    Awesome you should mention that as I was wondering if anyone does that... I was going to order one of their kits just to do a video on it and test it out as I have a 10 gallon Anvil kettle that would work well plus I figured if I added a heating pad, I could do sours this way too.

    Thank you and you are actually getting to see why I like it so much. As for the Tilt, I swear by them as you probably know but if you do a pressure fermentation it can be really frustrating as the readings will be off based on how much pressure and the eventual carbonation.

    Nice! Did you get the new version? Not sure if it is available everywhere, especially the U.S. but both versions are very nice. I keep getting the itchy trigger finger for one but never pull the trigger. The key is that you could do some yeast washing easily but must be aware to always purge the bottom part if you go to reconnect it to avoid adding O2 back into the fermenter. Plus the fermenter is a bit large and I won't personally have space for something like that until my house is finished in a few months. Please let me know how you first fermentation goes? Pros and Cons! I will most likely eventually get one and do a few videos on it. Thank you.

  • @BitterRealityBrewing

    I wonder if the pressure test date" is just a CYA type time and date stamp for them to cover themselves which I understand as nothing lasts forever. I'd think just replacing the rubber seal would be one of the only wearing parts minus the plastic caps which the threads couldn't get worn out a bit over time.

    A while back I sold one of my fastferment conical with a brew jacket and picked up two AllRounders and still had spare change. Like you one is decked out with the chiller. Over my 40 years of brewing I have had many fermenters and have to say these are my favorites. After first setup you should check for leaks. One of mine had a leak at the lid o-ring. Had to remove some casting flash and all is fine now. Wish the thermal well was a bit larger because the large inkbird probe is hard to insert. Was thinking of getting the jacket but good thing I watched this - it has no bottom!

  • @BitterRealityBrewing

    @BitterRealityBrewing

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yeah I have two spare Inkbirds and one has the larger probe which I was concerned about but haven't had a chance to try it as I think it is in storage (working to get a new house built). As for the bottom or lack of bottom I would agree that is a bit of a downer and it does have a draw string to tighten it up but I'm concerned it won't close completely so I would have to ensure I have something under it to help trap the cooling or heat.

    Watch the pressure and test the spunding valve as one of mine was off by 2.5 psi but I only recently discovered this issue. I'm also thinking if you let the pressure ramp up too high it could slow or stop fermentation as I had an issue with that recently also and will have to conduct some tests to see if this is true or if it was just the yeast giving up early.

The wrench looks like a product I'll end up with anyway

  • @BitterRealityBrewing

    I did do a "kind of" side-by-side comparison with the All Rounder vs the Anvil SS Crucible Conical. The All rounder was 2 F warmer sitting side by side as the SS seemed to allow better cooling from the A/C as both were sitting on the floor in my studio area. The Conical at 2F and no pressure took almost a full week to finish fermenting and actually fermented slightly drier with a lower FG. It was when I did the "lift" test with the Anvil foundries.

    I love my All Rounder - mainly for closed loop transfers to a keg (using a gas to gas line and a beer to beer line). However, the thermowell Doutight thread is too short to connect securely to the nut and it can drop into your brew. Plus, the stainless caps can damage the lid if connected too tightly and I highly recommend using a red plastic cap for gas and get a yellow one for the beer connection. It’s way to easy to connect the spunding valve to the wrong cap and have have beer gushing out. Lastly, I put all the plastic components in the dishwasher after every brew and replace the dip tube after every 2 in order to avoid infections.

    I almost got an All Rounder but settled on a stainless steel bucket fermenter instead. It was a hard decision but I’m sure I would have been happy with either one. 🍻

    They are both awesome as the SS bucket is easy to clean and has a spigot while the all rounder is inexpensive (relatively speaking) and is great for pressure aka precarbonating your fermentations.

    Hi Mike. Doing my first brew with a Tilt and have the data linked to google sheets. Interesting to watch the SG over time, especially the SG trend line as it tends to fluctuate quite a bit and hard to trust a single data point. The Tilt wrench looks handy, had no idea they were difficult to open for a battery change. As far as the All Rounder, I use a big mouth with a thermo-well now in a small dorm type frig and have been holding back on getting the All Rounder because it will not fit in my frig. I'd be interested to see a picture and list of components that you use to control the fermentation temperature as you mentioned ice packs and a controller. Are you using a pump to circulate the cold water through the immersion chiller? Thanks for posting great reviews.

    The tilts are pretty accurate but they do bounce up and down a bit during fermentation plus if your fermentation goes a bit nuts, there can be a large amount of trub left on top of the tilt which can mess up the readings. An overtime is the best way to look at it and I only usually check my fermentation once a day with the exception of the first 48 hours as I like to see things kick off sooner than later. As for my cooling setup at the moment I just have a very large fementation chamber that I built a while ago and I think it has made a couple showings in a at least a video or two but it is 42" W x 42" L x 37" H and the inside is 40"x40"x35" as it is insulated with 2" of insulating foam boarding throughout with the interlocking doors on top to make a good seal. And of course a dorm fridge shoved inside to the back left of it reducing the overall floor space a little. It works amazingly well for Ales but anything below 58 F and the dorm fridge starts to overheat. So I will be looking (very soon) to running some poor man cooling setup by using a cooler (I may try a Styrofoam one first to keep my costs down for the test) to see how low and how consistent I can keep the temps with an inkbird, the coil, and some ice water. My biggest concern is how long I can run it efficiently without having to swap out the ice packs as that could be a good or bad thing versus running a glycol system through an actual chiller or a fridge/freezer setup.

    I was going to get two all rounder setups for primary and secondary but after a lot of thought I plan to start out with the canonical Fermzilla and then add on an all rounder to be used for secondary. I cannot wait to dive into this hobby just a bit longer before I purchase the Anvil Foundry 10.5 and the Fermzilla Canonical to get started :) I have never used one of those tilt devices but would love to try one out at some point, if I find they are worth it I will buy one :) Now I just need to find other brewers in the area to let me try one hahaha

  • @BitterRealityBrewing

    @BitterRealityBrewing

    2 жыл бұрын

    Love the idea of borrowing one to try it out first. If you start kegging, consider that for a secondary as it is really probably the best for a secondary when needed. As for the tilt I will say the first one ever got many years back gave me a temp reading of 5000 F in water that was 68 F!!! I reached out to tilt and they sent me a replacement plus the tilt wrench. Since then I would say almost all of my newer tilts have been dead on with gravity readings and temps rarely needing any calibrations.

    all rounder : what is your opinion on the 60L fermzilla?

  • @BitterRealityBrewing

    @BitterRealityBrewing

    2 жыл бұрын

    I would expect the same great quality but for me that is a lot of beer and at 60L of available space the weight when full could be a major concern. 8.3 lbs per gallon meaning you might want to leave the fermenter in place and bring everything to it. 5 gal = 42.7 lbs (heavy for me), 10 gal = 85.4 lbs and so on. I will say the 60L is a great value as the all rounder had the largest price spike from what I've seen in comparison to all the others. Even the conical didn't go up compared to the increase on the All Rounder. Sadly everything seems to be a bit more expensive lately and I doubt most things will ever go back down to the old pricing. I've been doing a lot of split batches lately which allows me to do 6 gallons and produce 2 - 3 gallon batches with variations. If I were doing 10 gallon batches I'd cut them into 2 - 5 gallons and at minimum pitch 2 different yeasts.
