If Christian was ugly or at least average looking, it would’ve been a horrormovie of a creepy guy stalking the hot protagonist and he would end up in jail or dead.

It still is a male fantasy tho…bc it goes towards the male idea that society forced into us, (not only sexual, im talking about successful, rich, strong-willed that turns into manipulation, etc). It’s not bad, but is based on a male fantasy, indeed. If not, we can go with all the alpha male podcasters who feed into the exact same idea

@@greghannibal what i said is what i wrote. I didn’t say “men” forced anything. It was social work, both men and women had to be a part of it. And a lot of women would go feral for this concept, (as the numbers show) but not bc they love the idea of a men controlling everything in her life, but bc that is what we assume “makes a man”. OF COURSE is not like “oH mEn ArE tHe WoRsT” absolutely not, but it appeals to the men idea of control and success, and to the women idea that if he doesn’t “provide that” then he is not a man. There is a reason as to why most romance books are about toxic relationships, and now writers are desperate trying to change that mid-series. Am i explaining my point?

It’s just perspective and individual preference. Christian Gray is the literal walking caricature of a “manly” rich male. And Ana(?) is the stereotypical fem love interest who has no discernible personality other than revolving around said male. Those two character traits are the male gaze!

Are they supposed to be Bella and Edward, Anna was an OC paired with Edward, and the Fan girl was like screw Canon, screw Bella, my OC is better? Then altered it to make it her original story? I never actually got an answer to this I’ve been asking around for years. Because yes as horrible as twilight was, I don’t see how this would be a fanfiction because I can’t figure out the storyline who is supposed to be who. There's probably a few categories of people that watch this. Desperate women will probably like this, people who feel like they can never escape their current bad marriage due to their social/financial position so they escape into bad fiction or they're just lonely. Another group would be curious young people who just want to know about the adult life, this is the most dangerous group since they're influenced by what they watch a lot more. Finally there's men who will probably not read the book but they'll watch the movie for the power-play of dominance of the male lead towards the young female.

Stockholm syndrome and abuse at its finest. kzread.info/dash/bejne/qqZr2LmpfLydYtY.html Honestly, the world is kinda messed up. Edit: Just wanted to add to this conversation that kidnapping/forced marriage dramas are more popular in Asia which is probably because of the real human trafficking problem in Asia. Basically, this video portrayed a worry that real young women of poverty (lower-class) in Asia face every day. So it's problematic representation basically since it does normalise the events as well. Sure there's plenty of rich places in Asia that are very safe but that's definitely not the case everywhere.

Actually there is some possible science behind this, and it's why some people can't handle things like one-night stands. There are 3 phases/stages of love: Puppylove/attraction: Generally going off entirely by looks and some mild interaction, you are drawn to the person. This is what crushes generally are. Obsession stage: You don't see faults in this person, or very little, there is an us against the world sorta feel. This stage lasts 6 months to 3 years depending on the individual. It's brought about by intimate relations, not always sex, however orgasm is the most powerful causer of said stage. And then long term, this is the one people talk about when they say they want a relationship to last, and to grow old together. This one takes form after obsession stage has died down and you find the person you are with is someone you want to stay with. Obsession stage is the most volatile. It is what it says on the tin. Notice that many relationships or even marriages end in that time frame that obsession can last and why if you break up during that stage, it's near impossible to let go. Given that it's brought primarily through orgasm and sexual relations (though it can happen with any form of deep intimacy and bonding activities) lots of people can accidentally fall in love with a person they had sex with. This also seems predetermined by how hard you fall when you fall in love which is based on how much oxytocin and vassopressin your brain produces during said activities or in reaching orgasm. Basically some people can handle that because their brain doesn't respond with a head over heels rush of feel good love and bonding hormones. Others don't have a reduction and so fall hard and fast. And contrary to popular belief, this is not controllable. You can't choose to not fall in love. It's a response that is determined by your brains set up, not personal will. This is why someone can fall for someone that isn't right for them at all if they rush into intimacy right off the bat.
