    What I want the very most is affordable temperature control of fermentation and storage of the beer. I have a Brewzilla and a Fermzilla and I brewed some great beers until the summer started here in NZ. From what I can taste, It seems like it wouldn't need more than a mild heating element in the winter, or a mild cooling effect in the summer to make a pretty big difference, just keep the beer in my Fermzilla in a sensible range. Maybe thermoelectric cooling might still be a goer for people like me? Glycol chillers seem pretty pricey.

    I just bought a 55 Lt fermentor this new generation with the lid which has a TC-2". After installing the twister heat exchanger (it goes inclined), I tried to install the thermowell. It is then when I realized it was going to be a challenge... I had to bend the thermowell to avoid an evident interference with the heat exchanger, but the worst part is when I tried to put the nut that comes with the duo tight bulkhead...it is just impossible.... I had to scrap the lid. I strongly suggest you to assemble all the parts and accessories for these fermenters before launching them to the market... My suggestion: Make room for the nut of the thermowell duo tight bulkhead.

    One of the nice features of the Fermzilla (and All Rounder) has been the ability to see what’s going on during fermentation. With a stainless steel version coming out, it would seem this benefit would be eliminated unless you were to remove the lid. Obviously, one can keep track of fermentation via a RAPT pill, or Tilt, but it’s not quite the same as tracking visually. Will the SS Fermzilla design include a large tri-lamp opening (for adding hops, etc) similar in size to the current Fermzilla, with an option to add a ‘see through’ plastic insert that would still be capable of maintaining the pressure rating of the unit?

    Looks much improved. Your getting there. You should have changed the top access to a 4 inch tri-clamp as well and eliminated that screw on top. Then you could make a plastic 4inch tri-clamp pressure lid or simply offer the stainless lid from the kegmenter. • @fifis101

    I thought the exact same thing. Apparently the limitation was the force on the large sized lid and a screw on lid was much stronger. You have to remeber the seal itself hasnothing to do with the the thread. It's a radial o-ring seal, the thread just holds the lid in place.

  • @KegLand

    @KegLand

    2 жыл бұрын

    It's simply not possible to make the neck of the FermZilla from PET and make is strong enough to hold pressure with the large 4" opening. So we are unable to do this at this stage. Threads have larger engagment area making it easier to meet the required tensile strength as we can use more revolutions of thread to increase strength while with tri-clover you only have one rim. We have been able to achieve this in 3" TC but this is too small to get your are inside to clean

    If you are not fermenting under pressure then you can either use a syphon to empty the fermenter or alternatively you can use one of the PCO1881 ports on the collection container to gravity feed out of the fermenter. really it's best to just use under pressure as this is how the vessel has been designed.

    Bought a 27L FZ but quickly found I don’t use the dump valve, I don’t collect yeast for re-use and I add hops from the top - in fact the only use for the trub jar is to inject CO2 to maintain a positive pressure whilst dry hopping from the top. Also upgraded to a 55L FZ tank because high Krausen would gum-up my spunding valve on the 27L version. So since I only make 19L batches (i.e. one Corny kegs worth) what I’d like please is a 35L (for Krausen head room) all rounder with hop bong attachment - This would be perfect. Also is there enough room in the tri-clamp version of the lid to fit a thermowell? Cheeers.

  • @KegLand

    @@KegLand interesting. I suppose it depends on methodology, I like the flavour of whole hops but they absorb much more beer so I need at least 24/25L in the Fermzilla to get 19L in the keg this plus not fermenting under pressure for the first 3/4 days tended to push the krausen into the spunding valve hence the upgrade to a 55L tank which is a bit too big really. Anyway, your kit is great and your continuous innovation fantastic. Just get the new stuff to the UK asap please😃

    Does the inevitable increase in pH with pressure fermentation affect any components of the beer (not just hops)? While fermenting, that is! Awesome advance though. I might have to finally upgrade from my circa 1999 Coopers bucket fermenter.

  • @KegLand

    Yes. The carbonic acid formed by dissoved CO2 in the beer does effect flavour. With that said even without a pressure fermenter you normally carbonate in the bottle or later in the beer making process. The final ph would be the same.

  • @KegLand

    @KegLand

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@PetraKann Yes slightly. As you would know when you ferment under pressure CO2 dissolves into soulution forming a weak hydrogen bond with the water and forming carbonic acid. Carbonic acid is a weak acid and will lower pH slightly more. If you want to have carbonated beer this additional acidity is unavoidable.

    @@KegLand Thanks for that. It's also temperature related. The earth's oceans can absorb more CO2 at lower temperature. So as the oceans warm the CO2 saturation concentration lowers so CO2 is released or the ocean's capacity to act as a Carbon sink decreases. One of those dreaded positive feedback loops that get worse as the ocean temperature increases. Beer is related to Global Warming in more ways than one....

    Can I fit the Tri clover lid on my existing allrounder for dry hopping quality of life as well? or is it a different size? I have also heard that ideally, you want the hops at the bottom, so the oils move up through the liquid to the surface, rather than just floating on top. Hi Jason. In my experience, the hops sink to the bottom under pressure. I usually release the pressure at least once during the dry hop contact time to bring the hops back up from the bottom and in to suspension, before letting them settle out again at the end. That's the beauty of being able to see what's happening inside. 👌

    The only thing I dont like about these conicals is the "use by date" - at least with respect to pressurised fermentation. I assume that you can continue using these conical fermenters past their safety use by date, without pressure. I also notice that the bottom collection vessel rests directly onto the table and that you needed to lift the fermenter slightly in order to remove the container. With a full fermenter I can see some issues with doing this easily and there is added stress placed on the tri-clover connections
