F1 Engine Modes EXPLAINED!
Спорт
This weekend we say goodbye to 'Party Mode' forever... 👋 Ahead of the introduction of the new Technical Directive restricting engine modes, we asked Hywel - Managing Director at HPP - to explain just how they work and how the new ruling might effect performance up and down the grid! 🧠

very simple and clear explanation, very well appreciated Mercedes :)
I'd love to see some deeper info on the ERS side. I know that batteries can handle quite a lot of amps while discharging, but must be charged relatively slowly. I'm assuming the packs are extremely high voltage to lower the amperage but it still must be something crazy, considering the harvesting is really only at the end of straights and under braking. Im sure you could use some real-world equivalents to allow people to understand the sort of power we're talking about (eg, the energy recovered under braking into turn 1 at monza is enough to power a typical home for xyz hour/days)

They're also using the hot air for recharge before it leaves the exhaust. Called MGU-H. It works simplified as a steam engine.
@rickhearn5899
3 жыл бұрын
I Don’t know if anybody uses ultracapacitors to buffer the peak charge / discharge rates of the battery pack, but it is done in other applications. Ultra caps can’t match the energy density of batteries, but they have much higher power density.
@jsquared1013
3 жыл бұрын
@@Max_von_Mustermann_ll it's not quite like a steam engine, it's more analogous to an alternator wrapped around the turbo's shaft. The hot exhaust exiting the engine is what drives the turbine side of the turbocharger, and the MGU-H captures some of that energy via the work of the spinning shaft (also the resistance of the MGU-H helps slow the turbo, reducing the workload of the wastegate(s) to control the boost pressure, if I'm not mistaken). Then it works in the opposite direction after the driver has gone off-throttle back to on-throttle, to help spool the turbo a bit faster.
@Max_von_Mustermann_ll

Another fantastic video thankyou HPP. Please can you explain how you get all the race car data from around the track to the office in Brackley in real-time?
Thanks for another video that reads the public mood perfectly and steps in to answer questions on most of our minds. Given how much more effective the _Merc_ "Party Mode" is compared to the opposition, I reckon its discontinuation will result in three key effects: *1.* Slight convergence in qualy *2.* Greater advantage for _Merc_ in races *3.* Greater engine lifetime across the board. It will also be interesting to see how _Hywel Thomas_ fares filling the big shoes left by _Andy Cowell_ and whether the latter joins _Ferrari_ for 2022 and beyond...
Video idea: How do you manage tires for a GP event? Going from why selecting a certain type of tires, when to use them according to their type throughout the event, how to keep track of them per driver according to their usage, if there is an inspection done by the team or the manufacturer etc... Really interesting videos ! How do you manage to charge the battery between qualifications laps ? How long does it takes to charge from 0% to 100% the battery on an F1 cars ?
Are you able to charge the battery in the garage or does the driver have to charge it on the out lap and in lap?
you guys are the best f1 team ever no one explains what all these techincal things are you guys are absolute legends
From this explanation I see our engines becoming even more mighty and reliability improving even greater we already qualify without turning the party up I can't wait for the race where the engine screams all weekend
A video on das and how it helps with heating the tires. Also one on the various telemetry data shown live to the engineers during the race would be a cool insight!
Mercedes has definitely made the sport more enjoyable and understandable . No other F1 teams reaches out to the fans like this. God bless silver arrows
Other teams: "DON'T LOOK AT OUR STUFF THEY'RE CONFIDENTIAL" Mercedes: Here's our engine modes.
I would like to know about the suspension systems, the ride height during the race,
What I am really interested in is the Hybrid management. Is the ERS Deploying all the time? Or just at certain rev ranges? Do you guys reach 100% in every lap and how do you decide when to deploy how much?
Love these videos. They are very informative. Quick question...Aren't you guys afraid of competitors watching these and copying your work?
can you explain what the different flags indicate in the race??
A video about tyre management would be great, especially if explained by one of the drivers! It would really help appreciate the effort and skill required during the stints when they aren't pushing as hard as possible, something that often goes unnoticed/unappreciated.
Great video on engine modes. Just a follow question...is there such a thing as "engine preservation" mode that you may want to use during warm down or at any point in a race if the engine reaches critical...and, if yes, is this preservation mode also now banned?
RP: add to my Cart
Nice transparent explanation-maybe other teams could learn from it. And no need to circumvent sensors or fuel flow regs to party ;)
It'll be great if you show how aerodynamics are set. Cool video btw, I'm huge fan
I would like to know how the pit crew get prepared and what is need to be done while changing the tyre. I mean to change the tyre in less than 2 secs really need thousands of training tho but their job seem get less acknowledgement
Please explain shocks e.g. is high shock velocity track dependent and low shock velocity more driver dependent?
You guys are so nice making these instructional videos for Ferrari! Should give a video on strategy or maybe organization tips in F1 🤣
can you explain the strategy of pitstop and tyres exchanges?
I am a die-hard Ferrari fan and have always been so. However, I really respect the focus and relentless pursuit of perfection that Mercedes as a team have displayed in F1. I have watched every single video in this channel, and quite reluctantly I agree to have developed a certain liking for them. Kudos to the people at Mercedes.
