    My “favorite” part was when she yelled at kids. Yelled at them in an effort to “release” them from their beliefs. But it’s okay for her to cram her beliefs up in other peoples faces, especially kid size people, yet if someone tells “Jesus loves you” it’s time to grab the torches and pitchforks and hunt them Christians down? Hypocrisy. Hollywood style.

    @Joe Distefano In a sense that's right. I'm a philosophy student, so basically all the depression that comes from a lack of purpose and objectivity would be particularly haunting. Living without God just seems like a nightmare in comparison, I'd have nothing to anchor myself to - and then the uncertainty of death. Living with God, I can have confidence in the existence of purpose, objectivity and life after death - and in living with God and loving Him and His Word, I don't need to fear Hell. Idk if that makes sense but ye

  • @trinityw6654

    @trinityw6654

    @Joe Distefano Perhaps I wasn’t clear either. Of course World #3 doesn’t exist, with a qualifier of “everyone is miserable.” When I talk about purpose, I talk about it in the objective moral essentialist sense - not naturalistic, relative or existentialist. The postmodern world, as I see it, is full of “miserable” (this may be the wrong word)) people refusing to confront the deeper existential matters, or ignoring blatant inconsistencies in their worldview. As a philosophy student, I wouldn’t be avoiding these, and as such, it would be difficult for me to remain in blissful ignorance. Now, my claim was that I had a similar fear for this life as I do the possibility of being damned to Hell. A life of great uncertainty, relativism, sentimentalism, fear, naturalism, inconsistency and nothing greater to guide me in how I should live - this just seems miserable, even if I chose ignorance, in which case, I deny myself. [also “uncertainty in death” because, even as a nonbeliever, the *possibility* of an eternal afterlife is a worry - mans knowledge of the mind after death is extremely limited (whip out a Pascal’s wager, maybe?)] The existentialist practice of creating my own purpose holds the same relativity that gives me little comfort - it simply distracts me from belief in the ultimate meaninglessness of my existence. This, unfortunately, is the sadness of many metaphysical/ethical philosophies. Debates arise that cause me to doubt my own ability to perceive and reason. The objectivity in nature gives some, but little, comfort - as there is nothing sacred about my humanity and nothing innate about my “rights.” Morality based on survival of the fittest only causes me to fear the consequences of my lower status. When it comes to survival, ends justify the means - and so the form of the means is permissible, supposing you can get away with it (humans are social animals, after-all, though only so far as it benefits them). There’s an element of your latter case that’s true - I don’t think as much of Hell because I have been assured of my not going there. However, it’s not a core reasoning. Of course, I fear for others - and its no wonder then that Christians evangelise, because who would wish eternal suffering upon someone else? (Though we cannot be certain concerning the “eternal” nature of the damnation of nonbelievers, nor what suffering Hell truly consists of - there’s much speculation - I also happen to be a theology student lol) [Your uses of the verses you refer to aren’t great - there’s are layers of exegesis to apply there. So I’m going to ignore that.] We love because God first loved us. I recall one theologian (I’d have to dig deep to find the name again) explained that every sin has an infinite quality, because it is against an infinite God. All of humanity, due to their depraved nature, is deserving of Hell - so believers rejoice in the price paid by Christ in His death and resurrection, for we could do nothing to merit salvation and He graced it to us. We grieve for those who refuse His gift, as God does. We can never know how many times God has shown mercy and grace to us, in sparing us from evils beyond what we have seen or experienced. It seems ridiculous to me that man would attempt to take the intellectual/moral high ground on the omnipotent, omniscient, perfect and infinite supreme good and truth - which is God - as if we could know better than Him.

    Hell is a place devoid of God, so in fear of going to hell you siamotainously fear being without God, so if you fear hell, you fear being without God, and that is why We fear hell. Because God is GOOD, and he sent a way for us to be with him, his only begotten Son, Jesus Christ to die for our sin, so that whoever believes in him will be saved! So we do not have to go to hell, it’s a choice to go to hell, if your drowning in a pool, the lifeguard will come by and save you from drowning, but is it the lifeguards fault if you decide to push him away and continue to drown? No, so why then is it Gods fault if someone chooses to push his sacrifice for us away?

