Good tutorial for smaller parcel. Mine very similar to this. Had to clear alot of red maple to try and get Aspen regen.

This is extremely close to my 15 acres except the new food plot is where my house and building never thought I could do anything with it

@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 The snow is piling up a bit here too. Not like Ontario though they had over 3 feet in 1 dump last month. I have been cutting some larger old trees down this winter that are unhealthy and not letting sun in to the under growth. Also I am having soil samples done this year and have been planning some food plot strips, a water hole and one main food plot at the south end of my trees close to the dugout so the deer will move along about their day and stay out of sight until night time. Love your channel, keep it up. One day I would like to have you guys come and turn the screws on my property a little bit but it will be a few years yet.

Thank you, this is my weakness, learning disabilty maybe, I can't get the morning entrance correct, always spooking deer on the way in. Thanks for all you do Jeff.

Jeff, love what you do. Quick question; on a rural 20 acre lot, no ag nearby. Is a 3 acre, screened food plot up against a dirt road too stressful for bucks?

What kind of miscanthus grass, and switch grass would you recommend for Central Ohio? We have areas where each would be great. The taller the better.

Jeff, i have a hard edge where the woodlot meets my AG fieldwith no edge feathering. How far into the woodlot should my travel corridors be to get the left right movement once they enter? 5 yards? 10 yards?

Hi Jeff, thanks for these informative videos. When you say to create travel corridors for the deer are you just cutting trails where you want them to move or are you trying to make existing deer trails easier for the deer to use? Thanks for all your help. Take care.

Thanks a lot Art...you are very! Either mowing a trail about 20 to 30" wide to connect habitat improvements...sometimes spraying that trail if it's dry to keep it down to dirt. I always try to match that connection with existing deer trails if possible...

What kind of miscanthus grass would you prefer?

About a DR brush trimmer width...20 to 30" and enough to ride 1 mountain bike on...or a single person walking trail.

Of your seeds what can be frost seeded? Western/central Pennsylvania

Great concepts, universally applicable. Chores beginning, frost seeding switch grass. Is it too early to spray Simazine?

Hey Jeff your the man I’ve been listening for a few years now I’ve learned a ton. Quick question. It seems like a lot of these big whitetail states are lacking in cover… I’m thinking kansas type. Do you think it is a bad idea to buy relatively cheaper land that doesn’t have as much timber value or hold deer and build your own from scratch? It seems to me like a good way to get things exactly the way you want for cheaper although I know that growth may take a few years. Thanks!

We have pompous grass that’s spreading in patches around our property. My dad wants to spend the seeds (strategically). Thoughts??

Hi Kurt...you never want spreading grass...some of that stuff can take over. I like the Miscanthus only because it's sterile and can not spread. Also, there are better grasses to create pockets for on most lands...switchgrass being one of them

Thank you for the small perception design. Do you have any properties that have a river running through the middle? I got some land that I hunt and it has a river in the middle of it and it’s hard to cross and hunt deer without scaring them off.

Jeff, how many yards of depth of cover is optimal for buck bedding? Ex.. You have a flat 30 acre square field of switch. Can you afford food plots on both ends? Or is it better to stick with one side and build pockets back the other way? Thank you!

As much as you can get and not have too much cover that it isn't food supported. For example once bucks are bedded 300 to 400 yards away from their afternoon food source, they opt for another direction for their afternoon food source. On small parcels in particular, a major food source of at least a 1/2 acre or more, should almost always (never say never) be on 1 side of the land.

What would be a good indicator to tell when a conifer stand should be thinned or eliminated? I have 4 pockets of red pine that are upwards to 50’ tall and wide open in the middle. Thank you

You really just have to gauge if they offer any value for wildlife. Typically removing clearcut pockets is best for wildlife. Most thinning projects are bad for wildlife....

I live in Monana with 13" annual precip and July-August almost zero moisture. Farmers have to irrigate. River bottom land only has cottonwood trees and more open. So food plots and thick cover hard to achieve. . Any experience/suggestionns with this situation?

Hi Mark! I know chicory and alfalfa are both decent for that region. Vetch may be an option too! All dry soil tolerant

You really can't unless you have dry areas. However for consistent deer movement on private parcels you have to have a food plot...

I sure do David! Every Jan, May and September...I base out of New Philly or Chillicothe. Have been making those trips for many years now 😊 That also gets me into western PA a bit, NW WV and northern KY

Why not design that food plot in a U-shape with the legs pointed to the direction where the deer come from? Also, this would hide deer to make bucks travel the plot looking for does.

Because there is only about 150 yards of depth to work with. That would fragment the depth to work with, and point deer on and off the land, and over the road...which would be a very bad thing. It's rarely a good idea to point food in the direction deer are coming from off a parcel...it encourages deer to leave the land too quickly. Also the closer the food is to the road, the less likely deer are to enter the land until after dark.

I have 20 acres. I have an opening on the back side of my property that’s about 1/8 acre. I’m trying to create better bedding on the back side of my 20. What are my best options that I could use to utilize this small opening?

Especially that small...a solid pocket of s itch could be a o effect option of adjacent to good screening cover, or tegen, or shrubs, etc. Or pocket of shrubs from Big Rock Trees couod work!
