Lyrics: Highlander
He was born in 1518
on the shores of Loch sheal
in Glennfinnan his destiny was sealed
Became the sole survivor
was banished and exiled
cause they couldn‘t kill what doesn‘t die
For he was a Highlander ohohoh
Highlander Ohohoh
Fight `till the last of us is gone
(There can only be one)
They called him the Highlander, Highlander, Highlander ohohoh let the immortals gather
Who wants to live forever?
Coming from the dawn of time they live many secret lives
a war for the fate of all mankind
To win the final battle
bring the Kurgan to his knees
he must fight with his faith, heart and steel
For he was a Highlander ohohoh
Highlander Ohohoh
Fight `till the last of us is gone
(There can only be one)
They called him the Highlander, Highlander, Highlander ohohoh let the immortals gather
Who wants to live forever?
It‘s better to burn than to fade
better to love than to hate
and fight `till the last of us is gone
(There can only be one)
They called him the Highlander, Highlander, Highlander ohohoh let the immortals gather
Who wants to live forever?

Such a great song and I prefer the english version as well, since the references to Highlander and Queen hit their mark even better! But no matter if they sing in german or english, Feuerschwanz KICKS ASS! My favourite german musical act (even before Rammstein, Electric Callboy and the Scorpions)! So much fun with every album they do! - Shoutout to Hauptmann, Hodi, Johanna, Hans, Rollo, Jarne and the two amazing stunt-Miezes Myu and Musch-Musch! 🥰

This is the first verse in comparison: German original: Geboren 1518 Am Ufer des Loch Sheal In Glennfinnan war das Leben noch ein Spiel Verwundet, doch genesen In der Schlacht mit Frasers Clan Verraten, verstoßen und verbannt Literal translation: Born in 1518 On the banks of Loch sheal At Glenfinnan life was still a game Wounded, but recovered In the battle with Fraser's clan Betrayed, rejected and banished English version: He was born in 1518 on the shores of Loch sheal in Glennfinnan his destiny was sealed Became the sole survivor was banished and exiled cause they couldn‘t kill what doesn‘t die

I bet ya Queen is scratching their heads going "Why didn't we think of this back when we did the soundtrack for Highlander?!"

I didn't imagine somebody would remember this movie. Funnily enough in Poland we got this translated to "Immortal" ( but nothing beats the most creative "translation" of Rowan Atkinson '97 "Bean" movie, that we happen to know as "John Bean: total cataclysm approaches" for years already) . Anyway i can't get enough of the folk metal bands.

Yep, they usually rewrite the lyrics completely, but not change the subject of the song. (Ben Metzner/Hodi did so for D'artagnan before). Edit: you just cannot go word by word. That works only in very few cases. (One example would be: "She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah" - "Sie liebt dich, yeah, yeah, yeah" by the Beatles, but even there, the stanzas were somewhat different.) As a translator and copy-editor for translated texts (English to German, and sometimes vice versa) , I can assure you that it's way easier to go from German to English than the other way round. For, as Antonio put it already: 3 words in English might take one sentence in German. If you have given stanzas, or a limited room for text, like in a prefabricated song, it is easier to go from long to short. If you have an English song - especially a more expressive one - and have to create German lyrics, you often either need to make the song longer or leave out some aspects. This is the reason why back in the day, when ppl in Germany knew hardly any other language and preferred German songs, there were German versions of international hits (not only English, but Italian, French and Spanish, too), sometimes sung by hapless original artists ony learning the words by sound - which told a completely different story than did the original. But fit perfectly with the melody. 🤣

As far as i know they just re-recorded the voices for this english release. The Music is exactly like the german versions. And as a german myself, i can say that they didn't tranlsate the lyrics like 1 to 1. The meaning is mostly thge same though.

hey say again: "FEUERSCHWANZ"..😅😂🎉😅 ...and the fact that German doesn't work internationally as a language in music, is due to the arrogance of the countries in question..
