Will The Cheapest Twin Engine Airplane Make it Home?

We bought this twin engine Grumman Cougar GA-7 off of Ebay after it was crashed. We fixed it up to fly it home, but will it make it the 500 miles home? This was a huge project and we got it done in eight days, which is longer than we thought it would take. We definitely far surpassed our budget, but can we still make a profit off of it? Find out in this episode of Rebuild Rescue!

The lessons I have learned from your channel are more about gratitude, team work, cooperation, redemption of men and machine, unity in purpose, encouragement, and valuing others. I am deathly scared of flying but do it anyway. Watching your channel brings out the best in everyone you encounter. You are providing a rally point in a stressed out and selfish world. Thanks for rescuing more then planes.....your rescuing people.....even those that just watch the channel.😂

@@rebuildrescue If you only knew how this channel affected my life. I had to leave medicine because I chose not to take the jab. Then hell unleashed it's fury and over the next several months, we totaled our truck, I fell and broke several ribs, got covid, got a blood clot in my lungs taking out 60 percent of my right lung capacity, had a heart episode in which I should have died. Through it all God saw me through. It has taken two years to recover. Your channel help to restore faith in people, dream dreams and go for it with an all out abandonment and the lessons I mentioned above. I have been humbled and tested by the fire. Watching you push through that horrific injury got my ass out of the chair and rehabbing. Thanks for sharing your life with us.

Agreed, I rebuild & refurbish appliances for a living and sell them for a quarter to half of what they were new and try to keep the older ones in the market as long as possible since all these new appliances since the 2015’s are straight throw away garbage now. Sad world we live in, it’s corporate greed period.

I can only imagine the thrill you and your team had experienced when you saw her taking off the runway for the first time in 2 years; spacially with all the hard work and long nights behind it. Guys like you are an inspiration for jounger generations to follow: REPAIR, NOT REPLACE; RECICLE, NOT JUST BUY NEW. Put some heart into your life, not only money. Honestly we need more Rebuild Rescues out here in the world, because every plane you guys save from the parts bin is another GA plane out there flying. The size of the GA fleet has a direct impact on prices, and thus on how many people can access GA. I want everyone who ever had the dream to fly out there able to fly. Its incredible how you guys took a plane with a prop strike back to flying on that budget and within that time period.

Wow that's awesome. Totally thought you were going to come out underwater on this rescue but selling the cougar in FL really saved your bacon. Plus that saves you from having to figure out how to take care of that one, too, and likely will provide parts to keep other cougars in the sky. Good work here. Also I didn't comment on the last video where Joe got his teeth but I'm still kind of stunned by that kind of generosity. Just don't see that every day and shows you aren't just talking about doing good things for people but that you actually mean it. God bless and thanks for your great channel!

Hey Jason I know you will see this and I think it's great that you are helping rescue other planes. That being said I am not invested in the other vehicles you are restoring the way I am on the 401. This might sound funny but it gives me the feeling you would get when seeing a buddy cheat on his wife when I see you work on other planes lol You built this channel from the ground up with the 401 vids popularity. Rather than focus your time and energy on these other planes I'd much rather hear any and all updates on the 401 even if the videos about it are about the smallest updates I still would rather see those. And after the 401 is finally up and running then I think it would be appropriate to start seeing other people aka fixing other planes lol Just my two cents. Keep up the great work!

When I passed over I came from the opposite end so they didn't know I was coming. My mate said it was the best thing ever to see them s#t their pants as I was only 100 ft over the shed and they only knew as I was over them. Determining when a sun will touch the horizon is to extend your hand and count the amount of fingers between the horizon and the bottom of the sun. Each finger is equal to 15 minutes. Looking at the sunset with the amount of time you needed, I knew you were out of time. BTW, a girl scout taught this old Eagle Scout that trick. One of the best dates I ever had in college.

Owned a ‘78 Cougar for 5 years. Best light twin then and now. Cost less to operate and maintain than the Light Sport I own now. It’s still going strong at the same airport on Long Island I had it at. Grumman/Gulfstream built them right. Too bad Socata did nothing after purchasing the type certificate, although they put 180’s in their prototype. The Cougar has great ramp presence also. Good Luck with your’s.

The 1968 Firebird has so many more positives vs. the 1967. I know you like the 1969...while considered part of the "1st generation", it could be in a league of it's own. I just don't like how long the 69 is, but I love that color! That would be a sick color on a plane ;)

I’m so sorry this happened, and I have been a huge fan of the 401 project since the beginning, but the videos on this aircraft leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Everything about this rebuild video was in a “Flip This House”, maximize profit style for a previously crash damaged aircraft. They literally said their goal was minimum cost to get the plane in the air as fast as possible. The cause of the crash could have been completely unrelated to the prior state of the aircraft or anything they did in the rebuild, but I just hope this and other channels taking cheap, poorly maintained aircraft and putting out videos for entertainment take a step back and consider what they’re actually doing for the sake of entertainment. Flying is dangerous, and it’s not like if the engine goes out on an Austin Healy from a bad valve job, anyone is going to lose their life. I hate to say it but it seemed like these guys have been just winging it with some of the maintenance actions and the large number of different projects they have been taking on, and someone may have unfortunately paid the ultimate price for it.

Nice job Team Rebuild Rescue! So good to watch it take off and those low fly overs were simply awesome! #Jason, what thrill it must've been for you piloting you first twin. I haven't purchased any merchandise from you website but I did support your sponsors Kove Audio and True Classic. You were right as their T-Shirts are the most comfortable I've ever experienced and love my Kove Bluetooth speakers. I'd would absolutely be thrilled to win the Mustang so I hope supporting your sponsors somehow qualifies me for the Mustang drawing. Again, congrats on getting the Cougar flying once again.

I am going to Oshkosh this year for the first time. Looking forward to seeing the 401. I used to fly a 401 in the 70’s. Probably logged over 2000/hours on the 401 and 421.
