He was the most amazing musician. He was the best I’ve ever seen live on the piano as well. His prince and a piano tour blew his audience away ❤

I have heard that he was one hell of a drummer also. His longtime drummer the late John Blackwell says Prince would show him how he wanted a piece to be played. If you have every seen John Blackwell play the drums you would be amazed at anyone telling him how to play drums.

There's a guy who used to go to my church who played the organ and when he found out that prince passed away, before church service started, he was like 75 and he was playing the end of Purple Rain after The Kid's dad had been in a hospital laying on the floor on top of his father's written music. Another lady started playing her acoustic guitar. My brother played the drums and he had those soft sticks and he was playing with tears in his eyes. I got on the keyboard and just played to my hearts content. My father was a pastor and as soon as we were done, he applauded and said "my favorite musicians!"and whistled. I've always loved music but he never liked the music I liked. He liked jazz and gospel. Now that I've gotten older, he's been so understanding and I appreciate it.

I was blessed to have a friend who’s girlfriend was a Prince nut This goes back to 1980 and she would always pull out his cassettes and cd’s and fill me in on how talented he was she would always point out the credits where it showed he did almost everything. Then one day I was cutting school riding on the graffiti strewn 4 train and someone wrote “ Michael is coming but Prince is here! That summer purple rain came out and then I totally got what they meant. I went and bought every Prince album and just digested it all. Then in the summer of 88 I went to my first Prince concert the love sexy tour at msg in nyc and I was totally floored and hooked. I got scalped tickets that I bought right in front of msg and it was like 2nd row seats. And I never missed a Prince concert again whenever he played in the tristate area. It was always a spiritual event at his concerts and some may say I’m over exaggerating but for those that have seen him up close and live they understand what I’m saying and for those that never got to see him live. I’m sorry for you. He was truly a once in a lifetime groove. We ain’t going to see that kind of energy and talent in this lifetime again. That I truly believe !! Such a freaking God send he was truly missed!

My favorite Prince moment was singing with him in front of 25000 people in Knoxville, TN on the Musicology Tour in 2004. 3 lines back and forth (Total of 6 lines) on Take Me With You. He broke into the chorus, tapped me on the shoulder and gave me a Thumbs up.

Awesome. At the remic arena in San Diego CA back in 99 I got to sign with Prince for a minute. He just gave me a smirk as he held some gold pistol mic from the first row. My wife was there for she took me. Wow, sobhe does this often.

I've been a fan since the 80s. Prince was my age. My cousin also my age, saw Prince playing at 1st Avenue before he "made it" , a friend hot invited to Paisley Park for one of his personal performances. Unfortunately, I never saw him live. He was the Beethoven of our time, a musical genius. My favorite, of course is "Purple Rain" it is magical!

The thing about Prince is that you had to see him live to see how awesome he was. Since he would not allow any live performances to be posted on KZread the only way you would know how great he was would be by word of mouth. I have been a Prince fan since his very first album. I became a huge fan after watching him at a concert in Dallas. I can't tell you how times a musican has told me they had no idea how good Prince was until their girlfriend drug them to a Prince concert. Every last one of them say they were in amazement and it started their trip down the Prince rabbit hole. The reason why most say they never knew Prince was a great guitar player is because they never saw him live and he did not allow live performances to be released to the masses. I think it tarnished his career because many did not see his greatness til after is death.

@Grainraiser, I think you just revealed to me why certain standouts in the modern music era were so surprised at Prince's mastery of the guitar after all this time. Especially when you consider he has appeared on the cover of virtually every music magazine published including those dedicated to the guitar, & bass. To hear Billie Gibbons from ZZ Top say " I never knew he was so good as a live guitar player" left scratching my head like- "and what planet have you been hiding on?" ( I recommend you check out a fascinating one on one he had with Art Thompson of Guitar Player magazine back in 1998 era upon the release of his Rave Unto the Joy Fantastic album. To me that album featured a wide range spectrum of some of his most mind bending, menacing & spiritual mastery over the guitar I had ever heard up to that point. When Art pressed him on how on earth he pulled off a series of riffs on one song from that album, Prince just simply told him- "You'll have to die if I tell you ) While alive he wielded complete control over how much of the public got to see his live performances thru video. For the most part if you got to see his live performances, it usually was when he made guest appearances on talk shows, or award shows. None of which would really capture the essence of his incredible talent unless you saw him during his concerts- I attended 3 of them. One couple I met told me that they couldnt explain why they hadn't owned one Prince album, yet would not allow anything to get in the way of attending his live concerts. "This cat is so incredible." They told me. Another attendee told me that he had attended enough of his concerts to confirm what he had been told years earlier: that Prince never played Purple Rain live the same way twice. He always re-created it. After Prince pelt out one of his infamous high pitched drawn out screams during one of those concerts that leveled the entire audience, a woman who sat if front of me whispered to me: "I just wanted to let you know I just wet my panties". (Thank God my wife sitting right next to me didnt hear her say that!) But you nailed it. It was only after he died that so many well known artists discovered upon revewing his old concert footage, and agreed with what so many studio musicians knew along when they personally saw what this guy was capable of during his studio sessions: "This guy is a freakin genius!"

