I shedded tears over this clip. Getting old sucks- it seems so unfair- I was fifteen when Fast Times came out-I watched the movie with four of my buds at the movie theater at the Paradise Valley Mall. The movie portrayed the eighties to a tee as a highs school teenager- lifetime memories -life is definitely too short- embrace every moment

I saw this film when it was released, I had just graduated high school and the film was spot on. I was born, raised in Alabama, but seeing teens from California in this film, they were no different than the lot of my high school friends (except for an accent). We were all dealing with the same sort of issues and living in a bubble called high school. Looking at those character, I would've loved to say that I was the cool Damone, but in reality, I was Mark Ratner. But after a few years of building my confidence, I think I turned myself into Damone for just a short while before I met the love of my life and settled down. Great memories, though. Wow. I can still remember every song on that soundtrack. The malls, the restaurants, the girls........their hair, the cars, and the cruising on the week-ends. The days are long..........but the years are lightening.

Technology killed the idea of being a 'teenager'. Once it got to the point of being in your home such as video games, internet, cell phones, this generation hasn't and will probably never understand the true delight of seeing your friends in places designed for youth such as the malls like Sherman Oaks or the video/pinball/pool halls where teenagers mingled. The concerts were cheap, the musicians were talented, cars expressed personalities and sounded like what an engine should sound like, not some whiny insect flying by. Minimum wage jobs were meant for teenagers starting out not as a means of lifestyle and pretty much everyone got along unless you were a asshole to begin with.

What I find interesting about this movie is that most of the major characters didn't go on to have long lasting careers, except for (2) Shaun Penn and Jennifer Jason Lee. However, (2) that had very small parts Nickolas Cage and Forest Whitaker, went on to have big careers.
