False Positives (Five Nights at Freddy's Animation) [CC]

Фильм және анимация

Freddy mistakenly detects signs of activity, and tries to interact with an empty room.
Sister Location (2016) has a different approach to presenting the sentience of the animatronics compared to its predecessors, in that the company seems aware to some extent that their machines are 'alive'. They take advantage of the animatronics' inexplicable sense of self-preservation by incentivizing them to perform under the threat of torture, rather than just programming them differently like you would any normal computer.
In the case of Freddy, this way of thinking presents itself in the form of the Bonnie hand puppet, which is implied to be there specifically to calm Freddy's erratic behavior, in a way no robot should need. In the game, Bonnie acts as a speaker for a set of prerecorded words of comfort, directed at Freddy himself and not as part of any act. Freddy, in turn, actually responds to this the way a living creature would, and can be settled down from a state of agitation.
Freddy's dialogue here is taken from a set of unused takes which don't see any use in-game. If you don't recognize them, this would be why. I made a conscious choice to de-synchronize Freddy's mouth movements from the dialogue, to emphasize the idea that these are just a limited set of soundbytes the animatronic is pulling from and not true free speech. I think that comes off as much creepier, as opposed to when animatronics in these games seem to speak directly to the player in their own words. In that sense, I was taking more influence from how Funtime Freddy is described in the novels than shown in the games.
I wanted to do something a little more subdued this time, since I've been feeling rather burnt-out recently and I'm incredibly wary of falling into the old 'must keep topping myself' trap when it comes to my Five Nights shorts. That's a mentality I must admit I'm very prone to, and have had my fair share of brushes with in the past, so this animation has been a deliberate effort to reel myself back in: nothing too fancy.
External resources used: Textures and sound effects from Sister Location and Security Breach, plus additional textures from poliigon.com and additional sounds from KZread's stock library. Everything else I made myself, be it foley for sound effects, procedural textures, or the models themselves.

I really find it interesting to how sentient these things are, the funtimes. It's sadistic for Willy old Afton to add that much layers of personality on to a robot despite the fact that theyre built to be killers, only to motivate these things through shock torture rather than simply programming them to function the "right way". Do these things kill because they like to, or is it the threat of said shock torture, and it doesn't help with the soul energy they indirectly collect through their killings, that it can actually make them more sentient than ever, sentient enough to long for freedom

According to Baby’s recounting of Elizabeth’s murder, it seems to be implied that the killing just sort of happens, like a reflex, without them necessarily understanding what they’re doing.

@@ilikepigeons6101 I like to think she initially doesn't have conscious control over it just to make the funtimes more tragic as characters, and by proxy to make William that much more of a jackass. Baby's sentience might come from Elizabeth's Remnant or whatever, but she clearly has her own personality and identity, and seems to apply emotions to memories or past experiences from before she was haunted. It's possible she wasn't even really self-aware until she killed Elizabeth and became infused with Remnant, which I think would make her sentience that much more interesting from a narrative perspective.

But then after I read the description, I watched it again and separated the voice lines from his behavior, and suddenly it was so much clearer to me that his body language was indicating he was panicking and scared while his voicelines were just being blurted out like they were trying to ask what's going on.

I’m so used to theses things being so lively that it’s shocking to see them act as machines, granted Freddy here is not acting like any normal robot but he is behaving very robotically. His movements are stiff and slow while a whirling sound plays when he does move. The contrast of sentience and energy between animatronics is really interesting, the classics are very old and unnatural when they move, the Funtimes are a bit more advanced but limited in certain aspects while the Glamrocks are so lively.

