I just received my garmin r10. I am very happy with it so far. The accuracy at the range is very good. The set up was super easy which I personally think is important especially for those of us who went to school in the previous century. I was able to quickly download and play a round at the course I played as a kid. The video swing capture feature seems pretty much flawless. Battery life is great. It comes in a very nice case that fits right in my bag. I've used it on my outdoor net...seems fine. I would recommend this device to anyone who is looking to improve their game. I wasn't "shocked " to see my swing, it wasn't that bad lol. I spend a lot of time at the course and I see bad swings on the range ALL THE TIME...like 1 in 5 is decent. But seeing my swing matched up with the club/ball data is priceless! And yes I do come over the top too much still, and the garmin r10 data agrees. At some point the super fine accuracy that we'd all like isn't nearly as important as the fundamental question of what am I doing right/wrong. I'm a 12 handicap now. I bet next year I am down to 8 based on the things I see that I know I can correct. Thanks Gabe! I pre ordered this based on your review. It works just like you described. Keep up the great videos.

Nice job, Gabe. For those wanting to know the specific accuracy comparison (amount of difference on similar shots) and why, I'd suggest listening to the My Golf Spy reviews of both of these devices. They went very in-depth on how each works. I've had a SkyTrak since the early days of its release. I use it in my garage setup and it works great, especially on irons. It tends to struggle as swing speed/ball speed goes up. TXG also found this that it is very accurate until you get to the top end of the swing speed range. I still love it for working on my irons and wedges and the occasional driver for shot shape (I ignore the carry numbers mostly).

Nice job thanks. I'm wondering if your flattish and I-O swing path is making the R10 more accurate since there seem to be some problems (more indoors but also outdoors in some cases) with O-I swings from what I've seen and spin axis and ultimate finishing point. The question still seems to be an open one at this juncture. Also, handedness then comes into play since I'm a lefty and would these issues be reversed from that side of the ball? You also didn't mention the swing recording (and also potential analysis) capability of the R10 which I find moderately intriguing and which I believe is another advantage over Skytrak.

First of all, I truly enjoy your channel - just a good overall vibe. When everything went on lockdown last year, I bought a 10x7 net and cheap mat on Amazon. I still haven’t been back to the range! I SO wanted the R10, as I’m a Garmin fan and have the S62, so it would have been nice to keep everything in the same family. But a minimum of 8’ from ball to net, with recommendations of 10’+ just wouldn’t work for me. I’d sail anything 9+ over the net, so I went with SkyTrak. I just wish it included the limited E6 subscription like Garmin and other Doppler units. 5 or 6 free courses would be plenty, but now I’m stuck trying to decide on a sim package, which will cost another $200-$600 per year. Hard to swallow after shelling out more than $2k for SkyTrak. One minor issue with your review, as well as most other launch monitor reviews: almost all evaluate either an indoor setup or outdoor at the range. Very few evaluate an outdoor net setup. (I did see one of your reviews of the Garmin hitting into the same net I have, but like me, you were concerned about hitting over the net.) I have to believe that not many people truly have an extra living room sized room available to dedicate to golf. If they do, they’re probably single or soon will be. SkyTrak works great outdoors. I haven’t had any issues, even in direct sunlight, although sometimes the laser dot is a little hard to see. And it doesn’t require anywhere near the space that Doppler units do, even ignoring the space needed behind the hitting area. As long as I have enough space between my ball and the net to swing my club, SkyTrak works. For my 60°, that can be just a little over 3’, allowing me to hit really high flop shots. For anyone who uses a hitting net outdoors and doesn’t want to have to worry about skying balls into the neighbor’s yard, SkyTrak seems to be the only “affordable” option for now.