    @Spenser Bryant The claim was from the Bible. We believe it's true. There would be false prophets saying that "God showed Himself here and there" even if He didn't. Matthew 24:24 For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. As for if God is going to move to let people know He's real, I believe the Holy Spirit is moving through a lot of people and showing up to them and helping them. There are a lot of testimonies of people whose lives are turned to a better one by God (this is a separate kind of testimony from the false ones, of course). I believe, and I heard this from Troy Black, a person I believe God uses as a prophet in this KZread platform, that the Holy Spirit's gonna move one last time to shake the world. And besides, Matthew 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

    @Joe Distefano i cannot tell you the "How" because what you have experienced in life is not the same as mine. I can tell you what I did but it might be different on "how" you are going to do it. In general, when we say "surrender" it means you are giving up your previous life that is not pleasing to God. In my case, fame, lusts, hurt from narc abuse, depression etc. I wanted to know what it feels to be at peace and joyous even in difficult times. I did not know how that feels . When I "surrendered" i prayed to God that I He help me. A lot of Christian friends have approached me , tried to help me but I used to ignore them and I didnt understand what they were saying. But I prayed to God, what I dont understand, I prayed He rest my heart and give me peace, I prayed that He help me overcome my sins and if He is true to change the way I think , because I dont think I understood Him before. Of course a lot of things in between my journey but I woke up one day thirsting for Him and I opened my Bible and read it. Ate and drank HIs Words. From there I understood what He meant by Saving me and my life questions has been answered. No man, pastor changed me. Not even my friends, Yes they were God's tool to bring me closer to God, but the change or "born again" part did not happen automatically. I prayed about it. Let go of myself and let God take over.

    Honestly, if an adult had yelled at me as a kid something like that I would know that my faith was true. It would be proof. That a stranger, and an adult, who knew nothing about me or my faith could be filled with such anger and lash out at kids. Especially since she’s saying the equivalent of, “you can get away with evil!” To kids. It is terrifying to hear the things she’s saying. Basically I feel terrified on her behalf for her, she really doesn’t know what she’s saying. And she needs prayer. Definitely will be praying for her.

    @Joe Distefano Our faith teaches about morality and teaches that God is good, has no evil in Him and is loving. As a kid, I wasn’t scared of God, I loved Him. The Bible teaches morality and it teaches that even though we can’t be perfect that we’re still saved simply by trusting and loving God. Believing in God’s promise that His Son willingly overcame death and took on our punishment for our sins. It’s a comforting faith. Because it both teaches good morals and teaches that even if you’re not perfect that’s okay, because God loves you so much that He took on our punishment for us. That’s why a stranger yelling at me would immediately prove to me that they’re wrong about everything they were saying. It would be like a stranger yelling at you that your dad isn’t real suddenly out of nowhere. But, you know your dad personally and you know that he’s a loving and good parent. And because you know your dad, you know that they’re wrong.

    @Joe Distefano It is difficult to explain but there is a personal connection with God. When I was a kid, if I was alone and sad I knew that God was there and saw me, that even if I felt invisible that I wasn’t. I actually had a very difficult childhood. I was born with trauma to my brain, and when I was really young went to special education, etc. I wasn’t unintelligent (I was tested and found to have above average intelligence), but I had an injury that meant I couldn’t learn like everyone else. For example, I couldn’t learn my ABCs visually, I had to write them in sand or learn in a tactile way. One of my early teachers told my parents that I’d never learn to read or write, Anyways, my early childhood I was alone. I had major struggles. But, even during that time in my life, I knew God. And I can’t explain it but despite everything that was going on at the time, deep down I was happy. I had joy. There wasn’t any explanation other than God. I could feel His presence. When I was ignored by everyone around me, I knew that I wasn’t really alone. I think we all have moments in our lives where we talk to God. Why do we do that? I was alone for years when I was really young. I had an open heart and wasn’t affected by politics nor anything at the time. But, I knew even at such a young age there was a God. I know a lot more now and the more I’ve learned, the more I know that God exists and that the Bible in particular is true. I admit when you’re really young you might not know all the particulars of each religion. But, I disagree with not knowing that there is a God. I experienced being completely alone and during that time, I never actually felt alone. And I can’t explain any more than that. There was no reason at all for me to have joy deep down when I should have had despair. Nor any reason at all why I didn’t feel alone when from an outsider’s point of view I was. I know people probably all thought I had no hope or happiness, again, even a teacher had written me off as a hopeless case at the time. No one liked me. I couldn’t trust anyone-not even teachers at the time. But, the truth was I did have happiness deep down and I didn’t ever feel alone. There is no explanation for it.

    @Joe Distefano A stranger yelling erratically about there being no hell, makes you question the motive? Why does this stranger want random kids to know that there’s no consequences for being evil (e.g. like Hitler, Stalin etc)? Is it so that the kids can do whatever they want even if it’s considered bad. Plus the bible says there will be antichrists that will deceive many people down a destructive path. Btw how about if a stranger yells that humans evolved from non-human primates. Could you prove that?

