It's because these highlights were his first two fights in the UFC. So the guy quickly became a star in the UFC as well as sharing the same last name as Ken. He fought a few more times and retained the middleweight championship. At the same time, Bas Rutten has joined the UFC and won the heavyweight belt but was deciding to vacate and move down to middleweight (and possibly become the OG double champ). However, Frank beat Tito Ortiz at UFC 22 - There Can Be Only One Champion (no shit, this is the name of the event) then "retired" from the UFC. This was right in the middle of the "dark ages" of MMA in North America where the UFC was holding events in places like Alabama, Iowa and Louisiana. And their next event was UFC 23 in Japan where they were having difficulty moving into the Japanese market. So instead of getting a massive middleweight championship bout between huge stars Frank Shamrock vs Bas Rutten, the UFC got blue balled. So it's only in these circumstances that Tito's manager, a guy named Dana White, hears from the owner of SEG a little over a year later that they are thinking of selling the company and he tells his childhood friend to buy it. So you would think Dana might be grateful to Frank for these circumstances but I would think that Dana was pissed that Frank was too selfish and helped to nearly put him and his fighters out of a job if the UFC was shut out of North America and Japan.

He was one of the first complete all around mixed martial artists, his partnership with Maurice Smith that brought Kickboxing into his game was revolutionary and heralded a new era in MMA.

Same with Frank Shamrock during his run. He was one of the first complete all around mixed martial artists, his partnership with Maurice Smith that brought Kickboxing into his game was revolutionary and heralded a new era in MMA. Rousey vs Zingano. The finishing sequence is the best out of them all. It's the way Ronda neutralises Zingano's flying knee with a left head lock and then rolls herself forward. Zingano's body follows Ronda to the floor and she makes the most of her opportunity by taking the back and finishing with a sweet submission. Bravo 👏 you have to watch it a few times to truly appreciate it. Also Mcgregor vs Aldo will always be a legendary moment in the UFC.
