Far Cry | Ranking The Villains

Ойындар

While most series may be known for their main characters and heroes of the story, Far Cry is certainly not one of those series. The Villains of the Far Cry series have always been way more memorable and important in the Far Cry games, and usually occupy the huge spot on the front of the cover. Ever since Far Cry 3 really, there’s always been one big main villain and the one everybody will associate with that game. Far Cry 3 being Vaas, Far Cry 4 being Pagan, Far Cry 5 being Joseph, and just recently Far Cry 6 being Anton. Not all the games in the series are like this though, there’s more obscure and mysterious villains like The Jackal from Far Cry 2, or the duo of Ull and Batari from Far Cry Primal. So today we’re going to be ranking all the main villains of the Far Cry series, just like we did with the Far Cry Open worlds and the protagonists. Keep in mind this ranking is my opinion so feel free to leave your rankings down in the comments. If you enjoyed this video I'd appreciate it if you considered leaving a like on the video and subscribing to the channel if you're new here I make a lot of Far Cry videos on the channel. Other than that thanks for watching and have a good rest of your day!

Eh not really. Alot of pure evil villains that are my favourite like the Joker is an easy example (Not the Solo movie). Theres no questioning wether he is a villain or not and he is G.O.A.T villain to me Grey Villains are not necessarily always the best ones.

I really hope if Ubisoft is going to make a branch off game after far cry 6 like far cry primal, New dawn... that it takes place during the 67 revolution and we get to actually get some backstory and influence Antons father had on him, aswell as maybe even playing as the character Lobo, who was the top Geurilla in the revolution but was killed by El tigre due to him wanting to take over yara himself, which also teaches us what Juan has been telling dani how this whole Libertad stuff was just an excuse to kill and cause chaos. SO much story potential and character understanding of Anton Castillo

Joseph is my number 1 by a landslide. He is crazy, yet he acts reasonable. Unlike Vaas for instance who just wants to see you dead. He gives you plenty of chances to either walk away, join them, or if you wish, fight them. And only if you fight him he will try and hurt you. This is what makes him so special. He just wants to do his thing and isn't bothered by you unless you give him a reason. Also what makes him my number 1 is simply the way he's talking and his antics as well as his promises of a better and easier life if you just accept him as your father. I find myself in the spot of Faith more often in life than not, no purpose, desperate, depressed. Then Joseph came along and suddenly you had a purpose. You weren't a nobody anymore, you had reason to be happy again. What I mean is, I totally get Faith. I get why she joined, why she believed it. Because I'm in a similar position myself like she was before she came across Joseph. This is how cults work and with a charismatic leader like Joseph, unhappy people will join you left right and center. Not saying I would join but I get why people do it. Furthermore, Joseph always warns us about impending doom, the collapse as he likes to call it. Is he wrong? Aren't we always almost at war with each other? Sooner or later something will happen, it just needs one fool to light the match and a chain reaction will start that drags the whole world into it. He isn't a false prophet, he is quite cunning in warning us about future events that will eventually happen. This is what makes him my number 1 villain. Or isn't he a true villain after all?

Sounds like the Jackal. He's not a charismatic leader but he never tries to harm the player. He's not even a faction boss; he's literally just a Nietzsche-qouting merchant who happens to deal in arms. He also has a really cool cancer allegory between himself and the unnamed country and it seems his meeting the journalist changed him (jackal tapes). Plus he gets a "heroic" death or as close as one can get in the darkest and most grounded entry in the franchise.

Jackal always saw the main character as an equal. At the beginning of the game he stood taller but at the end he stood equal. He was a Man of his words, whatever choice you make Jackal dies with you in the end. He didn’t fear anything and his only drive was to simply end a war. He saves you every time you meet with him. Which gives whatever character you choose in Far Cry 2 the lightest bit more special. He also gave a quote that damn near compares to Vaas’s insanity quote. “You can’t break a man the way you break a horse or a dog, the harder you break a man, the taller he stands”. It’s shows his commitment and I feel contrasts very nicely with all the other Villians in Far Cry. Seeing their backstory’s shows what they did and how they did bigger than what themselves expected. What you see with the Seed family, Vaas, Pagan etc. Jackal is the foundation of the Far Cry Villains.

Jackal is the greatest FC antagonist for two reasons : First he's nicely written, introduced and useful, he needs the protagonist all way long to make the story end (you help him pass weapons for civilians, he help you not to die in a desert storm, you finally help him die as urself. He is as useful as you to the scenario. Secondly he's the only one not having ridiculously violent scenes just to tell the player : "Oh look that's the Bad Guy, cause he makes Bad Guy things" like Pagan or Vaas. I'll always remember how Michael Mando and Vaas weren't even supposed to be villains of Far Cry 3. Mando quite literally just stumbled onto the casting room, uninvited. His performance was so beloved by the casting director that their original villain plan was scrapped, and Mando was brought on as the new antagonist Vaas. Giancarlo Esposito is terrifying. But Michael Mando is fucking menacing.

