If it's a fear, you can usually identify it and face it, and then it will fade. If it's intuition - the "don't do this" doubt - the feeling won't fade.

Intuition is calm, sure/matter of fact, clear. Most often, your body doesn't react. Its like an inner knowing. Fear can be overly analytical, you go back and forth about the situation/person/idea.

Marie, I gotta tell ya, I am so thankful for what you do. I have been an indecisive person all my life. Big decisions, little ones, it doesn't matter. I just turn to others to make them for me. Then I realized that the root of indecisiveness is both a lack in confidence and fear. Really chewing on that for a while, I came to this video of yours and I applied it. And Marie, your tip, to ask yourself that question about whether the decision feels expansive or contracting, made every single decision so much easier to make. I started applying it today and I flew through decision after decision. That question really cuts to the core and lets me weed out all of those pesky thoughts in my head about what I 'should' feel, what others expect of me or what I think they want from me and even the comparison trap of what others are doing, and hones directly in on what I want and feel. I can't thank you enough for what you do. I've been enjoying and benefiting from your tips for a good long while now but this one takes the cake for me, saving me so much stress, hassle and, as I make one decision after another, it leads me to a more built up level of confidence (as you stated would happen). So thank you! I really needed this.

I cannot thank you enough for the "expansive vs. contracted" comparison!! I got real clarity about what my next step should be based on this comparison and I'm now super excited about the direction it is going to take me in.

OMG it's called Intuition :-D I was recently worrying about how I do not listen to mý fears and do things anyway.... which I thought was supposed to be a good thing.... but I realized bad things always happen then.... I thought about it further and came to the conclusion that I wrote down in my diary: If your excitment is bigger than your fear you're on the right track. If your fear is bigger, don't do it! I realized the thin line between these two! Thank you for naming it to the person who asked the question! ;) And thank you, Marie for the video! Great advice!! :)

Thank you for this simplicity thank you immensely. The decision that made me watch this video scares the crap out of me but still feels expansive. I'm starting to realize how many layers my fear has, but I think this decision will help me clear them. Core fears can definitely have a grip on you but once you address them its like you unlock a new level of yourself

I actually really needed to hear this. I have this thing I thought I had to do, but everytime I thought about it, I felt this weird pain in my chest or in my stomach and I'm not actually excited about it. I thought I'm just afraid and that would mean resistance, but with your explanation, I think it's intuition trying to tell me not to do it. Thanks!

I was confused on that point too in this one, the quote says the opposite of what she was just talking about. I think of personal development as people offering perspectives that are useful for you are a particular time, and some of them can be paradoxical. I think she means in general go with the expansive feeling, but also that fear will sometimes make you feel contracted about something that's necessary for you to grow (and usually when you've already made a habit of not confronting it).

I can relate. I just do the thing that makes me feel the lightest, because even with those contracting feelings there are things that make me feel more relaxed and free, so it's like I'm going from contracted to 'less' contracted, rather than contracted to expansive.

general thoughts and what my thoughts are on the quote ,i think what is meant is that if you feel spiritually/emotionally positive about something beforehand then its the right thing if you feel a type of deep imbedded negativity or aperhension in yourself if you were to go through with it in your mind then its wrong . Now when you think about it beforehand and when you are there is different . there is a lack of comfort in doing it physically at that moment whatever it is.. aka it will feel like resistance . usually due to other things aswell at the time "fear of criticism" or just very vague fear for no reason mixed with laziness . if we say we can do it and follow inside of us what we know is right and push through that seemingly impassable terror barrier we will 99.9 percent of the time end up alright in the end if the intentions are just and honorable . faith aka knowing has no room for fear aka ignorance vice versa so half the battle is visualizing the endgame getting positive with it and the other half is thinking of how to attempt it and going through with it

Great topic! I am constantly trying to distinguish these two (seemingly) closely related feelings. Fear can be very tricky and try disguise itself as more "noble" sensations. (I find this especially true where male/female relationships are concerned!) Thanks for this concise approach, I will definitely keep it in mind as I hone my ability to understand "the oracle", i.e. my gut :)

The quote is not contradicting the message. The idea is that most often, the things that would truly make us grow or bring us to our higher selves are the things we do not face, the things we are too scared of doing that we resist its call and interpret the fear / avoidance as justified and logical, even when we are clearly not happy with the "sensible / safe choice". Because as humans, we would rather be safe than be exposed and vulnerable.

"Often we define doubt as a healthy sort of skepticism, a byproduct of a lively mind analyzing all options. In the Bhagavad Gita, however, doubt is regarded as a thought that touches both sides of a dilemma at the same time; being stuck, not skeptical. The bifurcation between instinct and intuition can have me lingering in doubt at times. The yogic analysis of doubt is appropriately regarded as a paralyzing affliction, after all. But within those lingering moments, the willingness to remember becomes the flash of certitude that allows me to hear that low slow voice that says, “... just keep going…”" Just keep going, there is no bad and good, there is your perception, and choice to perceive things positively or negatively

Tiger I get what you are saying. I think that comes from never learning to trust yourself. I don't know about you, but I have always had that problem and it has occurred to me, lately that I have always been told what to do. I make a good employee because I let others make the decisions and I do the work. However, it really is something that works against you, in your personal life. You always second guess yourself and never seem to be able to make the right decisions. I have been doing a lot of meditating and hope that will make a difference. Certainly can't hurt to try. I hope you find a way to get out of that paranoid position. It really sucks.

So, when you start to doubt yourself, realize that your internal dialogue is nothing more than the echoes of someone else's insecurities. You will find that if you follow your heart, trust your guts, and be honest (especially with yourself) that your life will start to improve. I read this a while ago; Fear is temporary. Regret is not. Very interesting! I wonder if it applies to knowing if we are in a toxic relationship or not. I've been in toxic and even abusive relationships and because of that I am very fearful in new relationships. Which is normal. So I often ask myself if I'm fearful because of the past things I've been through that can sometimes be triggered, or if the fear I'm feeling is actually my intuition/gut, telling me that I'm in a toxic situation and should leave. So I wonder if your strategies apply to this type of situation? Thank you :)

  • @SoraiaGarrett

    @SoraiaGarrett

you might be hesitating a new relationship because of a toxic past, but you need to observe the other person first, notice how they treat you towards you when you are opening up to them. Notice if they love bomb you, which is a sign of a toxic person. It is normal to fear a new relationship due a past trauma, but notice the red flags at first and allow things to go slow, in fact ask it to take things slow. If the person doesn't accept them I'd leave, they need to be in the same page as you. Both open and wiling to make the relationship work healthy.

I was in a very toxic and abusive relationship and couldn't decide if the horrendous anxiety I had about his behaviour was just anxiety cos i have an anxious attachment....however looking back it's clear my gut was telling me to run. I think the difference is anxiety can feel similar to nervousness/excitement...if you try to imagine the same feeling you'd get if you were nervous about something new and exciting it would feel quite similar, and you can usually rationalise the situation and feel better about it....but gut feeling is like a sinking feeling in your stomach and no matter how much you try to talk yourself out of it, you still feel something is off! That's kinda how i'm understanding it anyway!

Good message about intuition and fear. But the quote is really contradicting to be honest

That quote at the end is the opposite of what you said. What if the the things you think you have to do feels constricted, but are only doing them to get to the stuff that is expansive?