I have seen him in concert 3 times and I was in awe each and every time. I have been told that he was a hell of a drummer and was able to show John Blackwell exactly how he wanted a part played. To think you can show John Blackwell anything regarding drum playing is scary. I have searched high and low to find one clip of Prince playing drums but nothing has been released as of yet. The closest I found was interview in which a guy said he saw Prince play drums and told him he was impressed with his playing. Prince nodded his head and said I can't rip the skins like John can, can I.

Well it's easier to find than you think! Prince let the Lovesexy tour show in Germany (Livesexy I think is what it was called for the concert) get telecast on tv, and that video is alive and well on youtube. RIght about the middle of the concert he switches places with Sheila E. as she takes the mic and he sits in at drums. That show is astounding! The horn section and arrangements he's having them play are incredible too. It really is a must see if you are discovering Prince live shows. @@Grainraiser

If I had a magic wand, I think I'd like first and foremost to see Prince and Joni Mitchell do a duet on acoustic guitars. He was so tuned into her musically from a very early age (I think his Dad took him when he was a kid to see Joni play at least one time). I've been listening to Prince's unreleased work from 1976-1978 in recent weeks, featuring more of his acoustic guitar playing. I think he was trained enough to Joni's sound that he would have been able to blend in with both her guitar playing style, and her vocal style, and the two honestly could have created some truly heavenly sounding songs. I didn't realize Joni Mitchell was Canadian! I'm (African/Black) American and I mostly know of her because my Dad had some of her albums back in the 1970s that he would play at home. Quite the songstress and a HUGE influence on Prince. 💜🕊

There's a 14 yr old guitar phenom Taj Farrant that has been playing Purple Rain since he was 10. A year ago he played a show in Arkansas and Prince's musical director Morris Hayes came to see him. He was amazed by Taj. He has even played Purple Rain and The Sky is Crying with Taj at his shows. Taj is from Australia and his family has moved to the US to further his career. Taj was the youngest player to be signed by Gibson at 10 and he has played with Carlos Santana, Orianthi, Rob Thomas, Christone Kingfish Ingram and Eric Gales. Taj is catching the attention of many guitar players and the industry. In the past year he has released 4 original songs Crossroads, Cruz, Bad Trip and House Always Wins. They all went to #1 on the worldwide iTunes blues charts. He just finished recording his album working with Ken Lewis. It will be out later this summer. Taj will be opening for Buddy Guy for a few of his shows, playing at some of the big blues festivals and is a performer on Joe Bonamassa's blues cruise. My favorite cover that Taj does during his shows is Gary Moore's Parisienne Walkways. Since you don't want to see a cover of Purple Rain check out Taj playing Parisienne Walkways. kzread.info/dash/bejne/goGY07htqMm7lZc.htmlsi=rq0dkjeovryPfS_N Maybe if you like it you could react to Taj playing The Sky is Crying. I suggest his performance of it in Tulsa Oklahoma. Taj sings too. For Prince a great interview is with his his musical director Morris Hayes on The Wings of Pegasus channel. Fil did it in 4 parts. Very good!

Hon, just subbed, I have loved Prince since the 70s, I was 14/15 back in 78/79. And I fell head over heels and I knew he was like no other a true one of a kind. And I want to tell you this about him... and even he himself said it often, and that is it was God who made it possible to do what he could do... it was the Lord working through that man shining through him. He did the unthinkable where do you think it all came from? I realize when we die here people think op well its over there gone that's the end of that... Right? Wrong. I'm gonna take this to a very different place now... When Prince left this realm the Lord showed me things, I'm a born again believer have heard the voice of the Lord since I was a child and the Lord has shown me many many things over the last 18 years, that's when the Lord called to me, but the one thing that the Lord showed me and told me was that Prince went home to Him. Its a way way longer story then that but lets just leave it there for the time being. You may be out of your body when you leave here but the YOU that IS YOU your still very much alive and Prince is very much alive trust me on that. I want to say this about Prince too... As magnificent as Prince was as an artist hes an even better man and most people stop at his artistry but they seem to miss the man underneath all of that artistry. And when I was growing up I took up guitar lessons, but I had too many home distractions to really focus on what I was doing when I went to my lessons. How good or bad I was I cant say but there were 2 things that maybe stood out at least to me anyway one I did play by ear a bit it was smoke on the water maybe everyone can do that the other thing was my teacher told me ok you play lead and I'll follow. I started to play and he said wo wo wo I thought I was doing something wrong he said no but here I am all this time trying to teach you how to play rock and roll and here you are a blues player... lol I am??? Well I've always loved R&B and Soul so.... I have 2 guitars here and my first guitar is in storage, must be sawdust by now, but I would love to play again just dont know if I can cause I suffer from neuropathy in my fingers they hurt some ok more then some and I never forgot the pain those strings caused me too it might be worse now. I nearly had my ring finger all the way L angled back. Do you think I should just forget that idea now? Or should I try? Do you teach? There a charge? Either way great video I thank you for it. If I had money I'd do the patron thing. Peace.

