Never thought about that idea with "Replace with Attributes" but that would be an absolutely huge timesaver. A feature I would love is if we could expand compound clips from within the timeline. No need to jump inside. Just expand it, do what you need to do, with full context of what's going on in the main timeline, then collapse it and move on your merry way. Amazing video Raf!

Oddly enough, FCP7 had that replace feature that kept the attributes. It was one of *many* things that just didn’t make it to FCPX from FCP7 and still hasn’t been replaced.
Spot on, fingers crossed for this huge update!

Absolutely yes to #1. I don't know how they've made it this far without such a basic feature.

OH MAN that would be fantastic! fingers crossed! Thanks for watching and the comment Ivan!
Some banging ideas here
thank you!
Love the Assets Folder. I learned from another creator to make an Assets Timeline that always stays in my library. So all my branded titles, generators, intro, outro, etc. It works, but a folder would be better. All the other suggestions are great too, but this one is really cool.
3d camera tracking would be huge!
Great recommandition. Lets hope that all these will be implemented in fcp 11
Audio ducking would be FANTASTIC 1:36
I agree with everything your suggesting
Great video and captured 90% of what I want from FCP too. But I think the major feature that FCP is also lacking is an AI beauty / facial enhancement option. CapCut has this natively (free) and D-Resolve has it natively too. Allowing skin smoothing, eye brightening, teeth whitening, eye-bag removal etc, at the touch of a button realtime. Other software is now overtaking FCP so fast, that I'm seriously thinking of making the switch very soon if there isn't a major update from Apple coming in the couple months. When I used CapCut on Mac recently I was blown away with how stable, snappy, and feature-rich it had become. With AI type features in Resolve and CapCut, leaving FCP looking like a dinosaur. I hear Premier is also going to get a Descript type feature built in too soon - not that I'd ever go back to Premier - but it shows how fast they're all innovating, where Apple just don't bother anymore. Sadly.
4:56 Resolve already has a pretty good color match feature. Load in a still from a movie, and you can shot-match as many clips as you want to it. It does a pretty good job of getting 95% of the way there most of the time.
Man, if Final Cut would process the audio lanes separately my workflow would speed up SO much. Currently I'm dropping the voiceover audio into Logic to process it, then dropping it back into Final Cut with the process applied. Lots of import/export time would be saved if FCPX would just run multiple audio tracks with plugins like Logic does
I love me some FCP but after the last few weeks with Davinci, I cut basic social media with FCP now. Its still super fast and oceans of templates available.

I agree, if Apple doesn't do a major update this year, it will be too late and the wave to DR will be locked in. Thanks for watching and the comment!
Automatic build of the audio-waves after every little tweak of 3rd party plugins is an absolute nightmare. we need an option to disable it or to be able to postpone it
Is there a plugin you can recommend for auto ducking? - or is that just not possible with Final Cut as it is?
amen
Dude with new auto captions in resolve the pot is just getting more interesting 😅

100% agree. If FCP doesn't have a MAJOR, and I mean HUGE update along side the Mac Pro. That will be the nail in the coffin. I'm already DRing more and more professionally. Thanks Jake as always!

@@RafaelLudwig I totally feel the pain as well, of course, as a avid fan of the magnetic timeline. I just think the more and more it’s getting to the point where round tripping back-and-forth just for the magnetic timeline is a little bit less justifiable each quality of life improvement resolve has. Crazy times but also as editors it’s just fun to be a part of all of it 🤙
Did you know that audio roles and all roles in general having effects being added was Patented by Apple in 2011? It was always in the pipeline but they never implemented it. I know you have heard this a lot and probably already know it, but yah Resolve gives you essentially all of these right now. Resolve has your classic old school send and listen tools so you can compress the music when any track gets loud it can be voice but it can even be effects too. It's just what you get from the fairlight tools kit, if FCPX had role based tools it could be added pretty easy too. Resolve also has the ability to replace a clip while retaining the keyframes and settings, kinda awesome. Resolve object removal is great too. 3D camera tracker is also built into fusion and extremely powerful. Tabbed timelines, Pancake Timelines, yup! Power bins allow you to share assets with all projects in your database, so you can share animations, presets, files and repeated elements. Power Bins can be very powerful and are also built in.

