Somebody out there has a serious case of sour grapes. What the heck is wrong with people? Kudos to you and your crew. Kudos to the FAA, too, for doing their due diligence and giving the middle finger to whoever reported you by showing interest in the project and being willing to help. Onwards and upwards.

@Brett Day: yeah... it comes with the territory, you do something in public, especially on the internet, you will allways get someone trying to sabotage you, jealous people that can't accomplish anything and don't want others to either.... it's amplified by the internet, since they have a feeling of anonymity and distance and mostly won't get in trouble or get called out for their bs in person.... @Rebuild Rescue: you're doing great, please don't let them get you down... @@edwood8698 well... we can't give kudos to the complainant... since he/she was complaining about stuff that was not true. (possibly malicious) and the FAA has to check if the complaint has a point, they did their work, found out, the complaint was BS, but stayed polite and even offered their help and support. so.... kudos to the FAA and dissing the complainant is kinda the way...
Attitude makes all the difference. As a trucker, I’ve dealt with DOT many times. Every time, when they see my attitude, ie I want to do it right, safe, and legal, they respond to that with a willingness to aid and educate. Your attitude and care allowed the Inspectors to work with you. It’s all about attitude.

As a pilot and aviation professional for many years, your attitude towards the faa is spot on. In my operations we use the FAA almost like a partner, always available for questions, and we use their help frequently, including in planning for future operations. The FAA is not the enemy, they are a resource. Thanks for this video!

You know the FSDO's ASIs are discussing this on break and their inbox is full. And they know their supervisors are likely watching this as well. They have to cover their tails. They know there isn't a single aircraft out there that meets type design and "safe for operation" is a subjective interpretation by the IA. They can lay down the hammer on anyone. There will be people giving advice in the comments about not making videos and taking on liability, but I think this is a great learning tool of how important a professional working relationship with the FAA is. They are not your friends but they are not your enemy. We work to a common goal of reducing risk to the point that safe operation is guaranteed.

I found your channel a while back and have been keeping up because I actually live about 20 min from Oshkosh, WI. Best of luck to you finishing before Airventure!
Glad that the FAA is willing to help - despite all the nasty stories, you'll find that many of those come about due to other people's gross negligence or doing something so terribly wrong the FAA has to bring down the hammer as it were. It's very similar in Australia with our version of the FAA, CASA. My company is going through a massive culture change where instead of hating CASA and loathing to deal with them, we are sitting down with them in meetings, embracing their input, and overall it seems to be improving everything that we do and also helping to bring CASAs eyes down to our perspective and seeing how we operate. People need to remember that while yes - this is the government, the people inside a lot of these departments are people that are just trying to promote safety, and by sitting down with these people and asking for their input, and even bouncing ideas relating to safety back and forth the aviation community will become safer as a result.
Very cool! I've been watching since the beginning and it is AMAZING how far you've gone on this project! Well, it is now more of a life-changing event....
Its funny that some of the viewers are trying to report you to the FAA to what shut you down. Its funny you have someone in the FAA trying to help now. Always a silver lining. People with good hearts are sometimes getting suppressed, makes some cave in and give up. Keep it up Rebuild Rescue team!!

Well, to be honest if you get a call from the IRS telling you that I'm pretty sure they're honest! Their goal is to make sure that you're doing the right thing so you don't break the law, and that the nation as a whole isn't cheated out of vital taxes... The road you're driving on is paid by your taxes, so are the runways you're using and other vital infrastructure we have in a civilized society! You can argue the ups and down of the system and like/dislike it as much as you want and that's fine, and the way you change it is to vote for those who are willing to makethat change for you within the government! So yeah, if the IRS calls you to say they are there to help you then they want to keep you out of jail, or at least not end up with huge debts that could otherwise have been avoided! 🤔

Germany has something similar to the IRS ("Finanzamt"). If you're new to filing taxes (e.g. being the new treasurer of a non-profit organization), call up the person "on the other side". They're usually helpful on how to do everything (in my case, providing me with some hints on how to get below a threshold that would have generated much more paperwork). They're just trying to do their job with a minimum of effort, so if they help you do it correctly, they don't have to do that back and forth with incorrect forms, etc... If you try to cheat them, not so much. They do have experience and they know most, if not all, tricks.

