Depends on the amount of turns, if there's traffic,... the m5 could beat the ferrari if constant breaking and accelerating is needed ie mountain road. In the other hand the ferrari is superior in long straight lines when it should be superior everywhere due to engine size and hp

@@JackSmith-tj1if Yeah don't see that happening, although it could be close. If you look at their times on tracks they've both set times on (the autocar dry handling track, eurospeedway lauswitz, the nurburgring) the 812 beats the cs on all of them, although the margins are pretty small

More torque and 4wd is better of the line. More horsepower and rwd is better for higher speeds. Nothing surprising here. Both cars are amazing though.

It’s the M5 for me any day when you look at the pull away speed and traction of the M5 and the fact it’s actually a 4 door saloon that has quite good fuel economy it’s a win for me, but I guess it depends on what your looking for in a car

2 years late - the M5 is a car. The 812 is a work of art - the looks, the sound, the novelty, prestige, raw feeling, NA engine… if anyone had a choice to be given one, they would be crazy if they took the BMW

You have to be impressed with the M5. Off the line and brake tests. And it’s a 4 door saloon. Best M5 ever.

@@henzo7087 The BMW is Twin Turbo the Ferrari is NA also BMW laid about their HP numbers that CS definitely have more HP the Ferrari was straggling from zero in this surface the Ferrari could do 10.5sec or under it in 1/4 mile

it cost at least double (or more), lighter, more powerful, and it's a ferrari, a real supercar, designed to go as fast as possible. The other car is a mass-produced sedan, with tweaks.

Two thoughts on the half mile 1) New word from Matt "Losage or Loseage" and 2) at the end of the half mile the camera was having difficulty focusing on the Ferarri in the foreground and the distant Beemer way in the background. I love both of these. Literally two of my favorite cars.

The M5 CS is seriously impressive for a family mall cruiser. This is the type of car men with a family get. It's comfortable and safe for the family but it can also turn into a freaking speed monster when you want to have some fun.

@@Bertha076 lol yes it is tf? I have 4 friends that are M5 owners ranging from 2018+ lol they are fantastic. One of my friends dad has one just not a CS. I love my 5 series. My best friends dad has an M550xi he got after trading in his 300s with extra cash. What are you talking about? LOL they are fantastic cars. Much better then RS cars and I like them more than AMG’s personally. ESPECIALLY if we’re talking M3 vs C63 I’d take an M3 ANYDAY for daily drivability. I’m taking a WILD guess you don’t own a bmw, never have, nor have you sat in one. Never heard anyone say a BMW isn’t comfortable and I’m not even a fanboy as we own two Porsche’s and if anytime I am team Porsche when it comes to any car brand. They are the PERFECT blend of comfort, luxury, sporty, Incredibly reliable one of ours has over 250k miles currently with the other around 50-60k, and my favorite part is how well they age and retain their value. Bentley is next, but other than that BMW is realistically next imo, then Mercedes, followed by Audi. Even friends who own a benz and Audi can agree lol BMW is about kind of always taking a more sporty edge while Mercedes is about being more laid back and wafty. Audi is sports like very much, but it just doesn’t feel that right idk it’s kind of like you wish they did one or the other. Something like the R8 is perfect though my gf’s next door neighbor had one before getting a C8 and a GT4 Cayman. Idk it’s just funny AF to me when I see people like you who Ik have no experience with such vehicles yet you like to trash aspects of them or the brand in many cases🤣🤣🤣🤣 I’m guessing you drive a Bentley as your daily?😂🤣🤣💀 You don’t possibly think the 812 is more comfortable than the M5 just because one says Ferrari right even though their interior (looks sporty) comfort is EH? I prefer the 2022 Cadillac CT5-V blackwing wihich has a 6 speed manual transmission and 10 speed automatic transmission option. Plus, it has 668hp. Yes, it's rwd tho.

The brake test was super impressive but the 1/4 isn’t. We know it’s a low grip surface that CarWOW runs on and all powerful RWD cars always do awful 1/4 times here. In this context any AWD car has a huge advantage here however when the 812 gets on the move, it makes the M5 look like it’s parked up, the difference is astonishingly big which I hadn’t expected. I thought the 812 would get away given practically equal weight and ~160bhp extra but it didn’t just get away it disappeared. Still the M5 is an amazing car but it’s bonkers that it costs £141k standard and the CarWOW car costs £180k…… has everyone lost their minds?

Turbo and airflow upgrade on the bm should fix the power lack for rolling race😄

That 6.5-L V12 just rips and it sounds so freaking good~~ I mean the 4.4-L V8 in the M5 CS is still amazing, and Ferrari and BMW both make good engines, but that V12 is just something special.

This drag race is suspicious to say the least. The best time 812 had was 10.4 in 812 vs svj vs turbo s video. Idk if this is made pretty even on purpose.