100% I use Resolve daily professionally, I'm just addicted to the Magnetic timeline, currently I can work faster for rough edits, assemble edits, and then I transfer to resolve to do the finishing for client work, but I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to be able to finish in FCP, that's just me. I pipe dream I know. Thanks for watching and the comment Aaron!

@@RafaelLudwig Oh totally, there are times I miss the magnetic timeline paradigm. I can do assembly cuts and rough cuts pretty fast with the ripple tools in Resolve, but agreed it's not the same. I just find in the end, avoiding the roundtripping and all that tedium still saves me time, vs using two apps. Since I can do all those mixing and finishing steps early in the project so when it comes time to deliver it's already mostly there. And if I'm fast with the track selection tools and use audio layering mode, I can still work pretty dam,n fast on swaps and re ordering. That in the end it's a wash.
One can hope.

DR has the most exciting roadmap as of today. Though, PR is cooking up some pretty sweet things. FCP well, it's FCP. Thanks for watching and the comment David!
Watch folder! Dude, so annoying that I can’t use the same assets that I use frequently!
I´m missing the integration of screen cap videos in Final Cut Pro. I want to use my iPhone 14 pro as camera and have the possibility to screen record + audio from my microphone + system audio + camera and have it all on pancake timelines immediately instead of having to use external imports that take ages. So far I only know of Camtasia doing this and it's the only reason I haven't bought FCP yet. Please APPLE, integrate this feature!
I didn't realise Apple hadn't done a Silcon update yet. That gives me hope. (I tried editing in Resolve recently and I couldn't do ANYthing. I tried to drag and drop a clip on the timeline, and the other clips didn't get out of the way!😳Is there a way to make the Resolve timeline act like FCP timeline? Am I wrong BMD have made it possible to use metadata to organise footage like FCP? Being someone who uses FCP properly👀 and also uses Resolve is a valuable skill now. BMD cameras and BRAW hook me into the BMD eco-system)

If fcp major update doesn't come with the new Mac Pro - it may be the end for FCP! The cut page is as close to the magnetic timeline as you can get, and with the update in 18.5 it's getting closer.
@WarrenPeaceOG
Жыл бұрын
@@RafaelLudwig I'm researching Resolve Cut page now. Observations: 1. people don't know what it's for, and 2. the way people describe it makes it seem TO ME like BMD was taking a page out of FCP's book (but people don't get it, like they didn't get FCP🤣). This makes me hopeful: if BMD was designing Cut page based on FCP, it should be possible to switch without reverting to ye olde Bins and Selects workflow. I think the metadata workflow FCP is designed around is smarter, but for me the transition from Cinema DNG to BRAW changes everything. FCP is suddenly less of a good fit. For organising, I see Resolve has Bins (dumb Keywords) and Smart Bins (Smart Keywords). And it seems Flags can be custom configured to be Favourites/Rejected. So metadata based organisation is possible. It's just Magnetic Timeline behaviour that needs to be replicated/worked around
The problem is, more generally, Apple stopped innovating in their ProApps and FCP specifically years ago. Most of the new features they've added already exist in other NLEs and have been so for years. It's at the point where it's not only Resolve or PremierPro but even CapCut (despite missing many "pro" features) are innovating more quickly than Apple. The most perplexing thing is that if Apple's marketing position is that it doesn't need FCP or ProApps to sell harddware then why are they keeping FCP alive at all. People have been proclaiming (at least wishing) for the "next big update" for several years now. Each new thing comes along (now it's AI) and people hope for the "big" update. At best we get plugins from third parties but that's gotten to the point where it's getting very expensive and the plug in managment is getting difficlut.
i just want to be able to scroll the timeline while on playback and have the ability to see the waveforms without stopping playback. that just such a basic feature that i dont understand why its not like that

It's really 50/50 at this point, if the Mac Pro gets scrapped or delayed then it may be a losing case and FCP will slowly Peter out. I’d like to see everything that Adobe demoed in the Fire Fly video on FCP. But I don’t think that’ll happen. Sigh.
Apple is doing the Apple thing and adding IPad features to their FCP iPad app to force people to buy iPad. IF they don't do a major update with release of Apple Silicon Mac Pro I'm 100% jumping ship to resolve and never looking back.
I believe its time for us to give up on FCP, apple already did, we should too!
