I once owned a 1966 F100 2wd with 4 speed manual Transmission (granny Gear) and a 352 V8. I had broke down,waiting for my dad to bring me a codensor. While waiting for a part a guy asked me to assist and getting his truck out stuck in mud. The truck similar to mine. I did help. He was way back in a lot, with all four in the ground to the frame. I drove through mud to the truck, tied it down. No spinning, just granny gear and dragged it to the road. He lost his exhaust but he had his truck back. I realize many trucks can do this, but satisfying when your truck is the rescuer. After 10 years sold it to restore my dad's 68 ( in 1988) and I still drive it . Not shinny anymore, but still runs great

My first car was a 66 Ford 150 with a 240 6 3 speed I put a 70 351win drove it for about 20 years sold it after it had at least 400,000 I was just tired of it after so many years it could be still going IDK

@@damlynch1535 I still love my 68 F100 I replaced it with. It had a 360 but now a 390 V8 and a c6 transmission. Trans rebuilt once. This is all like original except the block was changed to 390 on last rebuild in 2000. Overall over 500,000 miles. Runs great but looks like a used truck. I like it that way, as do not have to worry if I scratch it.

@@passqualecaiazza7728 I recently paid 1,000 for a 70 or 71 f250 highboy 390 granny flat bed my fave was my 88 f150 4wd stepside 300 6 granny with really wide 33's it was amazing where that little red Ford would go

I lived out behind GM proving grounds in East Mesa AZ in the early 1970s, and my Dad drove a brand new 1970 Ford F-100. Seems we had a down pour and the rain in front of GMs offices was 30 inches deep. My Dad came upon a Test car (1973) and he very politely Pushed the Not yet Released Chevy out of the water....The test driver Thanked him very much and then asked him to just GO AWAY.....I still laugh about it today......ha ha ha I on the other hand have owned two 1938 ford coupes, a 1940 Mercury convertible and now a 1947 Lincoln Convertible. I was a DIEHARD Chevy fan.

it baffles the shit out of me why they still put open differentials in so many 4WD trucks. I guess it shouldn't, the answer is simple. it costs less and they make more $$$ since most people buying their shiny new 4x4 is still really getting a 4x2. you can get by with the rear wheels locked together, but the front really needs to be something you can engage, like the new electronic diffs, or even the old ARB air lockers would work. but it adds more moving parts that can break.

Bruce Springsteen. Mine do. It's called "Detroit Locker" for a reason. My 78 and '97 both have them. Both also have limited slip front differentials as well.

Wrong. A "4x4" with open differentials is actually 2 wheel drive. Count how many wheels you see spinning at any given time on that Ford.

- Phantomz - One is; the back left. With the way open differentials are designed, only one tire spins. This is what allows the outside tire rotate faster than the inside when you to turn a corner.

I dont think you understand how 4x4 works. When all four wheels spin you risk damage to drivetrain and steering components unless you have locking differentials. Therefore 4 wheel drive vehicles tend to mostly spin one front and one rear while traction control switches back and forth to the wheels with traction.

I worked for Mike Tillman at his Chevy dealership welded many newer Chevy frames they crack all around the front suspension lol never seen a Ford frame crack. my work truck is a Chevy and I must say it halls ass there is f good in them all as long as its American made I dont care
