Nice preference for stock on those old items👍. Awesome job on that neck too! The only thing that’s changed in Fender is, the worse their quality gets, the blinder their fan base gets. Nice work on that nut.

Yeah no kidding eh? Guitar building should be miles ahead in 2024 when compared to the 80s but sadly it's not🤔🤨🙄

J,whats up bud! You're right Fender USA and Mexico have the worst fretjobs in the business. On the other hand I scored a Fender American Pro II Strat in Miami Blue for half price because it had a fretjob that looked like my 16 year old niece did it so I don't know how to feel now. They helped me out big time. Lol

That guitar could very well be made in the same factory as the Charvel you showed a few videos ago. They come from the same time frame.

Looking pretty darned good so far, J-MAN!!!!! I look forward to seeing the final result. I’m somewhat surprised by some of the components. I’m NOT surprised somehow that the neck has a 7.25” radius though-I don’t think Fender changed to the 9.5” radius until about 1983, if memory serves me right. MANY things changed around the mid 1980’s, since CBS sold off Fender in 1985, and the deal did NOT include the original manufacturing facilities in Fullerton, so Fender had to rely on leftover CBS inventory and imports from Fender Japan to fulfill virtually all of their orders while they rebuilt their manufacturing from scratch in Corona, California, with facilities that were nowhere near as big as their original facilities in Fullerton.

As we know, the mid 1980’s was the beginning of a new era for both Fender AND Gibson (who similarly got sold off from Norlin in 1986 and had their factory moved roughly around this time from Kalamazoo, Michigan to Nashville, Tennessee). It was also around this time that Heritage Guitars and G&L were founded. It could be said that both Heritage and G&L kind of represent attempts to maintain the original heritage of Gibson and Fender. I would argue that neither are really succeeding, although some might disagree.

Yeah I was expecting to find alnico pickups in there and not ceramic, full sized pots which there were, and a real blade switch instead of a plastic box switch... However this box switch feels very stable and precise...

@@j-man9457 My thoughts exactly! I wonder if some of the parts may have been replaced over the years. The switch may be a box switch, but it’s clearly NOT like the cheap, chintzy-feeling box switches that are standard issue on virtually all Asian-made guitars nowadays, so maybe it is a genuine original Japanese part, but I’m not sure… I think I’d probably leave those parts for the moment, unless they’re giving trouble.

What’s changed since the 80’s? Nothing at all. Japanese Fenders have always been and still are of much higher quality than USA Fenders.

Do they still make Japanese Fenders? I thought I read somewhere it was only for a brief time as they moved their production there after the plant in the USA had caught fire... 🤔 But yeah I agree 👍

They do. A Fender rep told me that Fender affiliated stores on North America aren’t allowed to sell them here. There are stores in Vancouver with no Fender USA contracts that do though. I’ll text you their website.

Don't be like the rest of the clowns by destroying the patina of the guitar, its earned it. Clean it, by all means, do a good set up, but that's about it. Forget the black bits. NO BLING GARBAGE!!!
