Famed aviator John Lear, 79, departs on ‘his next adventure’

Nevada aviator John Lear’s death Tuesday night has sent ripples through the worlds of aviation and conspiracy theories. Lear was widely known for his claims about UFOs and Area 51, but also for a lifetime of daring exploits in everything that could fly. George Knapp has the report.

John Lear will be missed. One of the smartest men i met, and privileged to have flown with him as my captain. He was a young man with Marilee and their 2 girls in Cairo. Until he died John and i had talked. He's the only pilot in a 14 year career as a stewardess that I maintained a friendship with. He was a great pilot, a great gentleman, and he lived his family to the end. RIP John. I was privileged to know you and enjoyed our phone calls enormously. 🙏

John also did a great interview with the survivors of USS Liberty, the American ship that Israel attacked in broad daylight in 1976. As the world's most expert pilot John Lear confirmed for the survivors of the attack that at the altitude the Israeli crew were flying at they could clearly see the ship was American.

I can't believe you've barely missed disclosure by 1-2 years, Lear. Miss ya, I just wish you were around so we could hear what you had to say about everything going on now. 'You may not hear in a month, a year, 5 years or 10 years, but what i'm telling you now, you'll say to yourself, my god, the son of a gun was right.' I don't know if everything you said was on mark, but I really hope to some extent we'll be saying it. R.I.P. absolute legend.

@_MindsEye_ later in life John Lear, maybe. I guess earlier John Lear maybe thought it was inevitable it'd come out. He did, after all, go on national television to attempt to bring it out and publicly talk about it. I get the sneaking suspicion he heavily leaned in the direction of getting the truth out in general. But who knows, sadly isn't around to make his case today.

I didn't know about Lear's death, very sad to hear, he was a fascinating guy, greatly missed , he said at the airforce academy they describe 3 foot tall aliens with large slanted rap around eyes , exactly what the school children at the Ariel school in Zimbabwe described in 1994 , a small being with large rap around eyes , those 10 year olds could not have known what was being taught at the airforce academy, the same description.

RIP Mr.Lear. And so, another of the ufo 'old guard' departs. And with him, many a story. People like Art Bell, Stanton Friedman and Lear (plus so many others) all gone. And, who's gonna fill their shoes? Millennials like Jeremy 'I want to weaponise your beard hair' Corbell? I think not. I like George Knapp (especially his presenting of, what was, Art Bell's show). But there are not many others. I miss the old 'rock+roll' days of ufology. And, all the characters that it spawned :) Fun times.
