Farm Project; Build a Hobby Farm Hay Feeder Out of an IBC
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Did you know that up to 50% of feed put on the ground is wasted? It's easy to avoid this with a simple budget hobby farm size hay feeder that I build this week out of an IBC. For $50 Australian and a few hours, I build a feeder that will save you nearly half your feed bill. Not only that but you will lower wasted feed and avoid dangerous diseases associated with wet, moldy feed. This is a perfect weekend project that requires little money and leaves you with a sense of accomplishment.,

Haha love it. Thanks for all the knowledge
My husband and I have been looking for ideas to make a feeder. Prices have skyrocketed for everything. We considered making one out of wood, but I don't want to have to rebuild it any time soon. This idea was perfect. I just watched a video prior to yours of doing the same thing. Weather protection and a catch at the bottom for loose hay were not considered. These were the factors that I made my decision on as to which I would build. Yours definitely took the cake with these particular additions. Thank you so much for making this video!
I built one of these for my dorper sheep after watching this very informative video. The issue I have found is that the older sheep can get their heads stuck inside the IBC cage. We've only had it out in the paddock for a day and the ram was stuck fast and had to be freed, and the following day we had 2 young wethers stuck in the same hole, resulting in one being killed. I'm going to use gate mesh to close down the cage gaps to stop them being able to push their heads in, and only making the ends of the V shaped funnel and the tray below accessible. Other than this, its a cheap and great way to feed the sheep and it definitely worked. I'll just make it a bit safer for my sheep breed.

Great feedback. Thanks
Just built ours, cracking idea. We used old poly pipe to cover the edges instead of bending the plastic.
I have to say I wish I could of seen this idea 20 years ago, I’m putting legs of a trampoline on mine… 🤩🤩🤩🤓
The mother-in-laws transport and Hair dryer in one episode, impressive. Brilliant idea though
I’ve seen several videos of this but yours is the best method. The way you modified is safer than most for livestock! We have access to many so will be putting them to good use. Thx for the great video!

Thanks for that!
You should use the corner off cut pieces to finish off the V … it provides a rounded edge rather than any sharp edges. And yes I have a couple of these ripper feeders. The girls love em and the Llama gets his treats on the roof where the girls can’t reach. Can’t recommend enough to anyone thinking just do it.
" Mother in Law's Motorbike"... I'm guessing she doesn't watch your vids... or she is got a great sense of humor! Reuse and repurpose... cornerstones of ranchers and farmers. Great Vid... AGAIN... Mr. Thompson.

@@FarmLearningTim Your a lucky man Mr. Thompson, as am I. Also did you really think your eternally curious sheep would stop knocking over your video cam if you told it "don't"? Hahaha... It's like telling my jughead calf not to poke it's head through the wire fence and bend over the T posts... teenagers... Whaddya going to do. 😁
Mother in laws motorbike! 🤣 2:10
Screw in tent anchors can keep it from blowing away
Thanks for the video
Thanks Tim, great project!
Brilliant
This is brilliant thanks Tim. I’ve got one of these sitting in the shed looking forward a purpose 👍

Tim! You are such a genius! This is a beautiful and remarkable repurposing useful feeder invention! I’m sending this off to everyone I know with sheep, goats and miniature horses! What can you repurpose/recycle for horses? Saddle horses and Percheron Draft horses? 😍😎🤩 thanks again Tim!
Brilliant Tim. I will be doing a couple of these quick smart
Just saw you on Landline. Great idea, this weekends project for my goats. Love the vid, I have some binge watching to do now. Thanks Tim
Yet another great video. 10 minutes of my time well spent. 👍 I'll be making a couple of these for when I get stock in. A lot of fencing to be done before then though.
What a brilliant & useful idea, Have a few food grade ones stored, which can now be repurposed Thanks Tim for your excellent videos
Thanks greetings from Jamaica
What a great idea! We have some of those lying around the farm. Think we will turn them into sheep hay feeders. Thanks Tim!
awesome job and awesome vid
Just what I was looking for this very fine morning! Now I need to look around for some discarded IBCs...
Good on you M8
Great video! Subscribed!
Love it, I would have probably used some split black poly over the sharp edges of the cage, otherwise I'm going to make one just like this, thanks for sharing 👍

Hi Tim, Maybe you could have used the 'corners' you cut out in the first step in the bottom of the V.
