@@williamwallace3931 Correct me if I'm wrong, but where in the standards for Ryder Cup qualifications does it state that the players are playing for their legacy as well as their country? That's something you're postulating here and it's simply an associated philosophical concept that's unsubstantiated. The PGA Tour tournament sponsors do a collective 40 billion worth of business with the KSA, should any sponsor who does business with the KSA also be cancelled? The LPGA Tour is sponsored by the KSA also; without that sponsorship, there would be no LPGA Tour. Let's let the best of the USA and the best of Europe play no matter what Tour pedigree any individual golfer may have. After all, it's not the PGAT versus the DP Tour and PGAT membership is not a prerequisite for the Ryder Cup team, it's the USA versus Europe, politics be damned.

They're playing for all kinds of different reasons . . . and, "for their country" may, or may not, be one of them. Chamblee's point that the European team is playing not for a country, but for their tour (or status of their tour), is a good one. Of course, both statements---Chamblee's and Faxon's---can both be true. US Ryder Cup teams are made up of 1/2 point rankings, from Tour play, and 1/2 captains picks. In any "team" competition, cohesiveness, closeness and respect for teammates is often a very critical factor . . . as has been reflected in a lot the selections we've seen captain's make. I think those decisions need to be the captain's decisions. If he wants to pick an American LIV player or Korn Ferry player or LPGA player, he should be allowed to do so. If he doesn't, for whatever reason, he shouldn't.

Here we have exactly the problem : all this guy's play on PGA tour because for a win in Europe they get 1) less money 2) nearly zero world ranking points and 3) less money for a start in that tournament. Yes, the stars on PGA tour also have money enough therefore that they start, but not official as LIV it does, they get other learnings round golf.... The politics of PGA tour "America and we first" ruins the dp world tour, they become another Korn Ferry tour. But LIV gives otherwise tours the chance to get free with their money. To get top players in Asia, top events on other tours and so on. I hope the European players, the DP world tour goes more with LIV than with the PGA tour, it would help in coming back as a strong competitive tour again.

Sunday’s final round of the PGA Championship on CBS drew 4.517 million viewers, the lowest total in 15 years on a final day. We shouldn’t underestimate the undermining effect LIV’s has had on the sport. Overall competition has been watered-down on both side of the fence and the changes PGA was forced to do because of LIV in an effort to keep players has degraded PGA’s own product. No cuts and exhibition golf and now it’s all about money, exorbitant amounts of money directed towards players who were overprivileged in the first place which wedges itself in between regular fans and the pro golfers. Such a shame and all of that because of a few bad apples who couldn’t resist the money grab because of character issues.

@@williamwallace3931 What would I have done as the PGA Commissioner? When LIV began and the chosen golfers left, I would have bid them farewell and wished them success in their new Tour. This would have prevented a Public Relations meltdown and given the LIV very little publicity. As the old saying goes, "There is no such thing as bad publicity." I would have not attacked the LIV as this makes headlines and I would not have recruited that little HS dropout Rory and then Tiger to start a negative publicity campaign. I would have made the PGAT a bastion of principle above the fray and made it policy for PGAT players like Rory, Tiger, Horschel, and Zalatoris - and, the motormouth Golf Channel talking heads - to keep their yaps shut and not say anything controversial and negative about the LIV. The LIV would then have been an object of curiosity and little else here and may have been motivated to take most of its tournaments to Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Thailand, and South Africa where the PGAT is not present. I would also have assisted the DP World Tour financially to help them keep their tour competitive instead of giving the top 10 PGAT cards and diluting their product. Oh, and I would have also invited any LIV players who were disenchanted with LIV to be welcomed back to the PGAT with no penalty and, maybe, just an apology for making a mistake. Then, I would have increased the purses and done what needed to be done to make peace and avoid controversy. And after a time, i would have discreetly reached out to Greg Norman and seen what could be done to achieve a lasting peace between the PGAT and the LIV. So, are you not lonely waiting for my answer now? 😄

LiV vs PGA, and it should be a whole new concept, maybe knockout rounds until the final LIV golfer is standing, and the final PGA golfer, then an 18 hole match with their team on their shoulders, that would be big drama!!

