't build enough to be relevant. While they have aspects of stealth it isn't as good as the F-22 or F-35. They prioritized being capable of "dog fighting" in a world where that just doesn't happen anymore as it's all about beyond visual range. With finally their avionics just aren't as good. In a fight between two stealth aircraft, the one that wins is generally going to be the one that sees the other first, making radar super important. Russia has tried to bridge this gap with an air to air that has a longer range than the US's, but with the AIM-260 coming out? That wont be a thing. Now this isn't to say the SU-57 is a bad aircraft, it's actually incredibly good, just doesn't beat out the F-22 and F-35.

Drone "wingmen" seem like a fantastic force-multiplier. You can increase the weapon load and data gathering capabilities of crewed warplanes whire minimizing the number of soldiers praced in a dangerous situation. It combines the advantages of drone aircraft while eliminating most of their disadvantages.

I think people undersimate this plane. With some sources indicating 32 planes have been built instead of the previous 17-18. Once the more modern engines are fitted and 60-100 planes are done this could be very capable challenger to the US fighters

@@cideltacommand7169 It's not "too expensive" it's the engines, the only thing holding the aircraft back is that the engines are not made or ready. Once that's done they can produce them. Coincidentally, the Armata platform has the same issue, that being the Engines.

I highly doubt the capabilities of Russia to create an AI wingmen, capable of automation. Russia never had a prolific commercial sector that's harvesting great minds and has money to spend. They already addressed the inlets and the compressor blades cross section. Just doing it a little different from the West but with the same results. Also the upgraded engines are now being installed with a mach 2 cruise speed and the engine will be used in older planes for a replacement upgrade. Being used in older planes they will be able to build more making it more reasonable then just building them for the Su57's.

"It might not be as stealthy as we hoped..." "Put a cool, stealthy paint scheme on it. Job done."

A good rule of thumb with the Russians is if you don't see it, they don't have it. They will always have a few to show off. But you never see the item go into mass production.

@@Simeon301091 The SU-57 first flew in 2010 and has been in the Russian air force since the end of 2020. In all that time, they have produced a grand total of.... 32 (10 test, 22 production aircraft). We have 187 F-22 Raptors and we've already built over 1,000 of the F-35 in various models for our own use and for exportation with countless more on the way. At the rate they're going, we'll have retired the F-22 and replaced it in similar numbers with 6th gen aircraft before the SU-57 ever breaks 100 in production models and there will be enough F-35s flying around to become the 3rd largest air force on Earth by themselves.

thing is in the f35 and f22 the paint itself is a ram. which is why they are both shiny and camouflages are really hard to make on them. paint covers the vast majority of the plane and the canopy itself has ram as far as i know too or at least doesnt let waves inside. another thing that isnt taken into account is the panel gaps and panel shapes for the planes there are almos no right anglesi n any of the panels of the f22 and f35 . su57 has square riveted panels all over the fuselage which work like retroreflectors to radar waves

They always forget that an aircraft in stealth mode needs external target designation, because by turning on its own radar it immediately ceases to be stealth. The SU-57 is supposed to fly with the radar turned on, providing targeting for other systems, so it makes no sense to make it undetectable below a certain scope. In this regard, it plays more of the role of an AWACS aircraft than a simple fighter. A similar thing was done with the MIG-31. Russia does not have enough AWACS aircraft, so the Su-57 will take over some of their functions. And drones can be used as a platform for launching missiles.

Aren't you listening carefully - no airplane is trully invisible for DETECTION (with or without passive radar), but it is difficult to TRACK/AIM at with radar-guided missiles, because they are designed to absorb/deflect enemie's tracking radar's frequency (different from detection radar's frequency.

The datalink will go beyond the basic Link-16 OSNOD allows control of assets via the datalink.. Also, OSNOD extend to land and sea based forces for a completely integrated BMS

People are right about production issues but Russia has learned many lessons from this war and Sukhoi will deliver double the number of Su-57 this year than previous one and all will have the new engine and other upgrades installed.This project was so slow because Russians didn't expect to get into any hot wars against an enemy with a lot of air defense.

