FES - Morocco's GRAND Imperial City! Travel Vlog

In this travel vlog I'll show you the real Fes (or Fez). The grandest of Morocco's grand imperial cities is known as the country’s cultural capital. The Fes El Bali walled medina is largest Islamic medieval city in the world, where life goes on mostly as it has for hundreds of years.
Even the "new", or middle city - Fes El Jdid, dates to around the 13th century!
I'll show you not just the sights of the Fes El Bali medina such as the famous Tannery Sidi Moussa, but also around the streets and day to day life. The greatest joy of the medina is not an individual sight, it's simply walking around, getting lost and taking it all in.
In Fes El Jdid we'll walk around both the Islamic and Jewish sides, seeing another Fes medina and the wonderful differences that exist in this part of the city.

I visited Morocco last month and visited Tangier (Tanja for me, of course), Rabat, Casablanca, Essaouira, Agadir, Marrakech, Tetouan, Samir Marina and Chefchaoun. What I missed was Fez and Meknas so next time. So your video is really enticing me to visit ASAP.What I found amazing was the clean street food as it does not cause any health issues. I wish to go there every month actually.

Excellent video Chris. Really enjoyed it. We are looking forward to visiting in April and this will be so useful! I had a quick question please, where exactly is the colourful district of The Arab Muslim area please? It starts round the 14:17 mark of the video where at some point you show a bird with a Fes in Fes.😊We would love to visit these narrow streets and was wondering if you had a nearest landmark that we could point to in our map. Do you reckon we’ll be ok to walk around this area without a guide? We already have a planned guided tour for the main Medina. Thanks in advance and keep up the good work!

Thanks and no problem! The area you're looking for is the mid-town - Fes El Jdid. Look for Semmarin Medina Gate on Google Maps. There's Quartier Moulay Abdallah, Mellah (Jewish district) and the royal palace. All a fairly easy walk from the medina and I did it solo without a guide. There's not as much hastle around there as in the old medina.

Such lame comments after the video, one saying Google map doesn’t work and asking how to get around. Why not just get lost? Or asking him how many days they should spend in Fes. These commenters are feckless. Aside from that, a good video and Fez is one of the best places in Morocco. The walls and cemetery outside of them magnificent. And the city park he showed- 1975, Marci and I waiting there under a full moon to head towards the desert at midnight. He fails to mention in comments about the Mellah, the Jewish quarter, that there ain’t any Jews left. Maybe a few. All left since the Arab-Israeli wars.

Here a little info guys ! Do you actually know why the streets are so narrow in the madina’s !! The reason is that in the old times if the city was under attack the invaders couldn’t fully charge with the solders and have too fight and the rest have to wait in line for there turn to fight and that is after you breached the wall that coast half the man and bye the time you would take the medina you have no solders or defender’s left . Like modern nuclear war attack is Equal to suicide
