Felt like this whole scene was about people fighting depression and that it takes those that care the most to help pull you out of the darkness.

And that it takes us a conscious decision every day to fight back. It’s a constant bombardment of voices saying to give up and stay put, and they WILL trip you up and make you fall, but it’s the getting up and running up that seemingly insurmountable hill that matters. Sometimes it takes music, friends, a piece of candy, a skateboard, Glamour Shots, you name it, to pull you out, but you keep going.
The ending shot, with the friends holding each other, the sun going down, perfect.

@@carsanmar13 They do it so well, don't they? With the music and everything. I think it's meant to be an allegory for depression and overcoming it. In fact at the end she says, "I'm still here" as if to say, she chooses to stay alive at least for another day. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but its so incredibly well done regardless.

Normally, I would think that. Not here. I write short films and try to do the same thing here for emotional value. The scene to me played out more like a victory anthem. Regardless of the outcome I knew in this moment of memories,She was beating the darkness he put in her. So the whole time my heart was glowing with the scene, No fear just happy, I knew the point of the memories immiediently, It was saying she is regaining control and she did! Not a farewell, But A Victory!

@@jsbaldo5556 I'd say up until the montage started, it was unclear if she will survive. But I agree with your take. The montage was a visualization of Max building up self-confidence and courage through her good memories, and it was telegraphing that she is about to take back the power in this situation. @@huwdavies-tallon3305exactly, character montages usually signal the end for someone which is a trope thus giving the impression she would die then and there. Brilliantly done.
Watching this for the first time I thought "This is the scene. The one where every single one of us is united in what we want to see happen." An entire fandom held their breath together, cried together, and celebrated together.
That scene was epic and the greatest moment in the history of television. Everything was perfect, the scenes, the music especially the timing of it and the perfect song. Sadie Sink deserves an Emmy for her performance for not just this episode but the whole season she was amazing.
the whole thing is such a clear metaphor about depression and getting out of it... everyone got it, and that speaks about the quality of the writing this season and the acting, the girl playing Max is obviously very talented, she was the standout for me... she's going places

@@weeshirley5934 Same. I cried hard. This scene is so well done on all levels. But it’s the intense emotions fighting the demon that I think stirs up our own emotional fights with demons . I know I’ve been in some mentally dark places where I’ve had to fight my way out with my own courage and of course music. 🥲 Don’t get me wrong, our investment in the show and in the character Max certainly played a role with everyone’s emotional reaction. I just think this scene also pulled at everyone on a personal level - thus the many tears. I couldn’t even pinpoint the exact reason at first. At a surface level, she’s just running away from a monster in a sci-fi show. But the music, the themes, max’s desperation, the gang’s tangible fear, it was all so emotional. What an amazing scene.
The scene and song that has taken the world by storm.
I'm 33 y/o now and this scene made me feel like I was a little boy scared under the bed!!! AMAZING Scene, Amazing performance
I cried so hard during this scene. I kept screaming, “Run Max! Run!” They definitely knew what they were doing for us all with this and Eddie’s guitar scene.
The Duffy Brothers are absolute geniuses. The build up and tension of the scene, Sadie Sink's incredible performance, the flashbacks & of course, the music of Kate Bush that has been our soundtrack of summer 2022. Ah, Stranger Things. Brilliant.
I've watched both of your compilation videos and countless other channels reacting to this and I cry Every. Single. Time. Cut to black was the perfect length.
I think what makes Vecna scary apart from appearance and how he makes an entrance is the fact thag he targets those who hit the absolute low and barely got the energy to fight back in their own. Max got out because her friends didn't give up on her and did everything they could to get her back and it worked, that gave her the energy to fight Vecna and get out of the darkness.
This scene is a fucking masterpiece! It's unbelievable how much they touched all of us no matter how soft or rough we are. Max is incredible and Sadie Sink deserves some kind of reward.
Watching this scene was a rush! I wasn’t even alive in the 1980s but still felt an intense burst of nostalgia from this scene. So many emotions releasing in my soul. The music gives me major chills! Go Max! ❤️🥲