Thank you very much for giving us a view behind the scenes and your personal background, very interesting. Keep going on, happy to see your progress in this project.

We are glad you enjoyed the episode !
It makes my heart glad you have support from the FDA, but damn some people just need to mind their own business! Even I know (I am not a pilot) this bird will never fly without a FAA stamp of approval. If these people would just listen to your videos instead of jumping to conclusions, they would have known certified mechanics were working and supervising work on this plane. Thank you for your gracious attitude with all this. Thank you for the love and time you spend restoring these wonderful planes. I really enjoy your videos!❤❤❤❤
The FAA is really just there to keep everything safe. When you are following the required procedures they are happy. Every episode going forward just highlights the absolute massive size of the whole project. Keep up rebuilding! :)

G'Day from Australia. I've been following the 401 project from day 1. I've held a private pilot's licence here in Australia for 20 years but haven't flown for about 10 years ago due to medical conditions. I've been in business for most of my life. Sadly, people out there want to destroy your dreams and projects for no other reason than just being assholes. It was great to hear the FFA were not the same. Stay strong and never let anyone steal your dreams mate.
Bravo, really enjoy following your progress on the 401. I wish you and the team helping you a successful prize of a fully operational aircraft.
Wow can’t hide from jealousy can we? Glad the FAA got in touch and got you cleared! Hope filing a bogus report with the FAA will get that person in trouble! Guess it backfired and got the FAA on your side! Hope to see this plane flying and delivering happiness to people everywhere! 😀🙏🇺🇸
While not in the aviation industry myself, I come from a multi-generation Boeing family. I really enjoy the human-element of your videos, and showing us all the mistakes and discoveries you and your team come across. It reminds me of all the 'war-stories' I overheard throughout the years from family and friends on the assembly lines, many of whom are no longer around to tell their stories. Keep up the fight, and genuinely excited to see the outcome of the project. Thanks.
Glad to hear the FAA is being so helpful! Keep it up Rich!

Full respect for your transparency in everything, great job. Keep it up :)
Great to hear that the FAA are on your side and offering you all the assistance you need. I wonder if the person that reported you guys was the same person that tried, underhandedly, to get the 401. Keep up the excellent work Jason and the team and I wish you all a Happy and productive new year!

Thank you for your positivity, she'll be up in the air soon enough !
Maybe more than anything else, you provide an example of being kind and gracious in the face of opposition. Not going off when someone throws some hate your way is a hard thing to do. Thanks for being a great role model in so many ways.
They are all pilots and love flying. They just want to keep us all safe. Respect them.
Most of the time, the FAA is there to help. They have seen to many preventable accidents and is willing to work with pilots and mechanics to prevent bad things happing. I have to give a shout out to the FAA Registration Department. They are always so friendly and helpful when I call them. I can't wait to see this plane fly. You are doing it right.
Bro, I am impressed by how you handled this situation. I started watching your channel on the first video on the 401. This was an example of how you handle adversity without whiny and calling names. You made it into a positive opportunity, and that really shows the measure of a man. You have my respect.

Thank you Brother, I appreciate that
There's one in every crowd. They complain without knowing the facts. Great videos and great series on the 401. Can't wait to see it in the air!
@rebuildrescue Jason, I am totally impressed by the way you handled things with the FAA. It's great to see that the FAA do the education and support side of their work in helping Rebuild Rescue. This is somewhat of a record for me too, two comments in two months. 😁
Sounds like you handled that with professionalism and grace. You are still one of my all time favorite channels.

It’s sad to see someone is complaining constantly despite all the details in every video you guys put together all these months! So nice to hear FAA investigator is interested in the project like most of us are. It will be great! Positive vibes from many of us! 🎉🎉

Thanks for that! Your positivity is what keeps us here at Rebuild Rescue motivated !
There are some really sad people out there that can't stand people trying rebuild a free aircraft for a really great cause and just love to complain.
What you are doing just would not happen in the commercial world. It would not be cost effective. But the way you are going is wonderful, inspiring hope and with a philanthropic aspiration to aim at. Getting the FAA onside is a must and you appear to be well on the way to getting that support. I love watching your progress and you intuitive work arounds ( for example building your cradle and support frame) and I wish you all the best for 2023.
Love this project and everything you do. Someone is jealous of you and the fact the FCA are working with you says they love it too. Keep it up ❤❤