Regarding the engines, I really wish you would have mentioned that Russia just equipped back in November 2023 is already incorporated into an unknown amount of number of Su-57's and you can really see their nozzle differences, also known as the AL-51F-1 Engine, Russia successfully flew the Su-57 a few months ago with these brand new engines. In terms of the S-70 Hunter-B UAV - Russian's have invested heavily into the Su-57 AI - Which is relayed from Airbase Command Servers to the Pilot, and the Pilot using AI assistance can control the drone. Also, yes, the AL-51 Engines are thinner like the S-70 and yet still maintains its thrust vectoring. Just sad you saying "When will this happen?" when it already did. Fun Fact regarding the predecessor engines, the one's the Su-35S & T-50 Prototypes use, the Saturn AL-41 - China in 2018 iirc bought 30+ Su-35S Aircraft, for the sole purpose of studying their engines, for their own Aircraft programs. Another: I am more than sure that India is regretting its choice to pull out from the FGFA program, because now Pakistan just recently ordered J-31 (supposed) Stealth Aircraft from China, while China has its own Development of Stealth Aircraft like the J-20 and J-31, and India has had clashes and conflicts with both these nations in the 20th Century, after World War 2.

The F-22 is equipped with AIM-9 Sidewinder and the Su-57 lack all forms of IR masking due to having exposed engines. Even if the stealth is effective it will be highly vulnerable in a one on one fight.

Those panels were supposed to be removed for analysis during testing. The aircraft stealth skinning is the last thing perfected during the final stages of production for any stealth aircraft.

A 4 and a half gen fighter with little stealth capabilities and Russian designers whose creations are famous for mechanical problems. Surely this will do great in air to air combat

The SU-47 BERKUT is hands down one of my all time favorite aircraft designs ever produced. Its forward swept wings although created design challenges, once it was figured out and combined with full thrust vectoring made it extremely maneuverability at low to high speed was impressive and far beyond the F-22 Raptors ability. That alone makes it a formidable and extremely deadly air to air combat aircraft. The SU-57 Felon as NATO calls it, is actually a blend of the F22 and YF23 aircraft designs and that being said is also Its own completely different animal. Hyper sonic missile capable makes it hard to find and kill before it strikes from extreme distance from target making the job of the F22 ever harder before visual engagement.

It has Phillips head screws holding the skin on. It has only one trick to “kill” the raptor, and it’s as stealthy as a the sun at noon.

I have read quite a lot about this topic, but there is one site with a deep analysis that I can share .Okay first about the dogfight in visual range. Remember, visual range means getting close, not beyond visual range, because the Su-57 inherits great maneuverability from other Su models with 3D thrust vectoring. It's great, but in terms of stealth capabilities, especially fighting beyond visual range, it's not great by the standard of stealth. It has a radar cross section similar to the F-18 Super Hornet without its armament. So, if it faces the F-22 or F-35 beyond visual range and in a radar fight, it will really lose. It's really painful to say, because it's a great plane, and many simulations and recreations have been done in DCS to note this with the specifications. Now, from the analysis and from the military itself, they say that there are still some other full capabilities that we don't know, but in terms of stealth, it's really not up to the standard of stealth. If the scenario is a dogfight in close range, it can probably defeat the F-35, as that plane lacks maneuverability, but if it's the F-22, the F-22 will probably win with almost 80%, as it has a better fight compared to the Su-57. The thing I hate is why Russia, which has great engineers, lacks funds that make some planes have to be cut and cost. This big example is the Su-57, which lacks full coating of stealth material and many things that can be improved to become better at stealth. It was not designed to go against the Raptor specifically. You can see that by it's layout. It's a semi-stealth brawler. IF it has to get close at all. I'm not a fan-boy for it, or an automatic nay-sayer based on my western allegiance. It's a very nice looking aircraft. It took some of the lessons picking away at western development and made the same conclusions that the Japanese and South Koreans have made. Stealth will be viable until it isn't. A hummingbird sized object moving at 800 knots, isn't a hummingbird. It's still going to need to fight once it's located. The issue with the Felon isn't the plane itself, it's the lack of AWACS or satellite targeting assistance. If you can battle link (say for example with a slaved drone, hint) the drone can use the same radar system to maintain a lock to prevent the missile that you fired from going pitbull. You don't need a vulnerable AWACS. You don't need to risk a human pilot to keep feeding the missile telemetry data. The Felon or Raptor or F35 or whatever, can go cold and defensive while the drone takes the interrogation heat. The Felon will have a disadvantage against an IR missile but a slight advantage in super-maneuverability. The biggest threat to the Felon's success is the Russian State. You can't build a Felon or an Amata with the same "loving neglect" you built a Lada.