I purchased a manufactured net, classic 10x7. First swing in the yard.(went with driver to keep it low.) I have no idea where that ball ended up. The next neighborhood over for certain. That ball was easily 5 feet over the net when hit from the recommended distance from the monitor. That's the only set back with ANY launch monitor set up behind the tee. If I had a garage, I'd probably hit wedges through the ceiling and into the attic. Guess I need to purchase a mesh tarp to drape over the top to prevent breaking neighbors windshields. Have to step back and rethink this shit. Getting more expensive every day. Bummer For many out there thinking outdoor net, don't bother with store bought unless it's totally covered on top and sides or you hit the ball super low. I've tried Spornia ,neighbor has one, and it was no better, even with the roof attachment. (at least for me) Just buy a Harbor freight mesh tarp and fabricate a frame from PVC or wood to drape the tarp over 10x20 works quite well, 20x40 is better, you can double it over, but that can get heavy. I really like the set up of SkyTrak...... but I have only outdoors to swing and it was not recommended for outdoor use. That would have solved my net issue but I felt Garmin R10 was best for what I want..... so Garmin it is.

It is worth noting that if you are set up indoors in a garage, the R10 will have some challenges. Interference with the Doppler can come from fans, lights, refrigerator motors, concrete floors, and metal objects. I had the R10 and had to return it because an industrial fan is a must here in Florida. I got terrible numbers from the unit with the fan running.

Update:. I purchased a Skytrak and it is perfect for indoor use. If indoor use is the primary goal, I highly recommend an optical based unit. Without 15 feet of ball flight and 8 feet behind the ball, radar will be less accurate. Skytrak is the most affordable of the optical units. The new Bushnell is going to be heavy competition.

Since I just dropped the dime for a Garmin R10 which will be here tomorrow and partly due to your previous reviews, I am going to hold off watching this video so I don't have buyer's regret before I even get a chance to try it out. I'll just go with what you noted in earlier videos !!! Just following up since I got my Garmin and had some time to use it. I think there was one pretty big software update since you made this review so not sure if that would change anything. I was able to do some screen mirroring with my unit which took some time to work out, but it worked pretty well. While I have not confirmed it yet, it appears if you use the E6 Connect on a laptop, you can get landscape mode - or at least that is what I have seen on other reviews. For me personally I got the Garmin as in interim step to getting a GC Quad and building a full simulator setup so it made sense to get the budget model for now while I save some cash. Your review is spot on for the most part and should help others make a decision that works for them.

WGT was total crap and the other software can get into the thousand dollar range. And every year you have to re-subscribe to keep your unit working. I had to do a zero dollar subscription as I was only interested in the range. And to avoid yearly charges I didnt even get the full range features. The mevo plus has been a great tool with e6 connect and all the courses it offers with realistic ball play. Ya, you don’t get the realistic lies but you begin to hit the ball consistently solid while your smash factor keeps increasing. I’m sure these will also work. If you want to get better with golf you have to hit, if any of these gadgets will make you hit more, then you will get better.

You need to give me the brain back…I was just starting to look into this today!! WOW! Great comparo…I’d reallllly love to get the Garmin R10 due to the price savings, and all the club data it provides. HOWEVER, I’ve noticed from all the reviews I’ve watched that the club data is not even close to being accurate. Seems if you are in inside out swinger it is really inaccurate….hmm…I may have to get one and do my own testing…if I can find one. Not sold on the home town sim…looks like 8 bit graphics…not a seller for me. I’m currently testing out the Mevo. It’s good so far. What I’m really finding out though is no matter how much you spend on these launch monitors, if you’re using them at the range, you’re limited by the quality of the crappy & inconsistent balls there…so, in the end, not sure any of these are worth it since you’ll never get consistently accurate data due to the lowest common denominator…the balls! But, if you’re setting up to play more indoor/at home, you can control that aspect…I may have to do that if I get one of these, but don’t really have the room indoors…

I found it to be pretty good. Not perfect but for the price point I think it’s really good. I get what you’re saying about the graphics. The nice thing is that it renders quickly. So the sacrifice of the Hi-Res can be justified in a way.

I agree the biggest difference between the 2 is the skytraks spin accuracy. The Garmin only directly measures 4 things to the skytraks 6. Most people will find a better value with the garmin, but people who want another notch better accuracy and putting to get an immersive sim experience should go with the skytrak.
