One of the biggest reasons I was hyped and played Far Cry 3 was because the setting looked similar to FC1. Chaotic and gorgeous tropical islands filled with abandoned WW2 era Japanese bunkers. FC1 still has a special place in my heart. Those graphics were insane from 2004...

Far Cry has always sort of had this problem where it wants you to take it seriously while it also wants to be an action movie. This is why I adore Far Cry 2 and Blood Dragon so much. Blood Dragon fully embraced the whacky, stupid shit. Immersion doesn't matter if the game is self aware to that point. You're having so much fun you don't even realize it. On the complete other side you have Far Cry 2. There's no action movie here, it's just sending a message that Africa doesn't give a fuck if you're alive or dead. I really wish we'd get another Far Cry game that took this route but I don't think Ubisoft would want to alienate casual players in such a way.

It's a shame that Ubisoft knows just how much they have to avoid cranking out a game like FC2 again. In the market right now, they have to be able to keep gamers in their chairs for the spectacle each game gives them. Far Cry 2 was a patient man's gold mine, whereas Far Cry 3 was their version of a winning lottery ticket for players.

Far cry 2 was a remarkable game, no detection meter from the enemies and even no mini map but an actual physical map to hold on to. The combat was so realistic. you'd be walking around in the jungle then all of a sudden someone starts shooting you and you'd be in shock to where the shots came from, like I said there's no detection meter and not even a little radar map on your screen like these other far cry games where it shows you where the enemy is located. I even panicked whenever that happened and ended up pressing the wrong controls to switch my weapons lol. even when you're under heavy fire and your gun starts jamming because you haven't properly maintained it, It's a fucking good game.

I hate doing side stuff in games because I feel like I'm wasting my time, but this is one of the only games where I actually felt like doing them. Far cry 4 was actually my favourite. I just made more memories than in far cry 3. I absolutely loved how it was the first time where it was truly debatable whether the rebels or the military were the bad guys. It was the first time I felt compassion for the main villain. It was also really cool jumping into it after playing far cry 3 and seeing a much broader weapon selection. Every far cry does this, but Far cry 4 made me feel the most as if I were smaller than the world.

As someone who started with 2, think FC4 marks a sweet spot in the series because it carried over 3’s formula while it was still refreshing and new, but it built upon it with great features, like a broader weapon selection, co-op functionality, a bigger world and beautiful setting, and the arena levels and fortresses which I absolutely loved. While 2 is my favorite and 3 probably comes right after, 4 is certainly no slouch and it also occupies a special place in my heart.

What's so good about Far Cry 3 ? Seriously, have I missed something ? It was a good game, sure, but seems pretty overrated to me. Just Cause 2 does mostly everything Far Cry 3 did but better (starting with the tropical visuals. Far Cry 3 being way to green/bland/generic/repetitive to this). Vaas was a good antagonist but not that memorable. Just a gang boss with discount Joker surface shenanigans. Game become repetitive after a few hours. Even the famous weed mission was hardcarried by the music, cause visuals are action were pretty mid.

As much as i love Just Cause 2, it kinda doesn't punish you for dying when you messed up on bases, and if you look at speed run videos, there are a lot more creativity with Far Cry 3s physics then Just Cause 2.

Most of the people who praise it are the young bucks who missed far cry 2 and entered into the franchise at during 3. So they have a more nostalgic feeling for it. I played it and beat it when it came out and it didn’t do anything that made me ever want to revisit it again. Even now at 26 I still see no reason to. Hell it went backwards in some areas like the atmosphere and the beauty that was the fire mechanic in far cry 2. Also no buddies anymore. Best thing to happen in far cry 3 was the wing suit.

Pagan is not a bad guy at his beginning but he became a soulless bad guy after he and ajays father beat the king. Look at his story and see his transformation. At the beginning of FC4 he was only relying on his person cult but there was nothing left, only the broken man. He was the king of kyrat because he was still a good politican, but he knew his time would be over after the final win over the golden path and his governeurs would start the war on each other to get crown. His game was one Quarter of Kyrat for each governeur and he with person cult is the clue to keep this going. Ajay was the savior and so a man with a very good potentional to be the next person cult, but with the help and support of pagan. Pagan was always the man behind the scenes. He helped him to get what he want from the beginning (to get rid of his past). At the beginning back then of pagans raising to be the king pagan was a savior! Ajay was nothing more then the eyes of his dream, his child from his dream, the only love that was his dream. He realized that but this was left from his soul a dream that was never more then a dream.