This really shows an instering approach to sentient animtronics, being self aware and able to control things like movment, yet limited by the animtronics programing. Funtime freddy is show to responde to events like the sign falling like a creature would, yet is limited by the programed sound bits to express commutation. It also seems like even when possesed Freddy still follows the orders of luring and captureing children that Afton designed him with. Bon Bon acting as a both a calming tool and a Companion to Freddy makes me wonder how loney Freddy is to only have one Companion only meant to clam him down. Having a loney side to Freddy would add the feelimg of despare of the rental service. He still acts like a coldblooded manic at the end of the day but having something like this would show how all the Funtimes are suffering by the hands of Willam and it's not just Baby. Have Freddy use body language to express thoughts oppsed to nprmal language opens some possibilities for funtime like charaters. Imagine a animtronic what either not be able to freely speak or rarely speaks unsciepted lines in order to avoid suspiction from those watching the faciltys camreas. It would have to use context clues with it's voice lines to convay what it needs or wants. Plates, most nobley Faceplates could used as a unique from of body language. Plates that quickly all up suddenly and create the sound of releaseing pressurized air like the ones seen in the jumpscares can be used to show aggression are unfamilier. An animtronic that slowy peals each imdividual playe back and only creating a soft mechanical sound could be used to signal familiarity or a calm animtronic. As a bit of something unrelated how I would imagine Baby and Ballora haveing free speak if were on the logic of following the progroming is the song data bank. The survival log book mentions that Funtime Freddy's voice sound pre recorded compared to Baby and Ballora so we can assume that Freddy's soumd bits are all pre recorded. Even thought the blueprints dons't mention that Ballora has a song data bank with her being a music based robot and having a smooth voice that seeming not limited to recorded voices we can assume that she also has a song daya bank. The song data bank stores data of songs into the robot's memory which allows it to play songs at a later data. The data bank can most likey be updated with new songs to add with new popular songs comeing out. If we assume that the ani.tromoc sings the song it's voice then it's likey that Baby and Ballora have advenced enought A.I to recreate lysics with their voices. If all of this this true I could see a spirt possesing either animtronic being able to manupulate the data bank to produce speak oppsed to a song like it was intended. This is nothing more then a theory thought and Scott has the final say on how things in the FnaF universe work.

Looks almost too clean to be that bunker, but then again, that's just because it's lit up like it never was for us. Well, that and that I think there was probably over a thousand wires in the original map Scott made for the breaker room. Still a great interpretation, and I particularly like how you did Freddy and Bon-Bon - they seem so eerily active yet dead, properly like sentient machines rather than performance robots particularly with how the mouths just don't move, how they don't blink or breathe. Truly the atmosphere the first game had, and I love that. I will say I interpret Funtime Freddy's given blueprint and movements in-game as depicting Bon-Bon as really more of an extension of him than a separate AI in any way, and him just being forced to respond to that, particularly since Bon-Bon never once actually moves when Freddy is, further showing that it's not two beings in there, just the one with a few options, which honestly makes any interactions he tries to have with his puppet even sadder, him being that alone that he resorts to that. Blacktime Freddy in the novels is definitely an interesting use, and I do enjoy his scenes, underused though the character may be in the games (he was cut from three of them, left as a rare easter egg in SL and a minor detail in one of the offices in UCN, and the graphic novel just doesn't notice that it's meant to be him - not that the graphic novel gets any other details right either) and largely inconsequential to the plot as he is. He's funny. Glad you can pull yourself away from the endless chase of perfection like this. It's definitely necessary for most artists of any form to reset their standards for themselves every now and then, and what you make definitely is art by every definition - this stuff is amazing. The model for this looks great too.

@@syweb2 Blacktime Freddy is indeed an official character from the series. He's a minor easter egg in SL, where his faceplates show up in place of Ennard's mask on rare occasion; he was planned for SL Custom Night but was ultimately cut entirely; and he was planned for UCN with the same mechanic but was also cut from that, though he remains as faceplates on the wall in the SL/FFPS office skin. He is also the Freddy model present in The Fourth Closet (and is that one on the cover), the third and final novel in that ridiculous trilogy, where he is specifically described to be more or less Yenndo with a set of monochrome plating, being dark grey on white with yellow eyes and two hands. The graphic novel adaptation of TFC, due to its atrociously underskilled artist not reading the source material, gets this wrong and also gets the unnamed Funtime line version of Mangle that's present in the book wrong. And the amalgam of other animatronics shows up incorrectly, and the suicide endoskeleton, and every other animatronic character except for Springtrap, who shows up with a grand total of approximately three panels.

Kellen Goff played them for some behind-the-scenes intrigue when he was brought on as a guest on MatPat's GTLive, not long after Sister Location came out. Just searching 'Funtime Freddy unused lines' should bring them up.