Thank you for investing your time in the channel Mike, and your support is very encouraging!
I am glad you had a good experience with the FAA. I have 2 acquaintances who work for the FAA in New England and they love everything about flying. Both are former Army pilots and recently started a rebuild similar to you, but with better logs and a little more air worthiness. Flying is a lifestyle i don't fully understand. I just know these two live, breath, and dream about flying. Anytime someone mentions flying around them they turn into little kids. The attention to detail required to be an investigator means you probably have to love your job. Good luck!
That’s the problem with doing stuff like this. There is always one jerk who thinks it’s funny or doesn’t understand what’s going on. Thank you for what you’re doing, keep up the good work.

I think it’s somebody that just wants to be “that guy”, the person that wants to be able to claim they had enough “juice” to get the project shut down. Terrible people.
Take it as a badge of honor when you get maligned by hateful narcs. Keep up the good work!
glad it worked out in your favor, you have done a professional job restoring the aircraft.
Good to finally have some info on the FAA investigation. But could of done without all the flash backs.
God bless you Jason! It's evident that you and everyone involved in the 401 project are sticklers for doing everything the right way! There's no cutting corners and safety is number one! The FAA can be your best friend if you follow the rules and they are only interested in strict adherence to those rules. When I was actively flying I had some interaction with the FAA and because of that I called them the Friendly Aviation Administration. 🙂 We all know the saying, " there are old pilots and bold pilots, but there are no old bold pilots." Love you brother! Can't wait to get a ride in the 401!
Well done and looking forward to seeing it fly. Glad the FAA is doing its job correctly supporting general aviation.
If anyone has spent any amount of time in the general aviation community, they would know that the uncertified person can work on his own airplane and other airplanes as long as there’s a certified A&P guiding/inspecting the work in question. Whoever is calling the FAA, either doesn’t know anything about aviation, or is out right being dishonest about the complaint. I would think if they are knowingly making a false report to the FAA, they could be charged. Love your work and videos. Glad to see y’all going and helping Tim. Nice to see y’all appreciate what Tim did for you and trying to return the favor.
Thanks for your endless work on the 401! I bet to see the plane fly again!!!! Greetings from bavaria, germany!

Thanks for watching and for your support ❤️
If you do things right any governmental institution will be nice. Of course, if you are trying to go around the rules they'll do anything in their power to force you to do things right: in that case they're not being a pain, they're just doing their job and obviously the people on the other side are not going to say nice things about these institutions. Glad everything is good, I had no doubt it was going to be. Keep up the good work, can't wait to see the 401 fly again as I've been here since day one!
You're always going to have that one person who thinks they know it all without knowing the whole story... Keep up the good work and good luck getting certified... Happy New Year and God Bless :)
Jason don't let the haters get to you.The FAA is a solid support agency. God Bless You I really enjoy your video✌
I am not a pilot but this project is so inspiring. I love to see the day the 401 will lift its tyres from the runway again. I look forward to the next progress video. Exiting times ahead😊

I am so glad you're apart of the Rescue Crew, your support is encouraging and is why we are able to keep going !
I have experience with the FAA through a hobby, and can say that in my experience they're a good group to work with. They're helpful, they're friendly, they're focused 100% on safety. Kudos to you and the team for doing a great job of properly following procedures and giving light to the discussions you've had with them.

