FAMILY LIVES A YEAR ON REMOTE ISLAND IN THE CANADIAN WILDERNESS // FULL DOCUMENTARY
#overlanding #offgridcabin #offgrid
In this episode we arrive at the cabin after 2 years away and begin a one year journey off grid at the island. We make all of the necessary upgrades to the property to allow us to live there through a cold Canadian winter. We install a solar power system and build an insulated shed to house it. we will be unable to leave the island for 4 to 5 weeks during the freeze up period, so we need to have adequate firewood, propane and food on hand to get us safely through. Join us on an EPIC family Adventure.

You are correct. Lot of money and sponsors for this off grid life. It was beautiful but with all those modern technologies it's more like a 1 year camping in the wilderness. I was expecting to see if and how they were able to survive in the middle of nature, away of the modern life support with only what the nature is giving to you.... It was more like going to the grandpa's on vacation into the woods with your trunk filled of goodies, modern big boys toys and many other fancy things. Normal people not even heard about that.

This is the dream isn't it guys? May we all here in the comments be blessed enough to one day have the family and resources to build and live our dream.
I would have liked to see mom & daughter making a grocery list and dad talking with boys about supplies needed for each possible scenario. Just the general conversations. And then the family going to town to get everything. Still a masterpiece though.

"Off the grid"? Why was I thinking primative? You have more money and more gadgets than I will ever have. Rather then say, off the grid, say staying at our cabin in the woods with no neighbors, for the winter with all the comforts of home.

Looks a lot like my childhood in Finland, on an island 12 km from the mainland. My father is a boatbuilder, and my mother is a fisherman's and smuggler's daughter. I went to school with a wooden boat, an icebreaker, a snowmobile or a hydrocopter.

If you use gasoline, NG or propane, you are not "off grid", you are just using someone else's grid mainly to fill those. It's a fallacy, it's like sneaking over to your neighbor's house after they go to bed and hook in your extension cord.

That would take so much money saved to buy all the stuff needed to live out there for a year. I bet with all the new builds and batteries, meats etc you guys spend $500,000 on that year vaca. Must be nice I’m a little jealous! 😂

Not nearly that much, but yes, it is a bit of an investment, but it’s not just for one year, this will provide a home for us for the next 50 years or more. Next time we spend a year there, we will only need to worry about food and firewood. That is pretty economical living if you ask me.
Great set up and great cottage. You guys are doing just fine out there. You must have money to pay $200 a month to use star link. People always think those who live off grid are trying to get by. But you guys have money. That makes a huge difference. Without money can’t have a cottage on water with boat and boat house and all appliances and internet and to buy food to store in freezers and fridges. That’s awesome. 🍻

To clean up rusted cast iron scrape off heavy rust. Sorry folks using steel scrub pads leaves minute particles in iron pores.. For finishing minute rust cut large potato in half and rub into pan. As potato wears cut back a slice. You can rinse with just a moist cloth, and your pan will blacken and is then ready for seasoning. Only season old timey way with slow even heat and pork belly or slab bacon chunks. I use smoked side pork but in youth some used BEAR fat. Bear stinks like all get out but works. We used bear far oils on leather boots.