  • @justonetime6179

    @Joe Distefano 1. Why should you care about what the bible says as opposed to other religious book? Because the previous commenter made the comment christian/catholic specific, so that rules out other books. Which means the hypothetical person that questions the motive of the stranger would be christian rather than an atheist/ muslim etc. (And they would consider what the bible says when questioning the stranger’s motives). 2. How exactly do you prove, without faith, that humans evolved from primates/monkeys? 3. Why is it ok for Silverman to believe in her heart and convince others that hell is fake, but it’s not ok for a christian to believe in their heart and convince others that hell is real?

    If you believe Hell exists, then you absolutely have a reason to fear it so long as there exists a soul residing in it, basic empathy demands it. It's selfish to only think of your own wellbeing and not that of others. Not even the worst offenders deserve eternal pain, let alone people who need to see things first hand to come to judgement of what is truth. So many people are born into this world without the chance to hear about Christ, do you not fear for those souls?

    @@pangolinrendangered5683 Every culture had/has a different set of beliefs, some were polytheistic, some monotheistic, and some even atheistic, doesn't sound like they all believed the same thing let alone Christ. If everyone had the knowledge of Christ, then you wouldn't need to go about spreading the gospel, it would be like telling people water's wet. If spreading the gospel were necessary, then it means there are people who's eternal salvation is dependent on the free will of others, meaning through no fault of their own they would go to hell. My point regarding fear was that you should fear others going to hell, hence the part about empathy. I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but how full of yourself do you have to be to believe that not only is your unprovable claim the only one that matters, but that you alone can save someone from an incomprehensible evil, and if they don't listen they as an individual deserve to be tortured to a degree greater than the entirety of humanity has suffered for it's entire existence on this Earth, all for not following your specific unprovable claim.

    @@user-kj2fj8qr9l There are a lot of points you bring up. I'll start by saying the purpose of hell was to put satan and his followers there. Humans were never intended for hell. Satan falls and then desided to tempt Eve. Eve gets Adam to eat the fruit too, after God specifically said not to. Even told them why. They do it anyway. Because of it, the curse of sin started. They were corrupt. They disobeyed the penalty being death, and an eternity in hell. That would of been the end of the story, but God said He would bring a saviour. It takes innocent blood to cover the sins of the guilty. So willingly, Jesus came and became the sacrifice for all sinners. But it only means something if you believe that and if you do you would live accordingly. Reject it, and hell will be eternity. I'm not sure exactly what claim I made, but I dont fear going to hell. Cause I'm not going. That's all I meant. As for the fear of other people going to hell, of course! I have some very close people heading that way. But they choose that. They've heard the gospel but choose to reject it. That's between them and God. All I can do is pray. People have a choice and a conscience. God doesn't believe in atheists. He has proof all around of His existence. Man doesn't want to be accountable for his actions and wants to do his own thing. There was a study back in 2016 done about how much of the world believed in a God. Their estimate was around 80% of people believe in a form of a higher being. Despite all of the "facts" science has that there isn't one. There is also predestination but this is long enough. God has a plan in the works. There is enough social media to get the idea across these days. As for the few remote tribes out there... to be honest, I dont know. I've never heard of one not believing in a higher being. If they persue that God could reveal Himself. To be fair, you cant say with 100% certainty that God hasn't revealed Himself to every person on this planet.

And yes, every Christian has doubts sooner or later in their life, but good news, that is only a phase that won’t last! Whether Christians admit it or not, there was a time when they doubted, but the LORD would always get HIS followers out of that horrific circumstance. And HE does exist, I know it. No matter what you say, I love HIM and HE will take me home! If you start following HIM, you will experience peace above all understanding! Yes, HE created me, my ancestors are not chimpanzees, that theory is an excuse because people don’t want to leave their sinful lifestyle and believe in GOD! @Joe Distefano you talk about bad children's who mocked Holy Prophet in Old Testament ?? He punished His peoples of Israel because He wanted to delete the evil from his peoples and establish the peace! But years after years His peoples and whole the world didn't turn away from evil dids and keep violated His commandments that's why peoples of Israel lost their Holy status because of sin! That's why Jesus the Son of God comes to us, the Word of God became flesh and gives Himself to sacrifice for all humans sins... " For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16 You must read all Bible to understand the context before you use some verses out of context for your advantage! Don't do same things that Muslim scholars do and study the Bible.

    I just want to know what's going through her mind when she says "I promise you. I promise you. As an adult who doesn't believe in Hell, there is no Hell. It's what I firmly believe." Firstly, you admit, yourself, that you don't know "It's what I believe" "What do I know?" Second, why does your promise on the matter hold any weight? Like we're going to stand before God one day and say "But...Sara Silverman PROMISED me there was no Hell..." Third why does being an adult mean you're worth listening to? What about the adults that told the kids that there is a Hell? And fourth, does reality change based on what you, personally, believe? What about those who do believe in Hell? This short clip that I'm responding to just reeks of audacity and self importance.