Not true. MANY of the people at the FAA are a good group to work with, some are even GREAT, but there are also the ones who are power-mad and shouldn't have the authority to order lunch. The guys who tried to screw Bob Hoover, for instance. Over the years, I've been lucky enough to meet a lot more of the former than the latter, but there are too many of the latter type out there.
Good to see the FAA doing the good work. They're not only responsible for regulating aviation in the US, they're also responsible for PROMOTING Aviation. this isn't always a good thing, but it has it's benefits. Glad the FAA inspections went well, hope you don't get them called on you again. Good luck on restoring the plane.
Glad the 401 will be Airborne soon, I started watching and was tuned on the 401 since the first Episode came out, very exciting.
This man has been very open since the start of rebuilding the 401 .. and has explained numerous things about what is being done and how it’s being done … nothing I have seen has sparked any question about the process. Good job Jason hope and pray the best for this project!!
I really do not understand the sourness of some people. Why complain about such a great project. Is it jealousy? Is it because they have no life? Geeez... Anyway, keep up the good spirit Jason!
The FAA is not there to be the bad guy, they are there to insure safety of people in the sky and on the ground. I have my A&P, and have several years experience working on aircraft from commercial to general experimental. Not one time can I tell you that I have had a bad experience with them. I do believe that there is probably a few people who maybe sour with your success as a channel / business who will keep reporting you. The FAA will follow up on any leads they are given because there is so much at stake if they fail to do so. Great work so far and I wish you all the best !
I lost track of this project sometime last year, but in the early months of it I had major concerns. There was no discussion of the work being supervised by a licensed inspector, etc. It looked like you were going to clean the carbs, air up the tires, clean out some bird/mouse poop, and go fly a very broken aircraft. This popped up in my recommended today and I am very glad to see that the FAA is involved and everything is being done by the books. By all means, I love to see old aircraft restored and flying as long as it is done safely. Time to go catch up on all the missed episodes.
One of two types of observers called the FAA: (1) a nosy super safety ninny Karen who thinks PIC is in the right seat or (2) somebody who has a grind against you. Either way, the FAA is generally helpful and as you get to know them and they you, future Karen alerts will be given the weight they are entitled. Inspectors will end up doing perfunctory examinations and offer advice and shake their heads. Too bad we can't get an anonymous hotline to report fleecing politicians! Keep up the hard work - she is going to fly again!
Well done!! You handled that beautifully! Can’t understand the audacity of some people, what did they get out of it? Not only nothing but the entire crew received the support of the FAA! Keep up the great work!
It's like those calls helped in some way?? Great vid!!
such a shame some people don't want others to do good or even just enjoy themselves. Armchair mechanics & pilots always want what they can't have or do. Glad you have so many friends to cover your back & i hope one day the reporters need one of your mercy planes that you rebuilt. Good luck keep up the good work.
With some exceptions.. as long as you aren't confrontational with the FAA and refuse to work with them, interactions go pretty smoothly. It's amazing how many people don't understand how it works and go right to the top, forcing the FAA to waste taxpayer dollars on nothing.

they have the reputation, deserved or not, of being pigheaded bureacrats with no interest other than to shut down general aviation. It's much the same with aviation authorities in other countries, and in many of those countries it is indeed deserved as that's (by design or not) government policy. E.g. I was forced to discontinue private pilot training because of my medication. I take anti-depressants which are blacklisted, meaning I'd never be able to solo (thus killing my chance to ever get my license, obviously). BUT I don't take them for depression, I take them for a sleeping disorder that doesn't (as long as I take them) influence my ability to operate an aircraft or motor vehicles (were I not to take them I'd be too dangerous to drive, let alone fly, within a week of stopping, yet by regulation I'd have to not take them for a month before every single flight). I consulted with an AME who consulted with EASA before starting my training, and they said I was fine because of the paperwork I had to prove my reason for taking them. YET when I went for my medical, EASA denied that medical for the very reason they earlier said would be no problem. The government here also, a few months later, tried to ban all light aircraft operations from my nearest airfield except for flight training by flying schools contracted to train airline pilots. THAT was later overturned in court as it would have destroyed a lot of local businesses (obviously), including several dealerships for light aircraft, repair and maintenance shops, flying schools, etc. etc., and there was no legal basis for them to do this, they just thought it'd fly (no pun intended) as long as they claimed it was "for the environment". The government retaliated by turning the place from an untowered into a towered airfield, greatly increasing landing fees and disallowing free aircraft operations (you're now effectively forced into the same procedures as are in place on an international airport, and that on a GA field, including having to file flightplans for clearance even for GA flights, requesting permission for engine start, etc. etc.). Result is most GA operations moved out, or just closed down.
This is the only channel in which I look forward to the weekly video drop. It's also cool to see the safety precautions you're taking. Great job Rebuild Rescue!
Haters gonna hate, you are doing a great job not only with the future vision but also inspiring many people to get into aviation and the safety of it. Don't worry even though people may have a bad impression about the FAA, they are good people who share the love of aviation and safety too.
