I like these group conversations. There is so much to learn. Not always just about how to do things but sometimes just how people feel about things is helpful. 😆

Wow, inspiring!
Love all of these types of videos. They are so helpful. I would have started this lifestyle already but can not figure out how to support myself on the road!!! I wish there were more of these ideas out there. Seems unless you already have the money coming in, this lifestyle just isn't feasible.

I’m puzzling over this too. Many people have social security, pension, savings… others are artists who sell their work along the way, others obviously do remote work on their laptops; and there’s also seasonal work that many nomads depend on, at least to supplement any money they might already have.

It is helpful, Inwould.go so far as to say necessary, to already have income coming in before living on the road for sure. Should you have a mechanical problem on the road you may have to rent another vehicle or book a hotel. You never know. It can really be stressful if you don't have adequate funds available to take care of these unexpected expenses.
I flew in for the RTR with just my personal item. I thrifted and dollar tree’d the bulk of my setup. The family Dollar and dollar greneral in Quartzsite rounded things out. I then blessed most of the items to my Cali van gal & travel grandma campfire buddies before I flew home. I thrifted an extra piece of luggage & paid the fees to get a thrifted down sleeping bag and a few other goodies home. Part-time travel in a rental car Nissan Sentra) is possible. As you all say, use what you have…just get out there!!! 😘

This is the type of activity that I hoped to run into when I was there. I wanted to sit around with like minded people and talk about van life and van builds. Most of the people I ran into were people that were staying in Quartzite during the winter time. They were just living and weren't really interested in talking. 😥 I enjoyed hearing their stories. Like a couple of them, I started out with a smaller van and moved to a larger van. I have changed the layout and design many times until I have what I have now.

Too bad you didn't run into us. I do find that at many of the campfires that go on in the evenings there is a lot of conversation about van life, builds, etc. Next time.you will have to roll with us. LoL We are always talking about ways to improve.our vans and sharing experiences with each other. I will at some point do more Glow Lives going over these topics. There are.also some videos coming up that will go over interesting build ideas.

Would like to hear. More about the bad sides of vanlife, all you hear is the upbeat happy life, there got to be badsides of van life , bugs, mice, breakdowns, van issues, health issues, pet issues, power, cleaning, Life in general, it can all be a happy life

I will definitely do a video addressing these issues in the future. Thr main issues I have found as being a oart-timer, over 100k miles in 5 years, is the harsh rules and limitations for parking in many areas. Also, it a person does not build a community of friends it can be a very lonely existence. Kind of like the folks who talk about being military kids having gone to a dozen schools and never making long lasting friendship. Being a nomad can be like that on steroids. It takes being intentional if you are going to develop friendships and build a community on the road.
Great interview!!!

On the cost question: at the 6-month mark, Ive figured that it’s about even between living in my van and what it would cost in subsidized senior housing in a cheaper market than the SF Bay Area. BUT, if I’m not careful, I can still spend as much on coffee and fast food while I travel as I used to on coffee shops and random stuff that wasn’t truly necessary. I can control gas and food (main costs), waste less, and I avoid camping fees to keep costs down. Hecka lot more fun in a van, though!

I intend to get a metal shelf because it's light and strong. I saw a lady use plastic trellis for the bed base. That's awesome?!! A true no build. Crates with zipper bags to store things under the bed. I def would paint the inside and get a truck liner to help those bumps. Has anyone used cedar shingles to level the floor?

It is a lot to take in for sure. But it gets easier. The best advice I think of all is to meet people and firm friendships with other nomads. That is invaluable both emotionally and for learning the ropes as well.

I heard a really good idea from Knowmad Your Nomad…at that is if you are near town let the stores there be your pantry…don’t buy a bunch of food. Just go to the store to buy fresh as needed. Of course when I was out last year in a Class C that sucked up gasoline, driving into town was quite expensive.
Great video thanks to you all 👏👏👏👏👏

Home On Wheels Alliance (HOWA) has ladies' caravans. You might check their website to find out about when they are active. Also, they have a virtual meetup every week, and a site called We Camp Together. You will of course need to do your do diligence, but you might meet someone thru those sources. Also, there are many van meetups you could attend where you can meet people and of course in Quartzsite during the winter season. Lastly, many van life folks have KZread channels and LIVES where you could encounter some nice people. I would advise you to try this lifestyle out on weekends and short trips to see if it is really for you. Good luck.
Hey Carol I have been staying out here in quartzite for a couple months because I am trying to be low budget 😁 and as a newbie I am wondering where I can go when it gets hot for long term camping can y you do a video helping us to find some good spots Thank you so much

How far away from Quartzite is the nearest medical facility, urgent care, primary care doctor's office. ? Dentist ? These facilities are a requirement for anyone, but especially elder folks who still enjoy living close to Mother Nature.

There us a family health clinic in Quartzsite and therr are alsonseveral doctors in Quartzsite. Thr closest hospitals would be Parker, about 35 miles or a.medical.facility in Blythe California about 25 miles.

The Rubber Tramp Rendevous and Women's Rubber Tramp Rendevous. A nomad gathering of folks living part-time or full-time in, traveling in, or just thinking about camping or living in every kind io vehicle imaginable from cars, rvs, trailers, vans you name it. Happens in Quartzsite, Arizona every January.
What about van insurance and health insurance. How much is van insurance ?
@gloriouslifeonwheels3621
4 ай бұрын
That is hard to answer as it depends on the value of the rig you are insuring, if you are insuring a pull or tow vehicle too, if you are getting full coverage or just liability etc. I know people who have insurance costs from about $40 month to $230 month with multiple vehicles
I'm curious, does auto insurance change when you become a nomad? Nobody mentioned this as an expense
@libbygardner3021
5 ай бұрын
Mine may change based on mileage, but not much. Unfortunately, I lost the renters insurance that would have covered my belongings, as I am based in California and my insurance company is no longer doing new house or renters policies.