I wanna see 2022 Cadillac CT5-V blackwing vs M5 CS roll race!! The Cadillac CT5-V has both a 6 speed manual and 10 speed automatic transmission option. The videos of it on KZread they always race the manual version instead of the 10 speed automatic version.

Taking an 812 on the autobahn followed by laps of the ring would be petrol head heaven. What an engine. Just insane

That impression of the m5 exhaust was great 😂

Lets remember this car has 4 doors and 4 seats with a V8. Very impressed with the results.

That V12 sound is something else, nothing comes close to that :) But the M5 is just too damn impressive..

The thing is you expect these kind of performances and numbers from a Ferrari. You even demand it for that price. You don't expect an M5 to give a 812 a run for it's money like that. BMW has made one impressive beast.

I dont know, I expected the grip advantage for bmw to give even more results, so I would say the other way around honestly. Power/weight is king with enough grip after all, and I would expect most people to know an M5 is pretty good in that deparment.

@@morepanicboy7120 Check what looks lilke raindrops on the window though. Just slightly compromised grip easily costs .5 seconds when you are trying to put down 800hp with RWD.

If the Bimmer was the same weight as that Ferrari than it have been a much different story as we can see in the first drag race. Never mind if it have had that amount of power

If Ferrari had four-wheel drive, it would be a different story. And if they both raced against Sperling, they'd both be stuck like shit in a wheel. And if the cows were flying etc.

The M5 CS is absolutely insane! BMW has build a Saloon Family-Car with many daily driver qualities, which keeps up with high-end supercars. Thats just amazing. But i would still take the Ferrari if I could. N/a V12 with 6.5 L and 800 HP... This seems to be from another world. It must be so fun to drive. And I could listen to this sound 24/7. I want to have both of these cars :D

For a daily/longer journey and family car I'd take the M5..it fills 3/4 of my heart as it is But for the other 1/4...which isn't complete without something special...that Ferrari or some killer Lambo would have to be there somewhere.

@@stevem2323 We are saying the BMW is faster off the line, and you say I forgot the 800hp thing? At most it puts the comparison even more in prospective, saying that what makes the BMW so fast off the line is the traction, and horsepower is totally pointless in the first meters

U guys should have a drone for the drag race if It gets really close again, just a suggestion

you need to do a m5 cs vs. a gtc4 lusso.... this will be a better comparison.... also I am pretty sure the 812 could take the m5 cs on the 0 to 60 launch..... especially if you leveled the playing field and did the m5 cs launch on rear-wheel drive mode...

Good job! I Would give another back-to-back go for a second brake test, it potentially could deliver a different outcome given those circuit oriented brakes performs way better under heat load

Never thought of a Ferrari 812 but the way he catched up was so amazing! What a race!

Another tremendous drag race, Mat! The BMW’s victory shows the advantage of 4WD (especially if the launch control is working properly, and/or if the track conditions put RWD at an inherent disadvantage). It would be interesting to know what speed each car was doing when it crossed the quarter mile line - I’d bet the Ferrari was moving more quickly. An extra acceleration test from a pootling dawdle (5-10mph, say) to full beans might also be instructive… (If I’m not mistaken, across the pond they sort of ignore the first split second of acceleration, possibly to take wheel slip out of the equation? Although with some of their more lairy muscle cars there’s such preposterous wheelspin in the first two or three gears that the point become moot.) And while I’m at it, Mat, would you consider including the 0-100 mph times, not necessarily in your drag races but rather in your acceleration tests? There are so many cars nowadays that are in the same ballpark when it comes to 0-60 mph that it’s not until higher speeds that you start to see separation and get an picture of rapid vs properly quick. Thank you!

I wish BMW made a purpose-built super car just as a fun side project. Something that draws its design from the M1. They already have the powertrain and the engineering to accomplish that so it shouldn’t be hard to do, surely.

Under normal conditions, the 812 could have done the quarter mile in approx. 10.5 seconds.

@@Ibnhlal4cars true, but the CS is awd and has more torque which aids in its acceleration. the 812 is RWD with more power but still manages to do a 10.4s 1/4 mile. Their trap speeds are also much different too, the CS will trap no more than 130mph while the 812 will trap close to 140. Two different leagues

@@Ibnhlal4cars 150 hp extra (812 has 789 hp) is why it caught up so quickly to the bmw before the quarter mile. but dont forget that the bmw has awd vs the ferrari's rwd so it can lay the power down better and faster off the line. conditions werent perfect either which is bad news for an almost 800 hp rwd car. also dont forget that the bmw has more torque which helps in accelaration. The 812 is so impressive

The 812 is a creature from another dimension. Coming from a bmw devotee, I wasn't expecting the 812 to teleport away in the rolling race, which was unfair to the m5 cs.

You have to give some credit to BMW for making a comfortable 4 door sedan/saloon that can give full on supercars a run for their money

The start is essential and the Ferrari driver was unable to get a good start at all. I wouldn't consider a valid race, but it doesn't matter. Thank you for sharing Mat! Appreciated.
