Epic Family Road Trip

Epic Family Road Trip

Hello world, we are the van Stralen family!

We are a family of 5 who sold everything except our Jeeps to drive around the World guided by our core values that had helped us find success in business and in life - WORK, PLAY, CARE.

For us CARE means to “Create A Remarkable Experience” and we do this by leaving the people we meet and the places we visit a little better than we found them.

We've enjoyed amazing experiences so far like helping rescue 120 Pilot Whales that were stranded on a remote beach in New Zealand, bringing solar lights to a remote village in Haiti and planting rice with the locals in Indonesia. We’ve road tripped around Canada and the USA several times, visiting every state and province hiking and having fun together while taking every opportunity to share the message of CARE.

I don't think it will matter what you drive; I will always be a follower of EFRT. I hope to raise my family with the same sense of adventure. Seeing all the channels created from this one is wonderful. Love from NM, the great southwest!

This is rich man glamping not true overlanding. Most people don’t have the money for pimped out jeeps with all the latest bells and whistles. And all the rich man accessories.

Happy belated Birthday Carol, I know I'm late, just seeing this! I don't know exactly when your BD was, but mine's in September. I know you had a great one, just being out in nature and wilderness, I would too!

Excited for you, & your son. Memorable video & story line, thank you. If driving N from SLC one goes to W Yellowstone and then N into Gallatin Valley or W & N on the Madison route. The Gallatin valley appears to be your route, white water spots & the full canyon are beautiful. You finally land W of Bozeman & head W to Three Forks on the N side of freeway. There is a park there with a hill, where "Clark" stood and viewed (& named) the three river systems - Gallatin, Madison & Jefferson. That's where you met your son, with warmth, hugs & harmony. Lewis & Clark with Sackawagea took the Jefferson (& a fork) (SW to near Dillion) & then part of the group marched 20 miles W & found Sac...brother. Days later the Indigenous with horses took the crew N to Lolo (S of Missoula) & then the most difficult part of their trip, through the mountains and then to the Columbia river. On the return trip they split after getting trough the mountains, Clark (with Sac....as a guide) went E past Bozeman to modern day Livingston & traveled that wondrous Yellowstone River route (E), meeting Lewis & others at a Junction near the N Dakota border where the two rivers join. Clark in his memoirs called it one of the grand highlights of his trip. Stephen Ambrose decades ago wrote the seminal book on the Lewis & Clark journey. More recently, a book recommended by him (a companion book) is the text "Along the Trail with Lewis & Clark, 3rd Edition, by Barbara Fifer, maps by Joseph Mussulman." It offers a guide to the trials (route) and color maps with detail & historical sites listed. Each section of the trip with maps, it's a splendid book. (We got ours in Bozeman a few years ago). Standing on the Hill adjacent to the actual 3 forks (Madison & Jefferson join) & then the Gallatin (to the E) which then 'spill' into & create the headwater (point) of the Missouri River system. It's a historical site and setting & it's still semi wild & not developed,

Thank you for your comment. Yes we find the Lewis and Clark history fascinating. Caroline and I listened to the entire audiobook “Undaunted Courage” on our trip to the arctic a few years ago. It’s wonderful to revisit all these historic places.

My dad did with his RV what the military does with their aircraft...when he deployed the leveling jacks, awning or other device, he would place an item specific embroidered flag on the steering wheel (stow awning or retract leveling jack, etc). Hard to miss when you want to drive. Thanks for sharing.

I've experiences snow in August! So, no surprise there 😊 My oldest brother loves that cold, cold Montana weather and has been there for nearly 20+ years with his wife and 4 adult kids. It is beautiful there, but for me only in the summer. I'm an AZ girl and need the sun and its warmth. And Carol you are much braver than I am. I just prefer to NEVER have to run into any bear (Black, brown or Grizzly), or wolf! Stay safe y'all!

From West Chester, OH Great video! I replayed your drone work 3x. You know, I went back to Pete, Jr @ the airport & didn’t notice the RossMonster camper top was up….if the shot was from the other side(comparing the windows) I may have spotted it! Like you said, “You do it once” 😅 Honestly, when hatch backs on SUV’s came out - how many people drove down the road with them up …. And the conversation in the vehicle was “What’s that noise?” 😅