Bigger than a city block, not stealthly, dressed up 3rd gen, to expensive to build, Larger than the Russian navy, ground forces, and air force, over estimated, made with plastic for the Pacific Ocean, plane can barely be held together because of its engines because those would shoot off through the plane because it’s made out of plastic and drywall screws.😂😂😂😂

Your right, the USA has borrowed so much money from the world markets it could make anything it wanted to. Here's the problem with that, the US is close to maxing out it's credit card, the markets will no longer buy US debt and accept close to zero interest rates they want much higher rates for doing so. If the US wants to continue their program of military and social spending then those rates will go a lot higher, would you be ok if interest rates went above 10% for example? Russia doesn't have a military that could compete with the USA and I think their view is they don't need to have one because the US military budget is not about defeating Russia in a war (never going to happen due to nukes) it's about projecting power and acting like an empire.

@@JagdgeschwaderX Technically, most of the US's debt is to itself, not the rest of the world. In fact, Britain finished paying off its WW2 debt to the US a few years ago. Besides, who else is trying to make sure everyone has equal access to ocean shipping lines. Also, Biden just keeps on spending money, thinking it doesn't exist, since he's basically a Marxist/socialist.

Except, there is no US 4+ aircraft that is even remotely close to the Su-57. It’s got superior engagement range, exceptional radar and superior spacial awareness (compared to any 4th gen), not to mention speed, maneuverability and EW-capabilities.

@@AlexandroneF Yet, no F-15 has been shoot down, nor as any Russian jet matches the F-16 in a dogfight. Now, it's a numbers game. Hundreds of even one type of fighter, compared to a handful of ones that want the hallmarks of US fifth gen platforms.

​@@AlexandroneF It's pretty clear that even russia knows that the Su57 isn't nearly as good as they claim. You're boasting that no 4th gen fighter is remotely close to it's capability, yet russia won't even use it to engage old Soviet relic MiG-29's that haven't been upgraded in 20 years. And Sukhoi themselves have stated that the RCS is between 0.1m² and 1m², which puts it in the same "stealth" category as gen4.5 fighters. It's nowhere near matching the stealth capability of the F-22 or F-35.

Forgot to mention the vertical stabilizers get removed on the stealth variants. Kinda important. Unless that's not publicly available knowledge yet, then ooops! 😳

Lets make this clear: much like the armata, the Su-57 isn't inherently bad. It would actually be quite good... if it wasn't being built in Russia...

Don't forget that it has 4th generation engines, it's production is stuck in the 90s which is bad for stealth, let's not forget sukhois own patent for the felon which states that the rcs 0.1 square meters, let's not forget the airframe and inlets. The straight intake is bad for stealth leading to higher rcs, and the first which in use does not have ram covering leading to higher rcs

i would actually like to see what the Russian aircraft industry would be capable of, if it got the funding and it's general act together. i think it could be a very interesting aircraft.

One thing I have to note about the data that you are using for the RCS stuff. The F-35 was not given RAM coatings as they did not know how it was applied. Also, all of these models, besides the Su-57 and J-20 were assumed to have a reflective coating.

