That wasn't what I heard, apparently his Russian cornermen said "Knee him" while his English speaking cornermen warned him that Sterling was grounded so "Punches only". I guess he got confused and with Russian being his first language, he threw the knee first. You can actually hear his corner say "Just punch" in the video.

Then, apparently, Yan asked "knee", and the Russian one responded something sounding like "knee", or rather "пни его", which is "kick him". This last part is barely heard, thanks to commentators' voice.

Watching Gastelum have Izzy basically out on his feet only to just stand there and look at him for 3-4 seconds before deciding to sort-of shoot is right up there with Nate Diaz rocking Leon Edwards in the closing moments of their fight only to stand there and point at him instead of attempting to finish and win the belt.

Big one I never see mentioned is Rousey vs. Holm. Rhonda actually got Holly down and was on her back. If she sunk her hooks in more and flattened her out it could have looked so different but she gave up the position immediately to go for an arm bar and Holly slid out.

Most difficult to handle was when Glover rocked Jiri and man, that haunts me. He would have finished Jiri, it's such a great fight but that moment always sticks with me. Michael Bisping "OH WHY DID HE DO THAT!?" Big Nog rocking Mir, who falls flat on his face and Big Nog decides to go for a submission, that again still haunts me. Watching shoulder get destroyed when the fight was in the bag.

@@ronmka8931 The reasoning comes from non-fighters, and it came back when the UFC didn't have weight classes, so those elbows would be very destructive if a heavyweight did it to a much smaller opponent. They also didn't like the elbows to the back of the head. The rule should've vanished when strikes to the back of the head became illegal, and weight classes were added. According to Joe Rogan(IDK if he made it up); They saw people breaking blocks with their elbows and assumed they were generating too much power for it to be legal...

He recently said in an interviewer after training with pereira that if he fights him again he would do the same and get knocked out cuz he is just dumb and wants to bang.. Atleast he is self aware of the idiocy

Aljo shooting on Moraes wasn’t the right thing to do in that exact moment but it wasn’t like all of these other moments. It may have been poor iq but definitely not negative iq

​​@@samplename8721 putting weight on a broken hand and striking with a broken hand are two different things. Both would hurt, but striking would hurt more and is more likely to further damage the injury. Of course he could have made it all up, I dont know what his after fight doctors visit showed.

I would say the most common low fight IQ moments that even great fighters do is giving up position for something like a guillotine. I've never seen that work in the top rankings yet it still happens from time to time.