I think my biggest issue with Anton isn't Anton himself I find his backstory of him having been imprisoned and sentenced to fifteen years of hard labor in Yara's tobacco fields, his relationship with his father which he continues with Diego, and especially the part where he talks about talking with father while in a cell no the issue for me by far was the relationship between Anton and the Protagonist in most of the other games I played which was FC3, FC4, and FC5 the relationship between the Main Villain and Protagonist felt intensely personal -Vaas and Jason develop an almost reflective duality between each other with one representing the end and the other the beginning with Jason completing his journey by turning into Vaas metaphorically and the fact that Vaas kills his brother Grant in front of him helps a lot -Pagan and Ahjay are basically family which adds an emotional touch to the story and I personally liked that softer connecting link between villain and protagonist especially with how it ties into the main character Ajay getting roped into a war he wants no part in because of his gullible nature derviign from his heartfelt wish to just spread his mothers ashes and be with lakshmana -The Deputy and Joseph Seed the two of them are bitter enemies with the latter basically destroying the formers entire life's work and family the two of them are then locked in a bunker isolated and alone with each other it makes for a really disturbing and haunting ending

I went back & played all the Far Cry's again from 3 to 6. Whilst some characters are a bit meh, New dawn & primal there is some absolute bangers! My favourite is Joseph, whilst Vaas & Pagan are amazing as well, with Joseph I felt a real hatred for him at first, but as the story progressed I felt sympathy for him, he just wanted to be left in peace! It was just something about him, whether it be the menu music, the settings or atmosphere it was just something that really clicked with me. The end cutscene at first I decided to walk away (not knowing that wasn't the actual ending) I never realized you weren't meant to walk away until about 6 months later when me & a friend played through it all over again & decided to do both endings! For me Joseph will always be number 1, just something about the writing made me really resonate with him!

I also love the Jackal tapes in Far Cry 2 because they really show his Nietzschian philosophies and how aware he is of his surroundings. FC2's story was simple but that man vs man story was still well done and it seemed perfect to follow it up with man vs nature in FC3. Regardless a story that makes us question humanity and warfare is something we haven't seen since because Far Cry is now too busy repeating the same thing.

Honestly as much as this won’t happen. I want a far cry game where the villain is someone who you’re forced to cooperate with. Like both you and the villain are tied together and MUST cooperate to get out because he got you both in a situation that will have you both killed but you need each other in order to live creating this crazy dynamic and more time with a villain who can at some point run off for some big huge showdown or maybe bring in that secondary villain so around the end the two characters don’t exactly have to agree or get along but they find a common purpose to not kill each other seamlessly work together and the level progression could be tied to it as well. Instead of “leveling up” or upgrading some system it’s like “oh these guys trust each other just enough to show some of their tricks and teach the other to do it yet enough to make both characters feel different to play giving you a good reason to swap between the two

Solid list until the end. I hate when people rank Vaas as the best villain of all the games. He's just an insane drug lord, his motivation for what he does is purely for evil and profit. That's generic and uninteresting. Pagan Mins motivation was to be closer to his step son, that's why Yuma Paul and Noer ruled while he was a recluse. That's way more interesting and layered than an insane drug lord who just wants money and chaos.

But from what I've seen from playthroughs, they wouldn't get close to the top 5 anyway... And I'm not going to put in the villains of Blood Dragon, 1 and the Instincts games because they were obvious B-movie villains. They did their job for the plot, but were never meant to be very complex characters.

@@ioio2216 In Far Cry 2 you had allies/buddies you could help with their side missions. Helping them upgraded your savehouses, which helped with making the game a little bit easier since you could get supplies there like syringes, grenades, etc. These buddies came to rescue you if you were downed in a fight. They also could die during the side missions or when rescuing you, which meant you had a buddy less to rely upon if something happened to you. That actually meant quite a bit in the incredibly hostile environment of Far Cry 2. However, at the end of the game all the buddies that are still alive betray you and try to kill you because they want the suitcase of diamonds you have (which you want to use to bribe the guards at the border). Basically more buddies that are alive during the game make the game slightly easier, but the final firefight will be a lot harder.

The best villains are those that have been fleshed out the most, along with stellar performances by the actors portraying them. This is why my favorites are Vaas and Joseph. Michael Mando and Greg Bryk just steal the show and run away with it. The fact that the characters actually look like the actors helps a lot. Many great performances are dulled by the CGI treatment.

Krieger isn't only antagonist in Far Cry 1. There's Doyle, and he's the actual plot twist in the end. While Krieger was obvious villain, Doyle was the one actually helping you get out of the island and save Val, or at least you think he's helping you. At the end of the game, after you defeat Krieger, Doyle reveals himself as traitor who wants to sell super serum on the black market, going as far as to trick Jack and Val into injecting themselves with mutagen before eliminating Krieger and most of his mercenaries and trigens. I'm not saying that it suddenly makes the plot so much better, just pointing it out.

I agree about Anton Castillo, indeed he was played with a famous and favorite actor according to his role in Gustavo Fring, But it's hard to know that in Farcry 6 it's less scary and pathetic as a villain in Far Cry, Anton Castillo is just an evil dictator just because he's a dictator, nothing more than that. the roles are also very few and the ending is anti-climax which makes the final boss just break into his office instead of fighting him (also made worse by the difficulty level that is too easy)

I liked Anton he did seem like a really interesting character and could’ve been based on so many Caribbean/South American dictators. But I agree he really wasn’t present in much of the game and didn’t really interact with the protagonist very much, I personally think the reason behind that is probably the cost. More screen time means more time and dialogue that you have to pay Esposito for and since he’s a well known actor so his pay is probably one of the biggest expenses on voice actors in the game. But least Esposito definitely killed the role!