This video is a great case study in wishful thinking. By the time the SU-57 is at the point of beating our 5th generation fighters, our 6th generation fighters will be operational.

It’s already at that point. The RCS numbers we know are the min values for f22 but average values for su57, hence the decent gap. In reality they are quite similar. Add on to the fact that the AL-51 engines are ALREADY being implemented into the jet (which the video was wrong about, saying that nothing is happening with them rn), this adds much more stealth and performance and really puts these jets on the same playing field

It isn't tho, the simple fact is only 10-15 of these things exist. meaning its not operational, you can spew paper numbers all day, but until you actually build the damn thing in bulk, it doesn't matter does it? 6th gen are suppose to be operational by 2030. Russia is a full generation behind in aircraft, and due to the ukraine war, they are going to have serious issues getting the materials they need to produce these in bulk while still trying to supply the insane waste of the war as putin seems perfectly fine throwing away both his equipment and hundreds of thousands of his men's lives for nothing more then his ego

​@Siduch. Irrelevant at this point, OPs point is still valid. America has flown the NGAD, and F-XX can probably flown now as well. F-22 is being upgraded as we speak.

I think the biggest question on everyone's minds is: DID they though?

This plane is more of an answer to the F-35 since that one is supposed to be part of an overall package where you would have the plane with a pilot, then 4-5 "drone" planes with it. I saw these plans over 15 years ago that Lockheed was promoting at military trade shows.

@@eu3127 Again, that’s according to the Russian claims. They have a history of exaggerating their forces - 1961 Tushino Air Show in Moscow, 1961 Paris Air Show, 1999 Moscow Air Show. It’s difficult to put much credence in Russian military claims. Let’s talk about their tanks or navy or hypersonic super missiles. Paper tiger.

The T-72 has more flight time than SU-57s.

Russia has one stealth aircraft that has hardly seen combat, the US has a ridiculous ampunt of option both manned and unmanned

It has the radar cross section of a f18.

So stealth that no one has ever seen it

There is several issues with this “stealth fighter” most of these issues were brought to light by the country most interested in it…….(India). This is because India was very interested in the SU-57 because of china developing their own stealth fighters. So India fronted a lot of the money for the project. However when given the chance to examine the aircraft and data associated with it they discover many problems with the development program. They discoverd that it wasn’t very stealthy. It didnt have the radar ability that it claimed, it didnt have the engines that it claimed. Russia couldn’t reach aircraft production quotas, They also couldn’t reach engine production quotas, it could not super cruise and couldn’t carry all of the weapons that it claimed.

@@pollo4744 i did my research on this about 3 years ago. This isn’t new information, India was already hesitant of doing this contract with Russia after their last fiasco with purchasing a decommissioned aircraft carrier from russia with a contract for Russia to refurbish and modernize it. There was huge delays and cost overruns. So bad that India almost pulled out of that deal as well. However with limited options for a stealth aircraft, this was pretty much indias only option at the time. Cost overruns, delays and false promises seems to be the standard with russian weapon platforms, as opposed to the exception.

@@pollo4744 I said this on other videos going back a few years. I did my research on this before it was even popular or common knowledge. To add to my point India was also weary of russia military business practices when they previously purchased a decommissioned russian aircraft carrier and had an agreement with russia to refurbish and modernize it. The cost overruns were extremely high and the projected delivery date kept getting pushed back for years until India threatened to pull out of other defense deals and Putin had to step in with the russian contractor and make them complete the deal. The russian firm kept asking for more and more money to complete the ship while never meeting delivery dates until they were ordered to do so by Putin.

The Al-51 is already in service with the latest serial production SU-57 take a look.

Its ideal air craft design. Whats missing is bigger rocket engine and some fancy electronics

The su57 has a radar cross section of a car (1-3M) to be exact. The F35 has a radar cross section of (0.01M or roughly a frisbee) the F22 has an rcs of a bumblebee(or 0.0001M)