No matter how many times I watch this scene (knowing full well what's going to happen), I feel the same sense of suspense and anticipation and it never fails to bring tears to my eyes.
I lost my best friend to suicide this year and this scene absolutely destroyed me. To anyone struggling, the world is better with you in it, keep fighting.
4:56 -- GO MAX GO ..........RUN , best part .
Preview’ds reaction was so wholesome
So much of the emotional buildup comes from the unbelievably stellar song choice, but frick man, those few seconds of Max’s sheer desperation while she’s running in slow motion with everything falling around her…. Her performance was simply phenomenal.
A freaking master piece on editing. Perfect scene. The more I watch it the more I love it.
I have ready watched the season so far and watching this scene and everyone's reactions, I literally cried the entire time. I already knew what was coming but it doesn't matter. The emotion this scene creates is just that powerful and seeing everyone feel what you feel in that moment makes it so much more powerful. I love this show and I'm sad that it's ending but I can't wait to see how it's gonna top this.
I rode an individual rollercoaster with each and every reaction. This scene was done so well.
The editing here was the single greatest scene in the entire Stranger Things series, so full of emotional imagery with how the memories of her past flashed before her very eyes much in the same way they say your life as whole flashes before your eyes before you die, perfectly conveys the feeling "Don't give up, there is so much to live for" with the song playing and getting louder with the words "If I Only could, make a deal with God, and get him to swap our places, be running up that road, be running up that hill, no problems..." all while Max is running for her life to get to salvation, this is how real magic happens and the reason Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill hit song from 1985 has made it all the way up to the number 1 spot globally 37 years later and has made Kate Bush almost 2.5 million dollars and counting in just over a month, I've always loved this song, there is also a slower more haunting version of this song by Placebo that came out in 2010 for the movie Daybreakers that is featured in the movie trailer
The lady right at 15:52 was great lol! Loved how she was like "I swear to you-!" as she's giving 2 middle fingers when the screen goes black! (I was right there with her when I watched it the first time!)
This is the BEST scene from the series, what a emotional ride, excellent work .
pReview'd was legit my reaction the first time & I can't grasp how happy I was to see everyone's reaction and just in general that Max made it out because I was going to still be in tears and I wouldn't watch the rest of the season.
Really relieved my husband and I weren't alone in our reaction to this!
OMG this was THE BEST to watch. So intense for everyone. I loved how every single one got angry at the black screen, then immediately relieved it kept going, just like me.
It’s quite nice to know that scene had a lot of people in tears ahaha
The series has found a pretty good way to describe depression. If you take away the supernatural and see everything purely psychologically.
This episode needs an Emmy Award.
That scene hit me so hard, I started taking antidepressants about three months ago because I’ve been struggling with mental health for a long time but not long ago I was off work for three weeks because I didn’t get out of bed for days, didn’t eat nothing just laid there crying my eyes out, numb everywhere. The medication is helping so far, this scene in particular is so relatable, depression trying so hard to take you away but if you think about those you love so much you can get past it, I’m running from vecna each day of my life just like max did here, aka running away from mental health each day, hope if anyone else is struggling, remember you’re not alone ❤️❤️

his is one of the best and most powerful moments in tv history. I love that episode so much!
I love that the men here aren't afraid to cry. The scenes, the music, the the build up is A LOT...and I tear up seeing it as well, even seeing all these reactions make me misty :) This was so big for Max as well, not only is she defeated Vecna, in a way she's taking back her life, and not succumbing to her mental illness either. Lots of good meanings.
Episode 4 and 7 are so sick. But the twist with Henry are not a surprise for me.
The way i thought she died when it went dark. I CANNOT.
“Are her ankles okay?!“ Also my concern 😫
Ooohhh i still remember the first time I watched this scene in episode i cannot forget this scene ever ❤️
This is like perfect scene. Dark, scary, glimpse of light in the dark, life flashes in your eyes and you remember all the good stuff, you get stronger, you run through tough obstacles while your favorite epic 80's song is playing in the background, your friends are there for you. Then it all goes black. Either she dies or doesn't, anything can happen. Truly best TV I've seen in a long time.

My prediction for the end of the season will be that they realize that it’s not the music that saves you. It’s opening up and connecting with people about your repressed feelings that saves you from Vecna. Vecna is real and he lives in the mental illness inside all of us.
