Fallon VS 5’9 160 lbs PURPLE Belt with Narration

Hi all!
This week's video was highly requested because I’m rolling against a purple belt that is pretty similar to my size. Everyone in my comments always asks why I go with white belts so much, but it’s all I have available usually during the late-night classes when I can film. So, I was so excited when Hugo walked in because I knew it would be a fun match for you guys to watch! He is a closer belt level to me, so you can really see the battle of technique take place. He is very methodical with his game, so it really slows me down because I’m more of an explosive jiu-jitsu player. Anyway, I hope everyone enjoys this! Leave comments below on what else you would like to see from me! I always try my best to listen to you all!
Xoxo,
Fallon

That was well done. Even though this is just practice, I can tell that with the right skill set, you could have a counter for any opponent at any belt level. It comes down to assessing the situation, and knowing which moves will help you in that situation or to get out of that situation.

Nice mount control, really perplexed as to how he got the bump for the mounted triangle escape. Do you use the mouse trap approach to your side control americana/straight arm lock? It helps me a ton. It could be a strength thing, but you did seem a bit over-extended body positioning wise. I've seen other people put the knee up on the belly, I'm not sure why they do this as I think it weakens the pin and doesn't seem to help them finish. Sometimes I do think it comes down to size mismatch; the bigger a person's torso is and the longer they are, the less likely I am to try far-side arm finishes because it feels like the width of their torso makes my pin less effective the more I move across their center.

@@FallonFratone Just wondering- if you are in a tournament and have your opponent in a submission and your opponent taps out, but say the referee doesn't see or acknowledge it, do you keep the submission on and keep attacking your opponent until they tap again and the ref stops the right, or would you just let go of the submission if you knew the opponent tapped and might be in a precarious position like if they are about to get choked out or possibly be severely injured by the continuance of the submission? Just wondering how you approach that? Because it seems like some practitioners just say they are taught to keep going until the ref stops the match, regardless of whether they know the opponent tapped, and in other cases practitioners indicate they will let up on the submission if they know the opponent tapped? Just wondering what your "policy" is, in those instances? Thank you and best of luck to you as always!

@@Tgg847 The greater the speed of hipping in can cause greater damage on your partner's elbow if they are trying to work late stage defenses/ escapes and they were expecting a more measured finish from you. Assuming you have good control when applying the submission, you should be able to go very slowly and still prevent all escape attempts and get a tap when your partner realizes there is no escape possible and before any damage to their elbow. Training partners will usually agree to a friendly training roll where there are more opportunities to escape and submissions are applied slowly or a competition pace roll geared for preparation for a tournament where the submissions will be applied a bit faster and escapes will actively be countered. Some gyms will have a specific class designated for competition training. The number one rule of training is don't break your toys. It takes two knuckleheads to break a joint, the knucklehead who won't tap and the knucklehead who keeps applying a submission that is locked out.
