Father convicted of killing teen daughters after they refused arranged marriages

Welcome to Crime Watch Daily Update Briefings: Today, the case of Yaser Said, a story we first covered in 2018. Yaser Said was accused of murdering his 18-year-old daughter Amina and 17-year-old daughter Sarah after their bodies were found riddled with gunshots in his cab parked outside a hotel in Dallas on New Year’s Day 2008.
The hunt for Yaser Said continued for over 12 years. The FBI named him one of their Top 10 Wanted Fugitives, and authorities ultimately found and captured him in August 2020.
On August 9th, 2022, a jury in Dallas convicted Said of capital murder. He will serve life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Take a look back at some of the details that led to Amina and Sarah's murder and to the conviction of their father, Yaser Said.

Yes, it’s true she *WAS* a victim, but is no longer considered one after basically sending the girls to get killed. It’s not like she didn’t know, she knows what kind of person her husband is. I'm amazed their mom hasn't been charged with at LEAST child endangerment. Her behavior goes beyond battered spouse syndrome and into selfishness and neglect and nothing makes that more evident after their death than her discrediting the abuse those girls lived through just to make herself look innocent. Protect all victims, but hold the ones who got their daughters killed accountable for their criminal negligence. My hope is that law enforcement is waiting to have him behind bars so it wouldn't look like they're taking the easiest arrest and giving up on finding him, but that as soon as he's been convinced they charge her and put her away for as long as the system allows. Many of the people of these countries practice the Islamic religion. The parents have too much say in their children's choice of marriage partners. Don't forget some of the Asian countries operate on the arrange marriage system also. In America these foreigners come to settle here and practice their cultural teachings here including their belief of justifying killing their own children. The wives/ mothers are in agreement. So sad!! They lie to authorities so they don't have to be imprisoned. They operate that way here in the U.S. as well as Canada. 01/25/2023

I think no matter how she acts in the video or what she says, she’s still the mamma who birthed and raised those two beautiful girls, and as long as humans are still remotely human, she thinks about them, and misses them, and knows she could have stopped this. On the surface she’ll make excuses for herself, and at night she’ll maybe tell herself over and over that there was nothing she could do, but a person can only walk a tightrope and not look down for so long. And her existence till the day she dies is a tightrope walk now. At no point will her daughters ever come back; at no point will solid ground ever come back under her feet. Nothing but void below, every time she looks. And she will look. It gives me solace to know that her suffering will be relentless, persistent and lifelong. At best, she will sometimes find respite in distraction, and be able to pretend ever so briefly to herself that she’s someone she knows she truly isn’t.

I used to think like you until i got religious friends and they told me about their experiences. It absolutely has to do with religion and culture clash. Dad was furious the girls didn't follow his religion, tradition and culture and they continued to do things that are against his beliefs, therefore bringing ''shame upon the family'' as they call it. He killed them to ''bring the honor back''. This happens sometimes but rarely in America. It all depends on where you come from/live. This man wasn't born as muslim in America where they are more progressive. He wanted to live in his home country where it's a lot different with culture/society/traditions/poverty/family hierarchy. In America religious women have more rights but family abuse happens exclusively and a lot with muslims in my diverse country bc men here often see their women(both wives and family) as property. It's extremely sad. I have two close muslim friends going through this currently and one childhood friend who had to get married against their will with their older COUSIN and never got to contact me again, completely shut off from society and people are ok with this? This does not happen with ANY other religion in my country. I'm devastated since i cannot do anything about this for my friends but seeing others denying that religion/their traditions isn't the problem or even a play a factor truly isnt helping to educate others, reducing these things to happen to young women. Important to note that not all who are religious are this way, my friends are beyond lovely but traditions play a huge role in some very religious countries like in this case. Consider yourselves lucky to be born in a good place.

My mother was like this, not quite as bad though. Thankfully, she came to her senses but it was years before she did. I have no sympathy for this woman, as a survivor or a parent. We are supposed to protect our children no matter what, period, no excuses no exceptions. We brought them into this life, and our job from day one is to love, protect and teach them so they can be good, kind people. We do not own them, they are not objects. I don't hate much in this world, but men like this, are at the top of the list. I just don't understand how any parent could be like this. You mess with my son and I don't care how old he is, I'll be there to protect and help him and I'll kick anyone's butt if they try to hurt him. THAT is what she should've been doing. I get the mentality of the abused and all that, I lived it, but she KNEW her daughters were in danger. She could've gone back alone and left the girls with her sister, or the bf's mother. Anyone. They had the support, she kept helping the father cut them off from it by doing nothing. It seems like the family didn't do anything either, but they could've just edited those parts out, I don't know, but they knew and according to this did nothing too. I also don't understand why he stayed in America if he hated it here so badly? He obviously had the money to move back to his homeland. Sorry, got a bit angry ☹

Every time I see this story I weep for them. They’re future snuffed out by their father and MOTHER. She is just as responsible for their deaths as the father. I feel no sympathy for her. Every time they show her I’m disgusted and repulsed by her. As a mother, your supposed to do everything in your power to protect your children and she didn’t. I hope they haunt her for the rest of her miserable life. I hope she looks at these comments on how deplorable she is.😡😡🤬

"Culture clash"? This is what happens when men are allowed to treat women like less than second class citizens, less than animals, like property, while they themselves apparently can do no wrong - and the ones in power do nothing. Patriarchy is everywhere and it starts small but it can grow to this horrible degree if we don't hold men accountable early.

This mother angers me. These girls might be here today if she didn’t make them go back to him.

If the Mom have done what she was supposed to do, which is to walk away from the men, her daughters would still be alive. She is responsible for them.

I feel for the mother to a certain extent, but on the other hand I feel she is equally responsible for their deaths. She knew exactly the kind of man he was and ultimately served her daughters to him on a platter smh she should do time too in my opinion smh

Typical example of toxic male behavior strengthened by his religion and tradition. Unfortunately mother is also a typical example of victim who became accessory to his crimes and behavior
