FD3S RX7 Initial shakedown | Luddenham Raceway

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The FD's maiden voyage at the race track, over 2 years in the making! Sadly, I only had 2x sessions before having to retire. There's plenty more in the car & the driver, the best time achieved was a 55.0. Otherwise the car felt amazing & will definitely make a return once some minor issues are addressed.

Thanks mate! Its basically the bigger brother to the NB, very similar driving & aesthetic characteristics.

I dont’t think your oil leak was due to high G because I think it was very low G. Usually oil leak at intake is from crankcase ventilation. You might need oil catch can to monitor the amount of oil. If too high, your engine seals might be done causing combustion pressure leak too much into crankcase pressure. But if you think it is from high G, u might need to monitor oil pressure gauge while cornering, not recommend, to prevent oil starvation. I still prefer RX-8 because I can beat the shxt out of it and the rear still grip while i can oversteer on demand. I would love to own FC or FD but not as a track car.

I covered both of these as contributing factors.. likely that it became overfilled due to heat + pressure, given the oil was on the 'F' mark prior, having spoken to others about this recently, it's recommended to have the oil at half way or just below on the dip stick for circuit application. A catch can will remedy the issue & it's something I'm looking into currently. You need to remember that the FD has won multiple 12-24 hour races internationally in factory trim, including here in Aus.. the sump is equipped with internal baffles.. so whilst oil starvation is something to address for any circuit car, I don't think its of huge concern at this point based on experiences of others. The RX8 is a balanced car no doubt.. with the only disadvantages being that it's on the heavier side + it's underpowered, but hey.. each to their own.

@@alphadriver2840 You also have to take account of that rotary burn oil via OMP and during track day they burn a lot like 200-400ml per 30 mins (depend on OMP tuning). I used to keep oil level just under F because they coming down fast to prevent oil starvation and OMP starvation. But now I use SOHN adaptor so I can directly monitor OMP consumption and not confusing with oil leak. If your setting be oil level at mid, you might have to top up that oil more often.

If by burn, you mean consumes.. then yes the OMP injects some oil into the engine but it's minimal & not reflective of the issue I explained. I haven't changed any of the OMP settings & don't intend to given the current mild/basic set up. Also, the car doesn't suffer from any form of engine (or other components) oil leaks, so there isn't any confusion about what is being consumed &/or being leaked. Blow by is quite common for any engine that sees track use (not exclusive to rotaries) it's not a complicated issue to resolve, so I'm not over thinking things. Appreciate the advice though!
