Fastest and easiest way to install carplay and android auto for 3rd gen Mazda 3

This is for 3rd gen mazda that has usb hub located inside the dash, NOT IN THE ARMREST! IT SHOULD TAKE YOU LESS THAN 30 MINS, CAUSE A KID LIKE ME CAN DO IT!!
Contact me through FACEBOOK if you have any information or questions!
www.facebook.c...
And join 3rd gen mazda owners group on FACEBOOK if you want :)
This is where you get all the information about software update
Link is dead
1) Please check you region and version by following
on your infotainment screen, go to setting, go to system tab, scroll down to "about", scroll down to "Version information", it will tell you your OS version and region code
If it does not show your region code, turn your car off, unplug everthing that is connected to your usb hub (also disconnect your phone if Bluetooth is on) and press start/stop button for 1 TIME ONLY (auxiliary mode), go to FM mode, PRESS MUSIC BUTTON + FAVORITE BUTTON + VOLUME BUTTON AT THE SAME TIME FOR FEW SECONDS
It will bring up the diagnostic test screen and then you need to enter code 53 then press enter, exit it. Now go back to your "Version information", it should tell you the region code as well.
2) Now to update it (updated): the link has been taken down by Mazda unfortunately. You can try to find different link on Mazda 3 forum or contact your local Mazda dealer for the programming
Then go to Mazda Connect Firmware file, Choose your region file, mine is Na N so that is what I picked, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE READ the firmware alert text to know what you need to download or you will break the whole system if mess up.
For the instruction video, I found this video which is perfect in explaining how to update your software:
• Mazda Firmware Update ...
3) after you have updated your firmware, which is the newest one (70.00.352), follow my video to install the hardware
you can buy it here:
www.ebay.com/i...
PLEASE JUST DO IT, IT SOUNDS COMPLICATED BUT REALLY EASY IF YOU WANT TO DO IT!

I just got a 2014 Mazda 3 GT Hatchback, it’s a very nice car. Interior is very nice, and upgraded the touchscreen to Apple CarPlay. I like how Mazda provides a oem kit to for it, no other company does this. Very impressed with the car.

Thanks for the tutorial! It really helped make this DIY manageable. For those that struggled to get the usb hub out even after pushing down on the tabs from above with a screwdriver, try to snake your hand behind the box through the side hole where the glove box is and push as hard as you can. It’ll pop out given enough force without breaking the bottom tabs.

Decent tutorial, but note to everyone...invest in a trim removal kit. With exception to the socket wrench, one wrong move using metal tools can wreck (scratch) the plastic. Trim removal kits have plastic / soft materials (not metal).

Followed your instructions and got it done in about 45 mins! Thank you for the tip! Saved me from disassembling my entire center console. I found that pushing on the tabs from the top, while pushing from behind with your free hand (approach from the glove compartment) will help loosen it enough to pry it out using the flat head. Surprisingly, that wasn't the hardest part. I almost lost the screw for the head unit, hahaha.

Unfortunately, the 2nd half of instructions don't apply to those of us with the poverty spec climate controls. I'll make a video of my own if i figure it out or don't find another one.

3:30 in my 2017 mazda 3 I have the aircon/climate control in the way when I get the vents out, I can’t see the tabs from the top like yours. Any ideas on how to access the tabs? Would love to do it like this instead of disassembling the entire centre console!

What's the point of the new cables? Will you get faster charging? Why can't you just replace the module?

Prob wasted far more time than doing it the proper way. Finally realized there’s tabs on the bottom and that’s why it wasn’t coming out. Now will have to wait till the next day I have a few more hours and do it the more proper way anyways...

Lowicky Li Yes, but using a flashlight I managed to see the tab that he was talking about and I used a very long flat head screw driver. Routing the wires through there was fine as long as you mount them out of the way. I also made sure that the knobs still turned

SketchyG So I’m able to reach the right side of the clip but can’t get to the other clip or get it out. How did you manage to wiggle it out? I tried pulling it with the piler by the sd slot as well.

No, the SD has no effect on Apple CarPlay, as it will use the maps app from your phone! That alone makes buying Apple carplay worth it as it’s still cheaper than the nav SD

For the usb hub, try to push down the top clips with a long flat head screwdriver inside the console, while prying out the bottom from outside the console. Some plastic prying tools would help!
