Falconry: Molting your bird

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

This falconry video teaches how to properly molt any bird of prey. Birds molt their feathers every year. But there are many vital components to this process, from food choice and water, to housing, how food is presented, handling, free lofting vs tethered, etc. This video is extremely important to prevent a bird from becoming aggressive, to help a bird properly grow in new feathers, and to keep a bird from damaging the new growing feathers.

Love the easy way you present your thoughts, experience and variables. I love to mimic bird calls and add my own unique sounds. I have resident Steller Jay's and one is a ventriloquist. It mimics the Redtail and my version of the same bootio. Birds are amazingly entertaining in so many ways!❤❤

Another method for accipiters is to create a sacrificial spot in your yard you use on the molt only. You can take your bird there, let it jump off to the food and then just tether it there and let it eat and weather at the same time

I'd love to hear your thoughts on reverse molting or flying through the molt. could be beneficial to anyone wanting to fly a kestrel on starlings over the summer or something similar. love the videos!

Thank you for this video - very helpful information, and just at the right time, as our (my wife and I fly her) female Harris's Hawk is about to start her molt. Also very good info regarding what food to give, thank you very much for sharing your insight and letting us benefit from your experience.

Cool cool. Harris hawks are more prone to become vocal if you feed them in the new over the summer. Good to watch out for it

Well, she's vocal, no doubt about that (this is her second molt). So maybe that ship has already sailed. But she's also very playful during her molt (well, she was last year, and she's showing all the signs again this year). It is so much fun watching her going to town with a pinecone or a dog toy. We are very lucky to have very generous and understanding neighbours :-)

Cam explain how you rangle the bird once you reclaim them from molt we in middle east use shnathara and I personally is against it as its a licensed and alm it does is just get rid if the mucous accumulation in the crop and causes bruising which us eventually treated with antibiotics and stuff and I absolutely don't like it

"But they do it in the wild" is one of my least favorite arguments. Natural isn't always best.
