I have enjoyed following your journey to qualification and used your bag mapping tips for my system. I have the truestrike mat, that actually has done the opposite for me. I used to pick the ball off the turf and now I take a divot (most of the time). Best of luck and thanks for all the content/

Thanks for the comment. I think I would defo be keeping it if it wasn't for my back issues and would execute a plan of 70/30 course/sim practice. Not very local to you and have a friend interested in most of it 👍

Hi Steve, thanks for the comment. I had little niggling back problems before putting the sim in. Hitting off the mat sitting on concrete made those niggles turn into very uncomfortable discomfort. If I play off grass my back is fine. I'm sure you will be fine with no history of back trouble but if you start to feel anything strange in your lower back... Stop

You can get matts that mimic taking a divot. They work really well and are not like a solid rubber back, they have a few rubber “legs” instead

Gotta try a new mat. I have a Country Club Elite hitting strip and plywood built up and covered in turf for stance that sits on a gel slab. I hit 100-200 balls per day. Also use mevo plus and love the data parameters that I get. First year having a sim I won 5 individual events, compared to the best year prior was 2 wins. Love it, I’ll never go back, but the mat has everything to do with it.

I'm somewhat sympathetic to his frustration and what he's saying. But I don't understand, if he's been playing for any length of time, why he didn't understand from the git-go that this is a problem with all golfers in practice situations that involve everything from driving ranges to home simulators. It's always been well known by any amateur I've known to the best pro, that your range practice and simulation doesn't translate well to the actual course. However, I still see them hitting off matts at ranges and on simulators. The reason is this, every shot you take at the range on a mat or using your home simulator on a mat is a perfect lie. You also know you get another ball every time when you mess up. This allows you more relaxed and you don't suffer from the "this is my only shot" syndrome like you do on the actual course. So, the secret is, like he said, that you have to play a lot of golf on an actual course before your game will ever get better.

Thanks for the comment. It was mostly the hitting off the mat aggravating my back which was the straw that broke the camels back. Your right though you need a good mix of outdoor and indoor practice 👍 with the outdoor being way more important

Country club elite mats are very unforgiving for pickers and you have to get your AoA correct otherwise it’s a fat.

I think you are making a mistake by selling it. Sure you can practice on turf as the opportunity is there now, but you never know what your circumstances will be down the road. I totally agree with you about practicing off turf will always trump SkyTrak, but I guarantee in a few months, years time you wish you hadn’t.

Hi Tim Thanks for your message. I have suffered with my back for the last 4-5 years and as I get older it's more problematic. It actually stopped me playing for 3 months in 2021 and I missed Senior Open Qualifying. Struggle to play 18 holes on back to back days now and on the hard floor on the sim my back starts to niggle after 20 shots or so. Also FOR ME these days hitting off a matt doesn't promote good swing trends.

@@ScratchAt50 there are many who would say your back hurts because of flaws in your swing, if anything should hurt from a bad mat it would be your wrists. Now if your back only hurts when hitting off a mat you should look into what you’re doing differently on the mat and real turf. You could be pulling up to avoid hitting the mat too hard which puts extra strain on the back. There’s definitely some subconscious compensations you are making hitting off the mat.

Thanks for your comment. I had back issues effecting how much golf I can play way before I got the golf sim. The firmness of the mat on the concrete floor aggrevates it more and quicker so I have found myself using it less and less.