    Hey, Isaac! I have been watching your video recently, and felt inspired to reach out. You make several great points about Christianity, and what it really means to be a Christian. I am a Catholic, and I was wondering what denomination you are a part of? On a separate note, many of your videos reiterate the idea of allowing God to take all of our shame and guilt away from us, because he has already forgiven us. I certainly agree that we aught to give God our burdens, that He may help us through all of our struggles. That being said, I also believe that a certain level of guilt, in moderation, can help remind us to love God more in return. If we are feeling guilty, it generally means that we have in fact done wrong in some capacity, and thereby require repentance and reconciliation with God. Maybe I am misinterpreting what you say in your videos, but you appear to claim that guilt is entirely unnecessary. Sure, we should not dwell on it, and once we have learned from it, should absolutely give it to God, as long as we do not become obsessed with it along the way. It does however serve a purpose. I was wondering if you could please make a video, or perhaps connect me to an older video of you describing what you mean when you talk about giving our guilt to God?

And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭12 : 31-32 She can be forgiven for saying God isn’t real. We’ve all tested God in thought, word and deed. But if she truly doesn’t fear hell she should blaspheme the Holy Spirit.

    @Joe Distefano by mocking the Holy Spirit and the works of the Holy Spirit. When the Pharisees accused Jesus of being a devil since he took out devils out of a possessed man Jesus said that they blasphemed the Holy Spirit since devils can’t ride out devils. And if devils go against each other they tear down the kingdom of Satan. You can look at this in the book of Matthew.

  • @writingcooper7900

    @writingcooper7900

    @Joe Distefano That’s quite a risk to take just to find out the opinion of someone you don’t know. If you don’t think it’s a risk because you don’t believe in the Holy Spirit, then your silly little half-hearted “blasphemy” hardly rises to the dignity of the word. It’s mean for you to say rude things to a customer service rep. It’s not really rude if you say the same things because you think you’re talking to an automated system and you don’t think anyone is actually there. In the passage the last person mentioned, they saw Jesus casting out devils, and the accused him of doing so by the devil because they wanted to discredit him, knowing full well that wasn’t the case. Now if you believe in God and the Holy Spirit, and you’re willing to blaspheme the Holy Spirit, it’s hard to imagine how you could be forgiven when your mocking and belittling the only means by which you can be forgiven. It’s like cutting off the branch you’re sitting on.

  • @writingcooper7900

    @writingcooper7900

    2 жыл бұрын

    @Joe Distefano I guess this is my fault for using the word “could”. As if the fact of blasphemy somehow prevents forgiveness. It’s that you won’t be forgiven. That is, again, of you actually commit the sin, which you have not (at least not by making a facetious KZread comment). In order to understand this, you need to understand what sin, blasphemy, and the Holy Spirit actually are, and you don’t really seem to have a grasp on any of these things. As much as I’d like to sit here and write a whole essay on my phone (not being sarcastic, I really would like to) it doesn’t seem practical so I’ll try to spell this out briefly: Blaspheming the Holy Spirit requires you to, as the Bible passage in question suggests, see the Spirit at work and, despite your firsthand knowledge, attribute it to evil. It’s a rare individual who sinks so low into self-worship that even the blatant move of God appears to be the work of sinister forces in their eyes. If you’re that far gone, your issues are a lot deeper than a few mocking words. As far s not being forgiven, if you’re that far gone, how can you even desire forgiveness from the power you believe to be evil? Forgiveness of sin isn’t a one way street. God will not force you into repentance. If you’ve lost your ability and even desire to be in right standing with God, your not going to be forgiven in spite of that.

Those scholars have some interesting takes in their scholarly work, but I don’t find their popular stuff very compelling and some of it is flat-out dishonest. And I apologize if I offended you, but when you’re educated on a subject, it’s easy to tell when someone isn’t educated. It just is what it is. You can’t make ignorant comments and then get offended when someone assumes you’re ignorant.

    @Joe Distefano Well, you asked what good reason is there to believe it is the word of God? I believe because God has allowed me to be in His presence and know Him and also because there is evidence that the Bible is reliable and true. Also, why would you ask a question about justification? It seems like you are just trying to throw all of these debates back to the existence of God. You wanted to know the answer and I gave it but then you want to hit me with the, “how do you know if it’s the Word of God?” That is like asking me if an apple tastes good and then I tell you yes but then you ask me how do I know if it is real.
