i still have my family bible which dates back to the eighteen hundreds, it has ornate wood covers and is very beautiful but terribly worn. in the middle it has spaces for births, deaths, and marriages. Ours was so full we had to start writing them down on loose-leaf paper and putting in the book. i rember when my grandma died and were seeing who the bible was going to go to, i had the great honor of getting it and i cherish it deeply. I hear this song and it reminds me of my Dad, I remember every Sunday evening round about 6:30pm from I could understand as a child my Dad would read the Bible for us and then we would all listen to Bill Graham's 30 minute radio program. Missed those days. R.I.P Dad.

This was my Grandma's favorite song and it was played at her funeral two years ago. During the Martin family Christmas my Uncle Harold played the guitar while several of us sang this song. Now whenever I hear it I think of my family.

Willie didn't mention that he sold the rights to this song the day he wrote it back in the early '50s, for ten bucks. He was behind on his bar tab and convinced Walter Breeland to take the song. Breeland later shared the writing credit with Paul Buskirk and Claude Gray. That was one bar tab that Willie should have worked off washin' dishes. The song has been covered by more country artists than just about any other.

Our house is about to flood on the White River in Arkansas now. The first thing I got out was my great grandfather's family Bible. I wrapped it in a plastic trash bag to stay dry. Some things can't be replaced.

The apostle Paul, in one of his letters to the Corinthians said, "when I was a child, I thought as a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child. I would argue all of these "there is no God, and the Bible is just a collection of stories" comments is purely childish, and to those people I would say some things are true whether you believe them or not, or whether you want to them to be or not. Someday, Jesus Christ will return and every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess, believe that!

We must treat each other with respect and kindness....but as far as salvation, Jesus and the His Word, the Bible, is the only Truth. Jesus is Truth. The only way to have our sins forgiven is through the fact that He died on the cross to take our sins away...but now we have to repent and acknowledge that we are sinners and that He is the only savior. All other books have tidbits of Truth, whereas Jesus is completely Truth.