A freind of mine often referred to his musical collection as "all things Prince". He once showed his collection. It consisted of Purple Rain, Dirty Mind, 1999, Parade & Sign O' The Times. "NOT BAD" I told him. Then I told him about the purple library we had compiled down thru the years. He told me he hadn't paid much attention to Prince after 1987. I asked him if we could put together a CD for him that would represent a diversified sampling of how wide range and spawling his vision was in the creating music. He said "Yeah sure" kind of non chalauntly, half interested. We selected a host of different songs Prince recorded, such as "Heaven", "Fascination", "Stone", "2020", "Billy With Sunglasses", "In a Dark Room With No Lights"- (2009 version), "Crystal Ball", "Old Friends 4 Sale", "Roadhouse Garden", "Others Here With Us", "Lavaux". He calls me back about 3 weeks later freaking out because he had NO idea Prince could not only venture into so many different genre's of music so seemlessly, but also master the heck out of it when he did. "This dude is friggin UNREAL! I'm tired of being stuck in this Purple Rain era, I gotta get out more!" He said. Now he is expanding on his library which he swears will include "94 East, Minneapolis Sound, all the way thru Deliverance, the final studio work, though not released album Prince had developed prior to his passing.

I agree. I don't want to see anyone touch Purple Rain. Having said that I was very touched that so many played it in tribute to him. Listening to them attempt it and falling short every time gives you an even deeper appreciation for it. A non musician like myself knows it's good but doesn't necessarily know why until hearing someone else try it. I've never picked up a guitar and probably never will but I can appreciate good music even if I don't understand what makes it good.

There is no guitar at the forefront but instead her singing and she is SUCH a MASTER how she handles the song. She's so inspired and heartbroken and soulful. What I find interesting from general folks debating how good prince is was that I don’t argue with people. I just say listen to his professional peers regarding his talent. I was a teenager in the eighties. I’ve always been a fan and got to see him live just before he passed. The man was other worldly. In answer to your question, I’d have loved to have seen him do a different arrangement of the song he wrote “nothing compares to you” with Sinèad O’Conner. But also would have liked to see him do a guitar battle with Stevie Ray Vaughan.

I like to play and have been told I have a bit of a gift. I saw Prince in TO🇨🇦. I didn’t pick up an instrument for over a month afterward. I thought why bother?…. He did more in two and a half hours than I could do in two and a half lifetimes….Speaking of Purple Rain, it was the last song of the show. As we left the arena, people kept singing the closing part of the song on the streets-then the subway-then down the streets to our house. When we arrived at our entrance, we were alone but still singing it. The neighbour pulled up, exited his car, and started laughing! He said, “What a show eh?”..”I work there and see all the shows. I honestly have to say I’m very jaded, but that fucking guy is the best I’ve ever seen!” …..I love Prince! Always have. My metal friends used to ride me all the time about him…. Many humbly said I was right after they saw the Hall of Fame performance.

To be honest...I would enjoy seeing Prince play with anyone, because he could!...but now I'm thinking on this one...hmmm. Definitely H.E.R. For some crazy reason Ye (formerly known as Kanye West haha!) comes to mind...the creative energy would be out of this world. Same with Kendrick Lamar, Anderson Paak, or Tupac Shakur. I think Prince and Janet Jackson or FKA twigs would be pure bliss. ...I'm probably still thinkin' about this! lol Heeeyyy Congrats on the 15k subs!!! 👏🎊

It's rumored that in the early 2000's Prince was strongly considering forming a super group with Tommy Lee on the drums and Dave Navarro trading off with Prince on guitar/bass!!! IRONICALLY, Tommy Lee ended up being with Mayte Garcia, former wife of Prince; and Dave Navarro marrying Carmen Electra, former protege/muse of Prince!!! I wonder how that would have worked out after!! lol !!! You could make a video on "The Famous Women Romantically Linked With Prince and The Male Celebrities Who Ended Up With Them After"!! It'll be a long list too!!!! lol! r.i.p. 🙏 0(-+>

Hey there is a video of Prince and the Rev ACTUALLY MAKING THE SONG PURPLE RAIN FOR THE ALBUM! If you have not seen it reply to this and I will dig up the link. It is so surreal to watch them play and every last inflection and note is what we have all heard...except...... there is MORE to it! He is obviously working out what he wants for the guitar solo, and one part in particular he repeats over and over because he realizes it will be a very important part of the solo. I think he plays it 3 times as long as the edit version for the album. Anyway, just an incredible piece to find being able to see him actually creating that masterpiece.