@JJ G The nature of the free market and capitalism works as follows - you are forced (yes forced) to do business with enemy countries as well as friendly to survive the competition. If you take a stand and avoid doing business with certain parties somebody else will exploit this and outgrow you. The reason being sanctions and embargoes under the United Nations system must be imposed ONLY when there is a threat of or actual breach of international peace and security. Whereas being an employee of an enemy country is something you can avoid all together unless you have been invaded. The PGA Tour has 27 sponsors who do $40 billion worth of business in Saudi Arabia on an annual basis but that’s a completely different thing than being owned by the Saudi Arabian government like LIV is or in the case of Aramco which is a Saudi company who is the largest sponsor for the LPGA. Gotta love the false equivalency people use!!! Remember the 40 billion dollars are being spent in Saudi Arabia by sponsors who are NOT Saudi companies but companies who also do business with the rest of the world as well as Saudi Arabia. Selling shaving cream to Saudi citizens or John Deere tractors to farmers in SA is not the same as being a de facto employee of the Saudi Arabian government or the South African. Saudi Arabia’s government is made up of by bad actors, but that does not mean that fed-ex shouldn’t deliver packages within Saudi Arabia. They shouldn’t be barred from receiving goods or services from the western world due to their atrocious leadership. That’s how the free market and capitalism work in a free world! Thanks for listening😅

@JJ G Why people can’t tell the difference between doing business with Saudi Arabia and being an employee of the regime is beyond me!!! Remember you represent those you work for whether you like it or not. The players who have joined LIV are lending their reputations to a monarchical dictator who murder and repress his enemies and desperately wants to gain leverage and acceptance in the free world. Being an employee means they are deciding for you what to do with practically no leeway and you are obligated to represent the employer’ values who gets to define their product, whereas doing business you get to decide terms, liability, and make a series of demands and so forth. Thanks for listening😅

OR We could talk about reality. The PGA TOur Execs and their co-sponsors thought they didn't have to compete for the players wages through MONOPOLY. Support the players, if that's what you really are thinking you are doing, by not supporting corporations monopolist negotiating tactics. If OWGR were actually "rankings" it wouldn't matter who sponsored the tour. The best players would be at the top and the money events would follow the best players. You see what I am getting at? The PGA and Monahan should not have a monopoly on golf but that should be corrected by the free market and capitalism as we know it where profit is THE guiding principle and not by the Saudis where a lack of profit is no concern of theirs which in and of itself is very problematic because of the power that comes with it where you don’t have to be accountable and can be indifferent to the effects you are causing!!! Being admittedly a traditionalist and being appreciative of the rich traditions golf history have to offer where legacy is THE comparative measure in which to decide a golfers succes which means that continuity and golfers sharing the same platforms is paramount!!! This is why many traditionalists feel a a certain betrayal by the players who joined LIV because they are making it impossible to compare and contrast legacies. It’s about the lack of respect and appreciation that bothers me. Remember without spectators and fans these athletes have nothing, no business, zilch, nada, diddly-squat so it goes without saying - it should be a symbiotic relationship between regular golf fans and pro golfers based on mutual respect and understanding that decides what golfers do in their careers. But instead the LIV players has chosen for themselves the cash grab from a very controversial source without any regard for their followers and the sport even though they were VERY well off in the first place and didn’t need to put everything aside because of money concerns. Such a shame on so many levels!!!

LIV picked up 6-8 players that are in their prime, the rest know they aren't competitive as they used to be on the PGA Tour. Professional golf is just fine... actually it's in a better place as a result of the changing landscape, improvements with the PGA Tour, and wave after wave of incredibly talented young players joining each year.
