I’ve spent the last 3/4 years in disaster/overwhelm- my Mum was diagnosed with Alzheimers and passed last year, left my 34 year relationship, moved house and am now caring for my elderly Dad plus working full time- it doesn’t feel temporary, it just feels hard. It’s also hard as things fall away to get out of that feeling that everything is out of control because you are so used to living in this hyped up way. Just leaving to demo my Dads bathroom as we need to make it accessible for him within 4 weeks. I need a holiday!

I have lifestyle overwhelm. I'm in my 50's, in a career where if I don't work I don't get paid, I'm single and everything is on me. I am usually an overachiever but the past 6 months I feel burnt out. I'm in freeze mode. I sit in my house and see How much I need to do, and don't do anything. Ugh! Thank you for the podcast. I needed to hear this

so your already have your answer; youve CHOSEN to be an overachiever. ask yourself WHY? to prove yourself worthy? to who? WHY do u feel UNworthy in a normal (non overachiever) state? someone foisting you into that role? distance yourself from them, limit your contact with them, take time for YOURSELF....say NO to pple asking u for your time, your money, your effort, your energy...u DONT need to provide excuses beyond, thats not in my schedule, no time in my schedule. then if they complain, think/hint to them SCREW YOU!

I had to check the user name to make sure this wasn't my comment, bc it so perfectly described my life. But then guess what, breast cancer gets thrown into the mix last Fall. Had the surgery this week. It changed my perspective a lot. I'm slowly peeling off the perfectionism and overachiever and taking on too much by myself. When I first got the call about the cancer, I thought, "If this is the last year of my life, is THIS how I want to spend those days?" I'm trying to keep that in mind as I refocus my priorities. I wish you the best... ❤

This has been a challenging year for myself and my family. My sister in law's mother passed away in January after a battle with liver cancer, she lost her banking job, my brother and his wife are divorcing due to the wife's infidelity, my husband told me he no longer has feelings for me, found out that a close friend is sick. At the end of the day, we have to face these challenges and not let them pull us down.

I am a caregiver for my 92 year old mom. Now my helper 😅 told me she needs to leave on time to go dancing. Now I need to ask my husband to get home early. I have zero time off. I want to go to the park with my grandkids. I have zero household help and prep meals on weekends. I just need a break. When I get home she’s up and ready to take a break. While my day is watching 3 kiddos, Then nights with my mom getting her ready for bed. I just need a break.

I just came out of Legitimate overwhelm. I now suffer from burnout. So now I write a list, priorities my day. Pick most important things. I made a list, started a column of things I have to do, and some goals. I started on the list, and so quickly I checked off things off my list. Make new friendships and practice my good boundaries.

I love hearing these questions from callers. I have had to put time management skills in place and prioritize my days. After losing my husband, family members, my home, my dogs,. I have had to completely prioritize myself. I have put myself first, I have always put everyone else first. So I also have made my own choices of life. So it's weird how important some things are. I've put happiness in there. I went to movies.

Mel. I have a strategy that has helped me with the conversation inside. When my “chorus” starts to give me a laundry list, I tell it to “shut up”. It protests. And then I tell it to shut the F up. And I repeat this process until they are quiet. I’ve been working on this since I started listening to you 7 years ago. You have been on my transformation journey and I hope my “5 second rule” helps you.
