What a wild round this was. We all thought Vidit was going to beat/draw Ian allowing Hikaru to either share the lead or be the sole lead but alas Nepo pulls through with a W. It’s still not over. Hikaru and Gukesh both a half point out of first and 3 rounds to go. Anything can happen.

Unfortunately, this stuff happens not only in sport but in life over and over, if you don't finish the job when you have the chance you will pay the price.

Bad day for Indian players. Vidit should have taken or rather gone for that drawing line with his knight attacking Nepo's bishop. That seemed forcing enough. Because at that stage he was in a very tough spot. That a pawn and Nepo's rook cemented on the b file. It was always going to be risky. In the end that pawn decided the game. Ofcourse the c pawn in reality but it happened because Vidit had to go grab the a pawn with his king. That was like a guaranteed loss, not sure why he did that.

50:00 So 'where are we in the Candidates', Tania? 11 games into a highly important tournament, dealing with yet more technical screwups and excuses from Chess[24], commentators left out to dry, viewers left with no moves at all coming in. And no cameras set up to see the boards clearly, even. Let's go back to hanging moves on giant boards (before digital 'upgrades'), which at least did _not_ lead to this type of screwup. I despise players who stall the beginning of the game like Vidit or Magnus. It is disrespectful and actually a form of intimidation that Carlsen started but at least he has the excuse of coming late and acclimating to the seat and getting his mind at peace by adjusting the pieces whereas the Indian is doing his little defiant passive agressive meditation after the clock starts when he was already sitting for 10 minutes and should have done his "meditation" then. Typical indian passive agression intimidation strategy.

Time is having far too big of an impact on too many games. I thought this was classical chess. There are other championships for shorter time formats.

Yeah, also having pieces on board is having a far too big of an impact on the games. Make it no timelimit and only kings on board so there are no elements left that make the game.