I vaguely remember far cry instincts had a custom gamemode online for 360 where you could use map editor and people created a gamemode where you were in jail and other players were prison guards (basically cops and robbers) it was so much fun!

My top 3: 1. Far Cry 3. Had a bit of everything, such a memorable villain and a good main character arc, really cool spiritual missions and mix of outposts and hunting, beautiful place, and a separate story campaign for co-op. So great, more bang for your back! 2. Far Cry Primal. Loved the change from modern weaponry and the map was beautiful, the characters were likable (especially Karoosh, Dah and Roshani), and it was fun as hell to throw bee hives, club dudes in the head as a knockout, and ride around on bears. 3. Far Cry 2. Despite the buggy AI, it had a very realistic and depressing look at how African countries were (still are at times today tbh), a realistic and immersive way of navigating the world, a huge world and an awesome experience in a hellish nightmare of a war-torn country.

Honestly had a blast playing far cry instincts evolution and predator on xbox live back in the day. Predator filled this weird niche for a while prior to Halo 3 coming out by having a really interesting map editor that created all kinds of different levels to play including gamemodes where it was mercs vs predators on horror inspired maps. There was also puzzle maps, skill maps all that kind of stuff years before Halo 3 forge maps.

You guys probably discovered the 4 before the 3. As a big Far Cry 3 player, with hundreds of hours in, you see the 4 as a scam. Plot's not great, lack of a really charismatic villain like Vaas, nothing new... Looks like a reskin, and that is not as enjoyable as the 3. For a game where features and new gameplay mechanics / physics / graphics are the main thing, it's rather disappointing. It is not bad. But one of the least remarkable at release.

  • @forcelightningcable9639
    @forcelightningcable9639 Жыл бұрын

Having played both 3 and 4 pretty recently and throughly, I can say that 4 is like a (mostly) successful attempt at a polished 3, like all the ideas that devs got while doing 3 but couldn’t implement in time are 4, with the core experience of 3 mostly intact. now ofc, villain personality is a whole aspect of that core experience and, despite how charming Pagan undoubtedly is, like seriously, I’d actually want to kick it with him for funsies-can’t say the same about Vass 😳-the sheer shocking abandon with which the devs molded both Vaas as a compelling character and the game as a package; story, sound, mechanics, and honestly general understanding of its audience and what it wanted to say, was pretty unprecedented at the time, and the reason we love and remember Vaas so fondly is because he was the personification of that statement and of the holistic game experience. This is also why every game since focused on the villain as the player’s primary attraction to playing it. Every game since, especially in its villains but in general, follows the pace that 3 set, and that’s why it’s the game that tops everyone’s lists, and why the later games feel increasingly stale to some players (looking at you, 6).

I pretty much agree with the list although for me 5 overtakes 3, while 3 is the game that brought me into the series and caused me to explore it a little more, 5 was just amazing, the world looks stunning and i'd often find myself just staring at a mountain or valley because of how beautiful the scenery is. the story is pretty well written too and although not as likeable as vaas, i really think joseph embodies the perfect "persuasive cult leader" that makes for a compelling antagonist. with the siblings only strenghtening that. and dont even get me started on the music, i still find myself going back to the music of far cry 5, which at times just gives the perfect USA backcountry vibes, making you stop and chill rather than the constant shooting and killing. so yea, for me, far cry 5 is top of the list with 3 holding a special 2nd place

I love far cry 4 a lot more than 3 but only because I played 4 first. Everything just felt smoother because it was newer but maybe it’s just my nostalgia I don’t know I can appreciate far cry 3 tho still a great game.

This dude has the worst ranking of FC ever, to have FC4 and FC5 that low as you say and even New Dawn that low, almost makes it impossible to even comment on it because it’s such horseshit, worst ranking I’ve ever seen tbh.

Far Cry Primal was my favorite. I got so immersed in it, I was able to recognize words in the three tribes' dialects and use that to my advantage. They're saying "predator"? Let me sneak up the other way and pick them off while they're dealing with that. They're saying "Weenja"? that means they've either spotted me or someone from my tribe, I have to move fast. It made me appreciate how even small innovations and bits of knowledge could be incredibly valuable to early humans. Now if only there was a way to remove Urki from the game...
